Description

WOODLIFE Classic Clear Wood Preservative is a clear, fungicidal exterior wood preservative with water repellent designed for use on above ground applications. It protects against rot and decay by inhibiting mold, mildew, and staining fungus growth on the wood surface. It has excellent water repellency and anti-wicking properties to resist moisture damage, including swelling, shrinking, warping, and splitting. Use on all species of untreated or pressure-treated lumber including plywood or engineered wood. The water-based formula allows for fast, easy cleanup with soap and water. From the Manufacturer Use on above-ground wood installations (especially non- pressure-treated lumber), to protect the structural integrity. Prevents mold, mildew and other fungi attack, and dimensional change caused by water absorption. Use as a final finish or under an oil-base primer followed by desired paint or stain.

This product does what it is supposed to do. I had a retired carpenter install two brand new redwood side entry gates on our home, and he recommended this product to seal the wood. 2 quarts is the perfect amount needed for 2 gates that are about 4.5 feet wide and 6 feet high. I purchased 2 quarts here on Amazon, and it covered both sides of each gate. I also used a one gallon hudson type sprayer with a broad spray pattern on the tip. A sprayer makes excellent time with covering just about any wood project, and cleans up nicely with water. Of course you can roll on or brush on, but saturation is what's key, so use a sprayer. This prodcut as stated in other reviews goes on kind of milky in color, but dries clear. Get this stuff. ... show more

I thoroughly treated a spot and surrounding area where a wood-burrowing insect had started chewing past the stained surface, but a few months later found another insect had returned to that spot (since the stain had been penetrated there) to burrow in deeper. So I'm a bit skeptical of the supposed insect-repellent properties of this product. ... show more

Hint: Make sure to note the size you are ordering. I ordered a quart, not a gallon. It was barely sufficient for about an 8' x 8' sheet of plywood which is being used as the surface for an exterior barn door. This has the consistency of water and the look of milk. It is not thick like paint. It will drip off any surface not absorptive. It's like painting with water. It dried quickly and did not inhibit the next layer of paint. Hard to say if it will protect the wood more than paint alone but can't hurt. ... show more

Have used this product for several years. Main advantages are that it is easy to use, soaks into wood easily, can be painted or stained after drying for 24 hours. This should be used on any exterior bare wood, whether being left unfinished, or painted or stained. Unfortunately, I thought I was ordering a gallon at a good price. Price here is quite high, especially for a quart. You may try buying through local paint supplier or hardware store - they may have to special order it. ... show more
