  • Perfit fit. Ordered the same as my shoe size, but ultra wide and perfect it is.
This is my third pair of Salomons and hope to get the long millage I have from the others. The other two pair wore out at around 1,000 miles of walking each. I have only had these for less than a month so can't comment on that aspect. The fit however is much better. The last two pairs I bought were standard width and I had to go up a half size, from my street shoe size to get the width I needed at the toes. This of course made them a tad to long, leading to a few black and blue toe nails even with a piece of styrofoam placed in front of the toes. I have done 5 hikes with them so far, the longest only being 13 miles and the shortest 5. They held my feet perfectly. No bashing of the toes on the downhill tread or mashing together of the toes. I am very happy with them at this point and am pretty confident they will last as long as the others, because the construction is very similar. If you have wider feet. This model may be just the fit you are looking for. ... show more

  • Great shoes, NO padding. Get inserts for sure. Good toe room for my wides.
Terrible padding. The first 2 days sucked. Feet hurt for 2 days after. Heels were ok but the balls and big toes were in lots of pain. You MUST install your own foot pads or you will regret it. I use Timberland myself. Thinking i should have ordered a 1/2 size bigger for the pads but they will work. They do have good toe room even when tied very tight. Im happy but the foot padding really sucks. Otherwise, I LOVE these shoes. Not an all day shoe or for standing, unless you buy good inserts. Buy them and pads. You will be happy. I have wides. ... show more

  • Great boots for my moderate occasional hiking
I live in a region right at sea level and very flat. However , I occasionally go other places to hike. I also need better stability at times on walking excursions in my region. These boots meet my needs very well. Knowing I had an extended vacation that included a lot of hiking and walking in mountainous territory, I purchased these three months in advance so I could break them in. No need - from the minute I put them on they were flexible, comfortable and I walked three miles day one without any issues. I love the stability they add for my ankles in all kinds of walking or hiking. I’ve been wearing them on my daily walks and other walking activities since I bought them. They performed wonderfully on the mountain hiking I did on my trip. As to sizing, I am a female with big feet and wear 11.5 W shoes if I can find them (which is rare). For years shoe fittings for athletic shoes and boots have resulted in women’s sizes not fitting at all so I have to wear men’s. With this in mind I ordered the men’s 11.5 and they fit me perfectly. No pinching in the toes; just right snugness around and under my heels; no shifting around on my feet while walking but no tight feeling to the width either. The ankle support was excellent as long as I tied them snugly before starting out. A worthwhile buy that meets my needs perfectly. ... show more

  • Runs narrow- not truly waterproof
Let me first state I like the brand, I own a pair of ski boots by Salomon, and have been very satisfied with that purchase. As far as hikers, I have been repeat buying Timberland White ledge boots for 4 pairs, but the last pair wore out quickly and I would get sweaty feet, so I decided to give these boots a try. Things I like: - make my size 14 foot look “smaller” - boot breathes well - decent support, no inserts required. Broke my foot a year or so so always add orange superfeet liners for additional support. This is the only pair of shoes I own that I cannot get the things into without modification. The Salomon liners will come out, but can’t cram the superfeet in there. I put the OEM liners back in and attempted to torque the boot. Got a little bit of bend at the toe box (expected), otherwise nothing. Good enough. - traction seems good Things I don’t like: - boots run narrow. I saw the other reviews and thought, my feet aren’t wide, this won’t be a problem. I wear Nike and ASICS runners which are known to run a bit narrow and they are fine for me. This pair of boots is the first pair of shoes I’ve owned where I wish I’d at least ordered the wide to compare before wearing them out of the house. I’d say they are a “C” width. - my left boot leaked from the get go. My first hike was along a sewer easement during a rainstorm. I didn’t step in any puddles, but got the feeling of moisture, but wrote it off to breathing well and it being 38 degrees outside. It’s happen twice since; investigation revealed a drip leak when sprayed with a hose where the tongue attaches to the boot. I am disappointed to say the least. My old Timberlands would keep me dry standing in an ankle deep creek. These won’t. - tongue is too padded, makes it difficult to tie shoes. Once tied, the laces are appropriate length, but appear too short prior to cinching everything down tight. Minor gripe - probably why they are comfortable. All-in-all, these are okay. I paid about half of list MSRP, and that’s about what they are worth. I’d be disappointed if I paid full retail. We will see how well they last. ... show more
