Description

The thrilling fourth installment of author Imogen Keeper's wild ride After the Plague Series. Frankie and Yorke have beaten the post-apocalyptic odds, but the stakes remain high in love and survival. For months, we fought to get out of the city, away from the gun collectors and kidnappers at the White House. And here we are at Thornewood, a historic hot-spring resort nestled in the wild green forests of the Blue Ridge mountains. It’s supposed to be our safe place, but while we may be far from DC, we’re not alone. Between an unfriendly local population, a mysterious stranger who leaves bodies and flowers while we sleep, and the unyielding ghosts of our past, life at Thornewood feels anything but safe.Friendships are forged, enemies made, and death ever- present.I sit on a precipice, my past behind me, the future before me, teetering between love for two very different men. One a memory, the other alive and hurting. Yorke needs me, and I will be strong for him even if it means turning my back on the past, even if it breaks me.One thing is clear: surviving the plague that killed humanity was the easy part. It’s living after the plague that hurts.Frankie and Yorke’s spellbinding journey continues through the chaos of life without law or order, the menacing rise of petty dictators, fomenting clans, the scramble for resources, and a love that proves that sometimes one true love actually can come twice.Safe is the fourth book in the After the Plague series. Don’t miss Broken (Book 1), Lost (Book 2), and Found (Book 3) to enjoy the series in order. Gripping, emotional, and packed with suspense, Fans of Outlander, Station Eleven, and The Leftovers will love this series. Read more

  • Holy Wow!
First, Imogen Keeper is one of the most talented writers I've ever read...and I read like I need air. This series is the first I've read of hers and plan on reading everything else she's ever written. The way Immy develops characters is a work of art. It reminds me of reading the Outlander series bc the world is so vivid and balanced. The characters are real in the sense that they act according to how real people would, rather than skirting over issues and not giving each character the time they deserve. The story between Yorke and Frankie is one of the hottest I've ever read and one of the most beautiful. Thank you for sharing your gift of imagination Ms. Keeper! I can't wait to read everything!! ... show more

  • Quite an enjoyable and adventurous story and main couple
Ok Immy, just finished the 4th book in this series and Yorke and Frankie still have not had sex. WHEN will they get their time? Took a star away for this. Otherwise, love the premise, story, main characters (includes Beast the šŸ•), and supporting characters. I do hope they kick the townfolk's ass in the next book. Which I'm starting now. If Yorke and Frankie don't get off the 'doorstep' and get some steamy sex time(s) in the next (5th) installation I won't be reading the next one, should there be anymore in the series. Fingers crossed. 😊 ... show more

  • Each book gets better
I'm not sure I like some of the new characters. But it's so realistic. A great love development in the new world.

  • So good in angry!
I don't know if I've ever been so upset with a book before. And not the story line, just how its all unfolding. I'm sure there is a reason and I'm impatient to find out. With only one book left I'm curious how we will wrap this up. While I love Frankie and Yorke, this book was more about the world building now that they have left the city and focused a ton on that. Like I said, eager to see how this all wraps up in book 5! ... show more

  • Dragging
How do I describe how frustrated I am with this series….? I have not read anything by this author before, and I was rather excited to find a new books series that seemed promising. I even enjoyed the first couple books. But it is REALLY starting to drag and I think the author is mostly wanting to see how much longer she can make these books last with no end in mind. I do not mind a slow burn romance. But 4 books is not a slow burn. 4 books is like one of those fake tv fires you can find on youtube: not worth the time or the energy to search for it. I will not be purchasing any following books since in all likelihood they will end up with the main couple still not together and no actual safety established for the group. Also, for the record I do understand that the author is attempting to be realistic in how the main female character is struggling with letting go of her former husband and jumping into this new relationship… but again. Four books. I was with you until then. You have made your point. When it ended by setting up for another book with no satisfying conclusions I knew I was done giving any more of my time or money. ... show more

  • Good...In fact....
I almost gave it four stars. I didn't for a couple of reasons. First there were a few serious "typos" -- missing parts of or duplicated sentences and regular typos. This is not Ms Keeper's first rodeo and I simply expect better. Second, how to put this...? Genres and "book type descriptions" exist to attract readers who want to read those types of books. And, if an author takes 2 pages to describe how some takes someone else's shirt off or 6 or 7 pages describing a lovemaking scene, that book is a romance novel buried, like in this case, in a post-apocalyptic novel. Love, romance, sex none of that is a problem and, in fact, help round out and strengthen the characters. It is the amount of time spent and the intimate (double entendre intended) details that cross the line. Nevertheless, I will go on to book five. Respectfully, ... show more

  • Favorite
Probably my favorite of the series so far. The characters are growing but it definitely isn't easy for them to do so. I imagine this is how it really would be for people. So frustrating that you have a pretty good group of decent people just trying to hold onto hope while making a new future, and yet, bullies are controlling others and trying to take what they want from everyone else instead of learning how to do things for themselves. Sad because that's how it would be...I would certainly try to find somewhere secluded but they are still going to end up having to defend their way of life from lazy, wannabe bossy bullies, grrrrr. They will be more determined to defend what they have, though, because they are working hard for it and because they care about each other. Well-written, easy to read, and more going on in this book but the next book isn't out yet. ... show more

  • Nice Addition!
Nice addition to the series. I liked it but I’m a little disappointed in the timeline identified - We’re on book 4 and it’s only been a few months since Frankie & Yorke met...they’re a team but not. I kind of felt like their relationship took steps backward in this book. In a non-apocalyptic world deciding to take it slow would be logical, but they are post-apocalypse where a small percentage of the population survived. The dangers from those survivors are a constant. I don’t think anyone in their group would have made it far if they hadn’t met Yorke & Wendell. How many books in will we be, before the mindset of the characters and Frankie reflect that realization? I’m eagerly waiting for the next book. I’m hoping by the time that happens Frankie has come terms with her new reality and is better able to handle survivor guilt. I want her to be less weepy and more badass like the Frankie we met in the earlier books. ... show more
