  • Simple, Compact, and Robust
I am extremely impressed by this enclosure. The packaging was simple but nice and quite minimalist including only the enclosure, a type c to type c cable, a tiny rubber stand off for shorter M.2s and a short concise manual. It is very compact and feels very nice with no rattles. Build quality is good and using it is very simple and intuitive. Press the button lift the cover, insert the SSD and it's ready to rock. With the cost of NVME SSDs as they are this is essentially a cheaper, faster, smaller, quieter, and tougher external drive. I initially bought this so I could set up my SSDs for the PCs in my household, but this will end up replacing my external hard drive as well afterwards. To put it simply it is a external drive enclosure for M.2 SSDs with all the benefits that come with NVME SSDs alongside the ability to change out and upgrade the storage later down the line. There are some things to note however before buying this. The cable included is a type c to type c connector and not all computers have this connector so keep that in mind. The cable itself is also quite short at about 8 inches. (It is comparable to data cables from other external hard drives) If these are issues for you it does also accept type c cables to usb if you have a spare cable which can fix both of these issues. Another point to consider is that under heavier loads the enclosure does heat up. It seems to be made of metal which gives it a quality feel, but that also means the heat transfers quite well. It probably helps with cooling as well, but makes it uncomfortable to hold during heavy loads. Although if you wait for a moment it does cool as quickly as it heats up. Overall it's a solid device that is quite compact and well built. I love its simplicity and upgradeability. At its full price of 39.99 its a solid buy, but I bought mine on sale for 26.99 which is exceptional value. ... show more

  • Very nice but a things to note
This feels like a well made product. The top of the case appears to be aluminum metal but the bottom tray is plastic. The tray is hinged at one end and can be opened like a clamshell at the other end. The star ratings for this product do not relate to the intended purpose of what this adapter does. The three star ratings are for Capacity, For gaming, and Easy to Install. The first two have nothing to do with what this product does so be cautious of looking simply as star ratings. There is no capacity because it's a drive adapter and does not come with a drive. Also, I don't see how this could be used specifically for gaming other than transporting saved game files or install files This product is an M.2 Solid State Drive (SSD) ADAPTER. M.2 is a style of SSD that mounts directly to the motherboard of a computer. When not connected to a motherboard, you can't access the drive without an adapter such as this. The underside of the top lid has a kind of thermal tape which presumably transfers heat to the aluminum lid and is dispersed. While the top of the lid has grooves which "look" somewhat like heat fins, they are too small to really do anything. I mention all of this because this product can get quite warm to the touch. There are three screw options for different sized M.2 drives like the 42mm version. The adapter does come with a single screw for this type of mounting. Whar this product does not come with and which you may need is a USB C (female) to USB (Male) adapter. The product comes with an 8 inch USB C male to male cable. Without the aforementioned adapter, you can't connect it to you PC unless you have a USB C port on your computer. One thing you want to be careful of is not to try to open the adapter while the USB C cable is attached. When the cable is attached, it blocks the hinge from rotating and you could damage the cable or the female connector inside the adapter. I would not use this as a portable drive as it gets too hot for my liking and there are far better options for this. The reason I bought it is that my M.2 drive that was my C drive on my PC became damaged and would not load windows. There were files on that drive that I wanted to retrieve so this adapter basically turned it into a large USB drive and I was able to get then without issue. Hope that helps. This product did what it said and overall I am happy with its performance. ... show more

  • worked great. Did not have any issues.
I was impressed how easy this was to use. It also looks good and seems like it will hold up. Honestly thinking about getting more so I can use them as a large thumbdrive (since I get large VME memory easily)

  • Easy to install, upgrade, and use.
For the first few hours so far, works as intended. Using this enclosure with a 256GB Team Group MS30 NGFF SSD. Press the button on the end, it opens like a clamshell, insert SSD, use the existing 2280 spindle to secure it (or the rubber bung provided if you have a shorter SSD), close it and done. Detected the drive fine, works with Windows/Linux/Android and probably Mac OSX as well, though i have no mac to test with. Speeds with this enclosure are as expected, reaching 490MB/s reads and 380MB/s writes. The drive is rated to 500 reads, 400 writes. Moving my Unity projects (18.9GB), it took about 10 minutes with varying file sizes. The surprise came with the cable, being actually made to USB 3.2 Gen 2 20Gbps specs and therefore quite thick, it will lift up at an odd angle if you use it anywhere not flat because of this. The cable can go either way around thanks to also being USB type C. A down-side is there is no C->A adapter in the box, so you will need to supply your own if you have no C ports. I used one that came with a Quest Link verified cable, worked perfectly fine. Expand-ability is looking great, as you can add up-to a 4TB SSD - great for media or storing raw video files. it also takes NGFF SATA III and PCI-E NVMe 1.1+ SSDs, making it also useful for OS disk cloning from spinning drives to a compact, more energy efficient SSD. Speaking of energy efficient, it also can dissipate a modest amount of heat with it's aluminum top with the provided thermal pad. most SATA SSDs don't need this thankfully, but some NVMe SSDs do, so good move on including this. As an overview, it is worth the price it is currently at (29.99 at this writing), and even better of a deal when discounted 20% or more with it's sturdy construction. Pair it with a WD, Sandisk, or Team Group SSD, and you have a mobile media store, fast expanded storage, a reliable backup, or leave it empty for any disk cloning needs. ... show more
