  • An in Depth Comparison with the Original Galaxy Buds (Spoiler, these are much better)
I bought the first pair of Galaxy Buds and used them almost every day for a little over a year before buying these because I lost the original ones (rip). I also own some nicer quality custom molded in-ear stage monitors (Shure SE-315 w/ Sensaphonic custom molded sleeves). I currently am using them on a Samsung S8. Sound Quality: There is a moderately noticeable upgrade in sound quality over the original Galaxy Buds thanks to the dual drivers. Everything I've listened to so far has been clear As someone who likes to listen for each individual instrument part on songs, these do the job. Be warned: this does NOT mean that the sound quality will blow you out of the water if you are used to high-end products. The buds+'s sound quality has nothing on my custom molded in-ears. You are not gonna get the same performance out of the buds+ than a product that is much more expensive from a company that is dedicated all their resources into audio products. The sound is great overall, and more than enough for daily use, but not stellar for audiophiles. Also, a quick note about call quality. I have never had people complain about the mic quality on either the buds or the buds+, so it's not something I've felt the need to extensively test. It's good enough for people to hear and understand you, though I don't know how good. Fit/Sound Isolation: The buds+ fit my ears pretty much the same as the old buds did. I use the larger tips and no wings. I can't tell a noticeable difference in the size between generations, so if you have worn the original buds before, expect an almost identical fit. I have worn the buds+ for hours at a time, and they have never felt uncomfortable. The fit of these earbuds is excellent at blocking out sound. If you have used earbuds with a similar in-ear style, you can expect the same sealed-off sense of sound isolation. With ambient noise turned off, these provide a great sound isolation experience, even without active noise cancellation. Ambient Sound: If you've used the original buds at all, you know how tinny and frankly, disappointing, the ambient noise mode was. My two main problems with the ambient noise on the original buds were A) the voice quality sometimes made it hard to understand people when they talked, and B) literally any wind would make it through the buds and it would be pretty much unbearable to have ambient mode on while outdoors. The buds+ have completely fixed these problems to an extent I didn't think was possible! I went on a 3 hour hike in the mountains with my family, and the whole time I had the ambient noise mode on. I could clearly hear and understand my family talk to me even when they were over 10 feet away. When walking through the woods, I could literally hear birds chirping in the distance and leaves rustling. And the absolute best part: the wind problem is completely gone!! I almost never heard any white noise due to the wind blowing across the mics, and when it did happen it was so low that I barely noticed. Absolutely the biggest upgrade between the buds and the buds+. Battery Life/Charging: The battery life on these buds is excellent. I am someone who honestly didn't have a problem with the 6 + 7 hour battery life on the original buds, as I would use them for maybe 4 or 5 hours at a time, and charge the case every one or two days. With these, I've owned them for around 4 days now and I've had to charge them twice, although that's because I've worn them pretty much non-stop since I got them, even while falling asleep. It's easy to see that if I fall into the 4 to 5 hours of use habit again, I could easily go 3 or 4 days without needing to charge. The charging of the buds is nice and fast from the case. I use a wireless charging pad for the case, and it takes noticeably longer to charge than the old version, although that is to be expected as it's packing a battery that holds twice the playtime. Physical Construction: The buds are pretty much the same as far as physicality goes, so this one will focus on the cases. Right off the bat, the biggest thing I notices is that the hinge on the buds+ is a major upgrade. The original case had a hinge that didn't have much tension while in motion. In fact, the hinge on my unit even had the tiniest bit of wiggle back and forth. Not enough to have me concerned about it breaking, but enough to be annoyed that I had paid $130 for a product with this cheap feeling hinge. The new case's hinge is much more sturdy, and there is a much more satisfying tension all throughout the hinge's arc. It does not wiggle at all. So, overall, a good upgrade. Should You Buy? So, should you buy these or upgrade from the original buds? If this is your first delve into the true wireless world, these are an excellent buy. Especially at the cheaper price, the international version is indistinguishable from the US version and I had no problems pairing or using them. Well worth the price for the first time buyer. How about upgrading, though? I think it depends on what you use the buds for. By far the biggest difference between the originals and these is the quality of the ambient noise feature. If you own the original buds and constantly find yourself annoyed that you can't really use the ambient noise feature because, well, it sucks... I would consider the upgrade. If you are someone that almost never uses, or never wants to use, the ambient noise feature, then all you're really getting is a good upgrade in battery (which is almost unnoticeable if you're good about charging your buds and case regularly) and a modest one in sound quality. ... show more

