  • Surpassed all expectations
Size: 28" Style: Arm
As someone who bought a super cheap mic arm from Amazon a few years ago, I was in dire need of an upgrade especially since it literally broke in half. This mic arm was my first choice for several reasons including size, looks, and name attached. Samson is a very respectable brand in the audio space and their quality extends to this arm. This arm feels EXTREMELY well-made and practically everything is metal or super thick plastic, nothing about this arm would let you know that it is only 35 dollars. This arm comes with 2 mounting options, one is a permanent mouse which involves drilling a hole in the desk, and mounting with 3 included screws. I opted for the second mounting option which is a super high-quality C clamp that is ridiculously nice. The C part of the clamp is made of metal and feels very nice, the actually screw that is used to clamp down is thick with a very nice soft rubber/plastic end that will make sure not to damage your desk. The part that touches the top of your desk has a large surface area and soft bottom which ensures that your desk won't be damaged. Out of the box, the arm is VERY STIFF, which is a complaint that many people have, but you can actually adjust this by unscrewing the 3 joints of the arm, under the cover plates you will see 2-3 screws at each joint, you can loosen these and it will make the arm much easier to use. Also, these screws may be very tight, I had to use pliers to get enough leverage to unscrew them so just be aware of this. When you get the arm adjusted just how you like though it is a dream to use and feels like an arm that costs 2-3 times its actual price. I very highly recommend this arm. ... show more

  • Others Had Better Watch Out!!
Size: 38" Style: Arm
DISCLAIMER: I am a verified purchaser of this product, and I have in no way been compensated, or received any benefit from Amazon, the manufacturer or any other party for the review I have written. A Word of Caution: Be very careful when you are reading posted reviews. I have found that some people are mistakenly reviewing products other than the one featured. This can be very confusing when you are trying to decide on a product. When reading, if you find that the details they are describing in their review don't seem to make sense, or match up with the product you are researching, it could be that they are actually reviewing the wrong product, and YOU could potentially miss out on a great one. Now, with that out of the way . . . THIS THING IS GREAT!! The first thing I noticed when I first picked up the box was how heavy it was. Once I opened the box, I could understand why. This is no flimsy, cheap aluminum microphone boom! It has heft, girth and feels solid. You don't at all have to worry that it'll come apart in your hands under normal usage. In fact, you'll probably break your desk before you break this boom (more on that later). It is taller and longer than most other booms in the same price range, thus giving you countless positioning options. I love the fact that all of the mechanical components of this unit (springs, bolts, etc.) are hidden from view. It gives the boom a very sleek, if not elegant look. You can even route the mic cord through the inside of the frame if the point of connection is small enough on at least one end of the cable. I could not do this because my microphone's USB-A plug was too large, and the USB-C end has a cable interference resistor attached. I zip-tied the cable neatly along the framework, and (IMHO) it is hardly noticeable). Either way, you could expect to pay much more for this kind of styling and functionality. Others have commented on the fact that the boom tension is very tight. To that, I will say: "THE BOOM TENSION IS VERY TIGHT!!" You will work your biceps nicely to reposition it. I first tried loosening the hex screw at each joint position, but this had no effect. I then took a chance and applied a touch of WD-40 to the spring positions (see photos), and then worked it out a bit. After a couple of flexes, it began to loosen up to the point I was not fearful of damaging my desk in the process. AUTHOR DISCLAIMER/WARNING: DO NOT OVER-LUBRICATE!! If you do, it'll just automatically straighten out and stand erect, and it'll be impossible to keep the upper arm in any fixed position. You may also potentially void any warranty. The manufacturer-provided clamp is hefty and sturdy. But, this also made it a bit too bulky for my taste. I chose to use the screw-mount option also provided by the manufacturer. If you choose to mount directly to the top of a desk or counter, I would not recommend screw-mounting to anything other than a solid surface (at least 1.5" thick) using the 1" screws provided. A previous reviewer also stated that they'd ruined their IKEA desk top as a result of the tight tension of boom arm. Fortunately, I'd read this before I bought it since my desk is also from IKEA. Personally, I found the overall footprint of the mounting base (2.25" diameter) to be a bit small given the size of the boom arm itself. Considering the height, weight and the aforementioned tension of the entire assembly, I replaced the three 1" screws provided with three #10 machine screws with matching nut and 1.25" dia. washer. So far, it is holding up VERY well. Although, I did still find myself grasping the base with one hand whenever I moved the boom forward or backward horizontally, ESPECIALLY until the boom tension had eased a bit. It would be cool if the manufacturer supplied a screw/nut/washer set (or pre-drilled 3-holed underside plate) to give you one more way to firmly secure the base. All in all, the Samson MBA38 rivals anything out there. For the price, you can't go wrong. I'm glad I took a chance on the underdog. This dog CAN hunt!! PROS: - Professional quality at a budget price - Solid construction - Sleek and aesthetically pleasing design - Easy to install - Multiple installation options - Great range of motion CONS: - Boom Arm tension coming from the factory is EXTREMELY tight - Desk clamp is very bulky - A machine screw/nut/washer assembly or underplate would be more secure for desktop mounting ENJOY!! ... show more

  • Much Better than the Cheap One I had Before
Size: 28" Style: Arm
I had the really popular Innogear arm for ~2 & a half years. I had to retighten it all the time. And, for almost a year, I delt with it starting to bend & get really loose. It was a good deal for $14 but it didn't last. This arm feels rediculously sturdy, in comparison. And I haven't had to retighten is even once in the 5 months I've had it. It was a bit expensive, $34 at the time, but I have a feeling it's going to last a lot longer than the last one (& it gives no headaches). ... show more

  • Perfect Size
Size: 18" Style: Arm
This stand works for me because I didn't need a long microphone stand just something that's small and compact. It's compatible with the JLab microphone that I use from Walmart. It is easy to use because all you need to do is unscrew some nobs and make it longer, shorter, or position the stand where you would like. The quality is good in my opinion and I would buy another one if need be. ... show more

  • Stiff and Sturdy
Size: 48" Style: Arm
I bought this to fit my home studio for Livestreaming. 48" was much more than I needed. But I also wasn't excited about the stiff movement and limited range of motion. This product is high quality and garunteed to hold a heavy microphone where you position it without any sagging whatsoever. However what I personally need is quick, versatile, and intuitive repositioning. The 48" Samson offers incredible "reach" but not much vertical repositioning ability. Because of it's stiffness, I wouldn't plan to actively move this arm around during a broadcast, only during set up before one (maybe just to swing it from side to side). Also, though this wasn't a feature that mattered as much to me, I can confirm that the lack of noisy external springs will definitely be a plus for anyone using a mic that picks up those typical pop & spring sounds. ... show more

  • My mistake for no doing enough research
Size: 18" Style: Arm
I bought this needing a short boom arm not wanting a big one but failed to understand just how small 18 inches really was for a boom arm lol. It's not strong enough to carry an MV7 that's for sure but for lighter mics go ahead and get this.
