  • Works seemlessly
Color: Black
I bought this for my sister, who is an avid typist. She loves the change from a regular keyboard. She used the keyboard wired, so there are no ratings for the battery life. Now her computer has the typewriter feel she has always wanted.

  • Cute idea
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. I bought this as an indulgent lightening deal COVID purchase from my wishlist. Even with that promo (no extra discount for pandemic) it was still about $150 before taxes and all. It’s a cute idea, but I’ll share what I liked and what I didn’t and why I chose to return it. I’ll also try to address some questions I read and issues in other weird reviews and I do hope the photos/vid help! (It’s my first time adding video w/a product review or posting a how-to!) (But not my first time using parentheses!) The vintage typewriter stying appealed to me, so I had this sitting on my wishlist for awhile. I like the phone/tablet stand, the fact that it can be backlit (or not) and that I can use this on an uneven surface like a pillow or comforter (as it’s more substantial than my other bluetooth keyboard). I don’t care for the blue color backlight on a vintage inspired item, the plastic keyboard housing, or the plastic keys. Overall it feels sort of... cheap? Gift shop-y? It doesn’t seem to adjust brighter-darker for the backlight. Caps Lock is lit when locked, but otherwise you cannot see it really. The Del and power keys are not backlit, and not sure why this decision was made. Back Space squeaks with each tap. And to answer some else’s question- it would be a bit loud to use in a public space like a cafe. Because it’s not the late 90’s and we’re not using IBM’s. But if you brought an IBM into a cafe, that’s what it would sound like. I use mine at home, it’s not terribly practical to tote around, though it would be dramatic for sure. I wasn’t a fan of the price point. I didn’t feel like I could justify $150-200 for this. I could probably spend $50 on it and not feel guilty though! It doesn’t seem like anything outside of the normal assortment of crap shoot made in China type items on Amazon even though this was at one point a crowd-funded project. And if you want to know how to change the backlight effect (eg: be solid ON or OFF and stop dancing- or dance differently) use the fn and Del keys. Using the arrow keys will only speed up or slow down the dancing light effect. It does not appear as though the backlight brightness adjusts, despite what it says. AND... one other thing! You probably won’t find it under “MX 520” when pairing, but “KnewKey”. I would suggest looking for this item on Alibaba. ... show more

  • Solid KB, Good tactile feel, Attractive , couple of minor annoyances & a small challenge
Color: Black
First, my biggest complaint. I am an 'almost touch typist' trained on IBM style keyboards for more than 30 years. I am used to a raised detente on the F and J keys so I know my hands are properly aligned on the home row. While this keyboard has a scribe marking on those keys (and they illuminate), there is nothing to feel on my index fingers. As a result, sometimes type in what reads like phonetic Russian as my fingers hit the keys they 'think' are correct, but aren't. Other than that, I seem to hit double keys on a fairly commonly. I checked, and the key layout is slightly tighter than my old, 105 key layout KB. Only a couple of tents of an inch total between the A key and the L key, but just enough that when I am in the flow, I scrape up against a key immediately adjacent to the one I meant to hit. This is getting better as I get used to the new kb, but it was an annoyance until I figured out what was the cause. One minor challenge is that keys I am used to using on a 105 key layout are not there on this typewriter layout. In my case, the one I miss the most is print screen for using screen capture functions. A good keyboard macro-ing program solves this in most cases, but if you are used to the bigger layout and use mapped key short cuts, you should be prepared to map your function keys to replace any missing keys on this layout. Good news is that the KB is a pleasure to use, particularly as I get used to it. Key switch feel is great, with really good tactile feedback so I don't miss a letter or hhhhhhhhhhhit one key and get lots of the same letter. KB is solidly built and just plain fun to look at on my desktop. Takes me back to high school and my personal typing class on old Royal manual typewriters. Basically, if knewkey sent my replacement key caps for the F and J keys, with raised detente finger-finders, this would be a 5 star piece of gear insofar as I would evaluate it. ... show more

  • I’m in love!
Color: Black
I just got this keyboard in this morning... finished charging it and linked it up to my iPad. I love it so much I am already jumping on here to leave a review. I always have loved the more tactile, old school clicky type devices. They make me feel more in touch with my writing, and bring a sense of satisfaction that makes the writing (typing) experience enjoyable in and of itself. My primary reason for making this purchase was to have a keyboard for my iPad so that I can work on my writing projects there rather than on my clunky MacBook, or in scattered notebooks. I’m excited to use it after work, and so far it is exactly what I wanted. In the past I bought one of those for-writing-only creativity inspiring devices that have this same old school keyboard feel and no internet to minimize distractions, but have found that I like being able to see my entire work in one document, and prefer not to have to export for editing, etc.. Pairing to my device was very simple — just have the instruction booklet handy so you know which keys to push. You’ll want to fully charge the device before going to use it. I plugged it in about 90 minutes ago and just left it. The size is perfect, and it is comfortable to have sitting in my lap with my iPad up on my table. Very stable. Key spacing is great, for my hands at least — seems standard size. The clicking is very satisfying... probably wouldn’t be great in an office setting where you will annoy other people :). Very pretty to look at, too. And they just dropped the price the day after I bought it! Not great for me, but an excellent time to buy if you are considering it. ... show more
