However, when mailed to me they were not sent within a box or padded mailer - just had an address label slapped on the product packaging. When they arrived, the product packaging was torn, but the sheets remained undamaged. Seller/distributor needs to box these when mailing to customers.

I gave the sheets a 5 because they were good quality for the price. One can spend three times the amount for Portuguese flannel, but the difference between these and more expensive sheets is negligible. I love the blue plaid. Also, the pillow cases are generous in size. I haven’t washed them yet because it was a cold night when I got them and couldn’t wait to put them on. Obviously, I don’t know how they come out of the wash, but I will use cold setting and dry on medium heat.

I've only just washed these sheets so as to make them ready to put on the bed so I can't speak to the durability, but I can tell you that they did not have an excessive amount of lint with the first wash (good or bad??) and they are not the softest "new" flannel sheets I have purchased. I like the deep corners. They fit my extra deep mattress nicely. They have elastic only on the corners and there are no labels to mark top/bottom or sides. I find that helpful, but not a deal breaker. I am also pleased with the plaid. However, I was unhappy with the flaw in the weave. I found this flaw in two places which will not feel good against your skin. I think that with this kind of a flaw these should have been sold as seconds, but nowhere does it indicate that they are. Since I washed them, I don't think I can return them, but I was disappointed with their quality and would not purchase again unless I was offered a price adjustment. The second set of sheets that I ordered at the same time, have the same labeling are completely different as far as quality. After washing, there was much more lint with this set that came out with drying, they are much thicker, softer and there were no flaws in the weave. The two sets truly don't look like they came from the same manufacturer. This second set is awesome and what I expect from a flannel sheet. I can't explain it, but I would definitely NOT get the black plaid and hope that what you do purchase is the same as this second set. You can almost see the difference in the softness between the two in the photos.