  • Battery life not as advertised, but great earbuds.
The case battery drains pretty fast. I tracked the battery percentage in each earbud and the case from all starting at 100% until they were all 0%. Just normal use: some uses at only 15min, some for 2+ hrs, about a 50/50 mix of phone calls & music. Some of the time I used only one earbud. I got a total of 12hr 48min of listening time on each earbud before everything was fully dead. According to the description, this number should have been between 15-22hr. Still not too bad, there's no way I would need to use the earbuds long enough to drain them from 100% to 0%. It took me 2.5 days of slightly above average use with no charging to fully drain everything. The Ambient Sound pass through technology takes a little while to get used to, but I still really like it. The earbuds are comfortable and secure. I was doing chores, cleaning, & woodworking/heavy lifting with these earbuds on and I only have to adjust them occasionally, but they never fell out. Sometimes I'd go to push them into the ear and forget that they're touch sensitive which can be annoying, but ultimately just something I have to work around. Sound is great, they connect quickly, phone call come through clearly and the people on the other end say I sound great. ... show more

  • lacking features that I want
Comfort: As I would say for all in-ear style earbuds, if you can stand to have the earbuds in your ear canals for long listening, then they will offer you the best sound quality that the earbuds can offer you. But for me, since I apparently have sensitive ear canals (as I'm finding out now) having any in-ear style earbud in my ears for more than about an hour is too much and therefore, not comfortable enough for me to use and keep. With that said, I think the form factor was actually pretty good. They stay solidly in my ear without loosening much. They have a fairly low profile compared to many others that are very large and bulky (not including those with ANC since by nature, they're going to be bulky). Noise Isolation (since there is no ANC): pretty good from the few I've tried so far. These are able to fit reasonably deep into my ear and block out a significant amount of sound. But of course, as stated earlier, that also means that they are fairly uncomfortable to my ears. Sound quality: surprisingly not that great. Well, here's the problem, I needed to change the sound setting to "dynamic" on the Samsung app and even then, it was simply too quiet. I could jack up the volume and it was still just okay on the volume. There was no more head room for louder if I wanted it or if the source was quiet to start with. Overall, I wasn't going to keep this because of the in-ear style (only the second pair I've tried and decided that it's not the style for me). But if I was an in-ear tolerant person, I still wouldn't keep these, the sound left much to be desired. Still looking! ... show more

  • IF YOU HAVE DEAD BUD PLS READ!!!!
Getting these to actually work is a PAIN! FOR EVERYONE HAVING ISSUES WITH GETING HEADPHONES TO WORK READ HERE!!!! when I got my buds they said they were fully charge, green light came on and everything, but would not turn on, would not pair, nothing, dead, THIS WAS NOT TRUE! In order to get your headphones to work properly (if you have start up issues) plug in your headphones to a SAFE charger. Lift each ear bud in and out of charging case (separately) after it turns green a few seconds later. After the 7th or 8th time taking them in and out, (not pulling them out until AFTER the light goes green) the light will eventually stay red. This means that they will ACTUALLY CHARGE!! DO NOT RETURN YOU CAN FIX THEM YOURSELF!!! After they charge for about 10 mins they will pair. For some reason they say they are charged and they are not. The only way to fix that is the hack above. Some people have only 1 dead headphone, I had 2 dead headphones, but it really works!!! ... show more
