This is an initial review, can't comment on durability/longevity as I've only had the unit 24 hours. I'll update it if problems crop up. Functionally so far, it's excellent. Very nice and bright screen, snappy response. Of particular note: GPS. Several people here have asked if it has a GPS chip, and the answers given were not confidence inspiring. Like many perhaps, one of my primary uses of this device is for navigation - specifically, offline navigation with downloaded maps. An embedded GPS chip is mandatory for this - estimated locations via wifi are useless for this task. Further, Samsung's web site doesn't mention anything about GPS for this model. Many of their models do have it, and that capability is listed in their tech specs. Other reviews elsewhere indicate it does, so...I rolled the dice and ordered it. The good news is, it absolutely has a GPS chip. I'm using this device with Osmand+ (awesome app), which uses offline maps. I get a very fast, solid and accurate GPS lock with this device - and I'm 100% certain it's not estimating location via wifi, as it works with wifi turned off. Even way out in the boonies, it's providing spot-on accuracy on moving maps as well as recording extremely accurate GPX tracks. If you're looking for a backwoods navigation device, you'll be hard pressed to find something better at this price point. ... show more

This is my second Samsung Tablet and, like the first one, it is everything I need in a tablet. The colors are brilliant, the processor is fast, the storage at 32 GB interior expandable to 256 GB is more than adequate. The speakers are good for a small and relatively inexpensive tablet. For browsing and streaming, it's a gem. I'm not into video games so I can't comment on that. I do a lot of work on the tablet using Microsoft Office and a Bluetooth keyboard. It works fine. I store my work in the Cloud and it is there when I return to my PC. For an under $200 tablet, this is everything I expected. It's a Samsung! Enough said. ... show more

    • Good for media but not much else
The Galaxy Tab A is a great entry level tablet that's great for light web browsing and media use without breaking the bank. The 8" size is, in my opinion the perfect size for a media tablet. It's light and easy to hold in one though it will be tough to use in one hand. This tablet has a solid build quality but despite the aluminum back it still has a light somewhat cheap feel. This tablet is definitely NOT a powerhouse. As I said at the beginning it's great for web browsing and watching movies but don't plan on playing games beyond your basic solitare, cut the rooe, etc. I did have pretty good performance on Asphalt 8 (a pretty good looking racing game) which leads me to believe some higher end games may not work well mainly due to poor optimization. Once again though this tablet is also not equipped with a very high end card. My biggest problem with this tablet is it's price point. While $200 dollars (price at time of purchase) is not a huge amount when it comes to tablets, I would recommend waiting till it goes on sale or the price drops somewhere closer to $150. I personally just dont think it's $200 worth of material. Aside from that I recommend this tablet to anyone wanting a media tablet to take on trips and such when you don't want to lug a computer around. ... show more

    • Great Tablet for the Money - 32GB internal storage should be the norm for Android
Great tablet, I wish this unit came with a higher resolution screen. This was purchased to replace a 3 year old Samsung TAB S 8.4 that had some screen issues. This unit is much snappier and has 32GB of internal storage. We also put in a micro-SD with 128GB of storage. The unit is fast and the screen is great. Same exact unit, higher resolution screen would be the only obvious improvement. I knew that when I purchased the unit, so there was no disappointment. After several months, units performance has been solid, and battery life is much improved over the TAB S that is replaced. ... show more

    • Versatile with room for improvement
received the product on time and it works as expected. No issues with connection to the internet or wifi or slow moving or anything. Most of the apps I use on my phone are also compatible with the tablet. As well as one app that was no longer compatible with my phone works with my tablet. What I don't like which is why I rate versatility at 4 stars is that it does not seem to have a vibrate option for the notifications sound. I use it at night a lot and want to still be aware of the notification but it's a really minor issue. On the tablet it has the show all apps button and the back button on either side of the home button but it is difficult to know where exactly these buttons are in the dark. There should be a backlight highlighting those tap screen buttons. Also, while the tablet is compatible with screen view for screen mirroring on Samsung TV and roku, it is only compatible through the screen share on the device so if you have an mhl cord you want to mirror through it won't work. ... show more

I love this tablet. The resolution is a lot better than I thought. I mean it looks fantastic. I'm so glad I got this one. 32gb storage 2gb ram 7.1 Nougat Type C charging. For this price? I did a lot of research before choosing this one and it is the best deal I found. Plus; it's a Samsung. I do love it and would recommend it to all my family and friends. After a year of use; I dropped it from a small coffee table and the glass cracked. Ouch! That really hurt. Plus it had a cover on it. If you buy this tablet be very care. I don't think this is Gorilla glass. I mean the table is 2 feet high. I have dropped my HTC U11 6/7 times from higher places and not one scratch. Just want to be honest about this tablet but; everything else is like I mentioned above. I still recommend this tablet 100%. ... show more
