  • Great Router, works with Makita batteries. Great features.
Model: No Battery
The media could not be loaded. A great, solid router. It has a good low profile height to it, and it handles great for many tasks. It is well-balanced for light routing tasks. Included is a Good solid edge guide made of good thick steel. Locks in position solid with no slop. An addition flush cut trimmer guide is included and it is top quality. It has all the adjustments to match up to any router bit. Dust collection adapter is a treat. With the right vacuum, it does a solid job of collecting the dust as well as any router can. The collet lock was a little stiff at first, and it actually stuck to keep the motor from turning the first time I turned it on. I had to manually wiggle it out of the shaft hole, but after a few bit changes it loosened right up and works just like it should. The router starts up at high speed. I have to push the buttons to slow it down: Push once High Push again, Medium High, Push again, Medium Push again, Slow But, push again, and it jumps back to High, and the cycle starts over once more. I don't like this, as with larger router bits should be started at slow speeds for safety reasons. I'd like it better if this sequenced was reversed, with the router starting out slow at first. This is really about the only small negative thing I can say about this router. The router brushless so it should only need some oil on the bearings once in a while. The rack and pinion height is a quality feature. I can return to the same depth after changing bits. The base is flat and sturdy, and they include a template adapter in the box. I love that it uses Makita batteries. I am already set up with Makita batteries, and they fit perfect in this router. Overall, this is a well-built and designed router. It offers many useful features I find valuable. I highly recommend this router! ... show more

  • Being cordless makes a very handy
Model: No Battery
I've been using the same router for many years and it does a fine job, but it does require me to plug it in. So when I saw this one, I figured I'd give it a try. It runs off a Makita battery. Luckily I had a few laying around and in spite of being battery operated I'm very surprised the power of the motor has. It does a really nice job and holds up to everything. I've put to it so far. I can't say the battery lasts forever, but it does a pretty good job depending on what type you have what you're using, but I always keep a second battery plugged in. Has a nice balanced feel to it and overall I really like this router. My suggestion, though as if you buy it, I would buy the version that comes with the battery just to make your life easier. I'm very happy and satisfied with this router that's going to make my life a easier not having to run extension cords anymore. ... show more

  • Ok besides misleading battery information
Model: No Battery
First off, this router takes 18v Makita batteries. I don’t know why they say in the listing that it accepts “most 18-21v batteries on the market” because it definitely didn’t work with my DEWALT 20v batteries. It also doesn’t list anywhere the compatible battery types for some unknown reason and despite the image of the two batteries in the listing, it definitely doesn’t come with batteries. Once I figured out it took Makita batteries and I was able to try it, I’m pretty happy with it. On the plus side, it has dust collection, it’s pretty compact and easy enough to hold but doesn’t sacrifice power, it routs just fine (obviously depending on the bit you’re using), and is overall easy to use. It’s also cordless and brushless, which is great. And it’s actually pretty quiet for what it is. On the flip side, I hate that the power requires you to press a single button that cycles through speed settings and then round robins. I just want a dial or something that lets me easily keep my speed settings when I turn the router on and off and lets me adjust speed more quickly. The quality of the construction is also on par with what you’d expect at this price point. It’s not a top of the line build by any means, but for the price it’s good. Everything fits together and the hardware threads just fine but things like the dust collector aren’t a 100% perfect tight fit so there’s a bit of give. Overall, it’s a solid little hand router at the price point and I’ll get good use out of it for the small woodworking projects I have like making picture frames. Update: I reached out to SainSmart to ask about the right battery to use and their customer service got back to me almost immediately. They went above and beyond to help me out. Not a lot of brands out there with this level of customer service so I'm bumping this up from 4 stars to 5 stars given the level of service I received. ... show more

  • Very nice portable router kit.
Model: ‎2PCS Batteries
This is my first experience with a battery powered router, and I'm rather pleased. I selected the model that came with batteries, as I didn't want to be bothered with figuring out what batteries work with it and then ordering them if I didn't already have them. It seems other reviewers found this step difficult. Batteries aside, I really like the feel of this router. It's got a nice metal casing that feels heavy and durable. Changing bits is super easy, and it comes with everything you need for basic projects. I'm by no means an expert with wood working so I don't have a huge arsenal of professional routing tools to compare this to. But for an amateur I'm quite satisfied. I have a wired router that I enjoy, but not having to worry about finding a plug is nice when it's called for. It is a tad on the pricey side though. ... show more
