The Santa Monica shag carpet by Safavieh is a wonderful very light cream 2 inch shag carpet. This is a quality, dense carpet. Dense for a shag. (But obviously not dense like a wool carpet.) The carpet arrived early. This carpet was described as "used, like new” but it still has that new carpet smell, and was perfect. A lot of people talk about rug smell, so I will say that, yes, there is a smell. But it's not overpowering and after two days in the home I can't really smell it anymore. The first two days however I don't think I would've put a sleeping bag on the carpet slept on top of the smell. But no big deal really, and now after a couple days it's almost gone, without fans or open windows etc. We had two of the California shags from the same company, which we lost in a flood. This Santa Monica much more dense than the California. The backing of the carpet has three colors: tan, white, and a gray black. If you pull on the carpet you can see a little bit of the colors underneath it. But under normal circumstances that would never happen. It is a dense soft luxe carpet. We really love it. If we needed a new carpet today we would get the same one. ... show more

I needed a 4x6 rug for a bedroom 2 boys share. The rug is very high plush, and I have paired it with a 1/2" rug pad. Without the rug pad, this Rug is plush, but not comfortable enough on a hard floor, for my boys to sit on it and play games/legos etc. WITH the rug pad unerneath, it is nice and cushy for even the adults to sit on. ((Note: ALL of my Rugs have rug pads underneath - I think most rugs need the extra padding to be truly comfortable.)) The Dark Grey color is rich, with a few shades that give it depth and a rich dark grey tone, and a slight sheen in the sun. I love it. This is too soon to remark on longevity, although so far it feels of high quality. My boys love it. We tried the silver color first, but the mix of colors gave it a slightly tan tone. I did a ton of research and opted to try this Santa Monica rug (red in color). When I received it, I was pleasantly surprised by the color, very pretty. The carpet was nice and thick and I really liked it until I decided to sit on the floor, itchy! I struggled with what to do because the rug is very well made. I opted to return the Santa Monica rug and order the Milan rug. BEST DECISION EVER. The Milan rug is 12 lbs heavier (denser) and is SUPER SOFT! Folks, trust me, spend the extra couple bucks and order the Milan Shag Rug! You won't regret it! ... show more

The carpet is thick and looks good but the shipping of the carpet folded into a square was not great because it caused creases in the carpet. It should have been rolled properly long ways. For the price it should not be folded into a square.

If you're looking for a classic shag, look no further. I bought the 9.6×13 in Ivory. It came folded. I unfolded, vacuumed,then rolled it up let it sit overnight. Unroll vacuum and placed my furniture..no creases no odor and looks and feels great!
