I bought this dishwasher at a big box store, the salesman couldn't say enough great things about this dishwasher...which means he's never used one. First the positives. The thing is quiet. Super quiet and what isn't there to love about quiet? Does it do an adequate job of cleaning? Meh. Drying? Very good. It's got some problems. 1) My dinner plates are a standard plate size (10.5 inches) and if I lower the second rack so I have more second rack space the swing arm hanging off the rack knocks into the top of the plates and won't spin. Doesn't spin, so the second rack doesn't clean properly. 2) Can't clean bowls on the bottom rack. After an unscientific look into what the problem is, I'm fairly sure it's because the lower swing arm moves back and forth instead of spinning. So if you put bowls on the second rack, that has a typical swingarm that rotates, they get clean, but on the bottom rack they will not get clean. In fact it leaves like a weird residue in them, and then I have to take them out and hand wash them. By the way that bottom arm that travels front and back isn't actually spraying water. There are jets located at the back wall of the dishwasher and those jets spray water into that arm, which acts as sort of a ramp and shoots the water upwards. I think (and this is a big guess) that because of that tech, anything that isn't a flat surface will not get clean and will actually shoot any junk up into the bowls. So if you want to pre-wash your bowls...then this is your dishwasher. If you want your dishwasher to do what it's supposed to do...keep searching. 3) The third rack is designed poorly. This is gonna be a challenge to describe, but because the rows that separate the utensils are at the close end instead of the far end you can not load knives next to forks and spoons (the knife handle is wider than a fork handle, and the rows are too narrow). So the easy solution is to load them on the opposite side of the rack...but wait, if you do that and you want to lower the middle part of the rack to hold, for instance, a large serving spoon, then the knives will slide back and won't stay in their place. Super annoying and is just a bad design. 4) The app is a joke, at least on an iPhone. Sort of works, but is buggy. Definitely not ready for prime time. 5) The buttons you push to choose your cycle and to power and start don't have a tactile response. Again, this sounds minor, but if the button actually pushed in, you would be able to tell you've done something. Would I recommend this dishwasher as a buy? Nope.

I couldn’t find many reviews, so I thought I would help future buyers avoid my mistake. I know Samsung has a bad reliability rating among consumers with regards to their appliances. But I have had Samsung washers, dryers and refrigerators for over 10 years without major problems and I like the looks and technology. Saw they started making dishwashers a few years ago and when I needed a replacement I debated between this Samsung and the popular Kitchen Aid with the third rack and low decibels that I had owned a couple years before in a previous home. Went to multiple places and saw it in person. Choose a local appliance center that also services their appliances in case we had any future problems. Although they stocked the Samsung, they said almost everyone bought the Kitchen Aid or one of the other brands. So although Samsung didn’t have many reviews, it didn’t have bad reviews. But their was no in depth reviews on how the Samsung features work. I really wanted a low DB dishwasher and one that popped open automatically after the cycle was finished to finish drying. I’ve heard to bring your own dishes to test what the dishwasher truly holds before purchasing. Should have listened to that advise and if you are insisting on the Samsung, you must do this before you buy! I noticed in the showroom that the third rack was able to rise slightly. Second rack where you put your glasses had 2 rows of times that you could angle and adjust the width of the rows depending on the type of glass, such as wine, mugs, or standard glassware. Thought this would be adequate, it is not. The rows are so narrow it’s hard to get my small glasses in. I don’t have oversized cups so I didn’t think I would have a problem. The angle just creates more problem, because it gets in the way of the cups, not accommodate the cups. So it takes a lot of time to squeeze glassware in if I want to use the full 5 rows. Otherwise it’s only 3 rows and your cups with scoot around at weird angles because it’s too big. For those with large cups, forget it. The biggest problem with this dishwasher is the actual usable capacity size. It seems smaller than my old Kitchen Aid and it was definitely smaller than even the builder grade GE dishwasher that I replaced. I would take either of those before this Samsung. I normally don’t like the cheap dishwashers, but I should have saved the money or gone with a different brand. Especially since this Samsung is easily over $1,000 installed. The Samsung would be okay capacity wise for a bachelor or two person household. But for a family of four be prepared to do more loads. I dread when another family visits for a week. Having to wait hours with a sink full of dirty dishes between loads because this washer will not hold enough. One of the features that I was most excited about and the main reason we choose this Samsung, since few had this option, is the self opening door at the end of the cycle. This has been the biggest let down. It opens fine and a quiet fan runs for about 10 mins after the door opens, which is great. The main problem is the door opens so quickly after the load is done, the dishes don’t get much of a chance to completely dry. I wish there was a way to adjust this setting. It seems like it only dries with the door close for 10 mins after the cycle is finished. It should probably be for half an hour. So unless my dishes are going to air dry for a long time, I still have the old problem of having to shake off the water from upside down bowls and plastics, that are wetter in this dishwasher than others that allow more dry time. We have granite counters so I wasn’t afraid of warping. But if you have laminate, I’ve heard the self opening ones are not good, because of the excess moisture. The pros of this machine are it’s extremely quiet. I have a great room with tile floor, so I wanted a quiet dishwasher. It’s hard to determine if this is on, its so quiet. It’s slightly quieter than the Kitchen Aid, but the Kitchen Aid was extremely quiet that neither one should bother you. It doesn’t have a large handle sticking out like the Kitchen Aid. Although that handle looked like it would make a nice towel rack, the towel would fall and/or hit the floor every time you opened the door. One thing that may be a feature or a drawback, depending on your preference is the large electronic numbers displayed in the front of the machine when it’s running. It tells the time left on the cycle. No way to turn it off. It stays lit the entire time it’s running. So far it runs the way it is designed. It has popped open smoothly and the fan runs quietly. I just wished the designers could have done a better job. It’s like they looked at all the features a dishwasher could have and wanted to include them, but didn’t consider if the features were functional in a real household setting. Unfortunately, this dishwasher is a no buy.

We bought it from a different retailer. We love it. Third rack is awesome, as free up space on the bottom rack for more pots and pans. The main design flaw is a that the edge of each rack hits the stainless steel door and make a dent in the inner surface if they are not fully pushed in. In a house with 2 small kids, it was obvious that they would slam the door with racks half way open eventually. See pictures for dents in the stainless steel inner surface. So, I MacGyver a solution using the furniture safe edge cushions used to babyproof the house. They don't look pretty and wife is not so happy l but at least the rack edges will not further damage the inner surface of the door. Then cushion is resisting well to multiple washing cycles. If they start to break, it is easy to put a new one in place.
