I’m extremely happy with this drone. Right out of the box it was easy to set up and very beginner-friendly, but it still has features that more experienced users will appreciate. Nice little drone! I had an issue with mine, and contacted customer service. I got through incredibly quick, and they were eager to help replace my unit at no extra charge! Which I appreciate! lol This drone takes pretty good pictures and video! I have had several drones in the past, and the quality has been far less than advertised. With this small, flimsyish camera, I was really surprised at how well they came out! The video is incredibly stable, and I’m really happy with the results! It’s a bit loud, but not overly so. I have had mini drones that were louder. I just wouldn’t use it for any top secret spy missions. The battery life is insane! The battery on the controller didn’t last as long as the drone batteries! I’m so used to only being able to fly for under 10 minutes! Between the three batteries that came with it, I was airborne for over an hour (total combined time)! As for the controller, maybe keep a USB power bank with you, and you won’t have issues. Big manual, yet easy to fly! Getting started seemed a bit confusing at first, but following the quick guide got me flying in no time at all! Be sure to read it!! For the price, it performs as well as drones more then twice what this one costs!

UPDATE: I wanted to amend my review as my drone unfortunately developed a camera issue where it failed to focus correctly. I reached out to Ruko technical support to see if there was any fix that I could perform. I followed steps they asked me to complete, sent them some sample photos, and when we couldn't find a way to remedy it they immediately informed me they were sending me a warranty replacement. I don't normally write in call caps, but TOP NOTCH CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was already very happy with my experience purchasing from Ruko but this really was above and beyond. PREFACE: If you are purchasing this in the USA keep in mind that you will need to register this drone with the FAA as well as complete TRUST training before you can legally fly it recreationally (as it weighs more that 250 grams). Registration costs 5 dollars and is good for 3 years. TRUST training is free. There are more rules and regs, but this info will get your foot in the door and you will pick it up as you go! ACTUAL REVIEW: I am not an experienced drone pilot. I've flown quad copters before but most of these were smaller ones that bordered on the concept of being considered a toy. This is the first drone I've picked up that felt 'professional'. While you could easily spend 5-10x the amount on a drone as you would on this one I feel this is a solid contender for someone's first mid-tier drone. I'm not going to ramble on about specs and flight time as that has been done ad nauseam. I'd rather talk about my specific thoughts about the pros and cons of this unit. PROS: 1. The GPS system is a lifesaver for a new drone pilot. What better way to fly a drone as a newbie than to, in essence, allow the drone to fly itself? Thanks to GPS tracking (along with all of the other sensors) you can set your drone to a specific heigh and location and set your controller down without worrying about it drifting. The drone will self-correct and stay put regardless of wind conditions. Stick inputs are interpreted and executed just as you would expect and you never have to worry about manually correcting for wind shifts or gusts or anything like that. You do, however, have to worry about objects such as trees and wires, but since wind isn't a concern you can focus all of your attention on that. I actually took this drone out into 10 mph winds today with gusts up to 20mph and it performed admirably which gave me a lot of confidence in this drone. 2. The remote distance is unreal. I live in a densely populated neighborhood with literally hundreds of wifi routers and still never had an issue with controlling the drone. The furthest I could fly it was about .7 kilometers (due to line of sight requirements) and still had full signal strength to the drone. Even if I didn't, though, I wouldn't have to worry too much because any loss of signal and the drone would return to home. 3. The app allows you to limit range of the drone. While experienced pilots most likely don't care about this, it is huge for a beginner as you build confidence in your flying abilities. You can limit it to specific vertical/horizontal distances and should you accidentally send your drone flying in a direction you didn't mean it to go, it will stop itself once it hits the invisible boundary you set. Again, great confidence builder. 4. It's fairly zippy. Once you drop it into sports mode it will fly almost 27 mph. Not going to set any drone speed records but that is acceptably fast considering you won't be losing altitude. CONS: (These cons are all going to be nitpicky as I really like this drone and believe it does exactly what it was meant to do, but I feel people shouldn't have misconceptions) 1. There is a bit of lag between stick input and actual video of drone movement. This isn't surprising as you have to send the command over wifi, the drone has to interpret and execute the command, then the video data has to be sent back to your phone. This creates a bit of lag which makes precise maneuvering a challenge. If you are expecting video-game-like response times you will be disappointed, but this type of lag is not unexpected. 2. The gimbaled camera feels extraordinarily fragile. It works fantastically but I feel nervous even taking the camera cover off and on. That said, this isn't a toy and you also aren't spending 1500 dollars on it so you are riding a fine line of 'works great but isn't expensive to implement'. It is what you should expect on something at this price point and I have no real complaints about it. 3. If you want to start taking pictures for your youtube channel, or your church, or maybe make some money taking videos of events or weddings, this is not something you can immediately do. You actually need to pay 175 dollars to take a test to get your Part 107 license before you can do anything other than fly recreationally. This really isn't any con of the drone, but rather just something I wish I knew beforehand. FINAL WORD: Is this an acrobatic drone that you're going to take out to fly stunt maneuvers or weave in and out of obstacles? Definitely not. Is it a drone that is solid, stable, easy to fly and takes some great photos and video? Yes it is. This drone is an amazing value if you are thinking about getting into aerial photography. It definitely checks all of the boxes of features I'd like to see. There are a few weaknesses as I stated earlier (camera feels fragile. No FAA remote ID compliance for certain situations). but if you want those specific things improved upon you can always spend 5 times as much on something else. This drone, however, is nailing it for this segment of the market and if (for some reason) I find I need a second photography drone I will be purchasing a second f11gim2 from Ruko.

Overall I'm quite happy with this drone. It is my second, but the first one I had was no where near as capable. I bought that one about 8 years ago and the fun wore off rapidly as it was cheap and did not fly well. The Ruko F11 Gim2 different. It is an easy to fly quadcopter that is stable and responsive in flight. The aircraft itself, the F11, is an airframe that has been expanded on with a growing number of drone models, each with upgraded avionics and/or camera and gimbal mount. There are a multitude of unboxing/first flight/review/distance tests videos for this drone on YouTube that give you a clear picture of the drone. A few additional thoughts on where Ruko can improve this drone To be clear this drone has a 2-axis gimbal, not 3-axis. I'm very picky when it comes to photography so while the camera on this drone is OK and will make most people very happy with the images and video that comes from this drone, there are some things that can be improved. The lens on the camera could be better. It does introduce a bit of distortion beyond what is expected for a wide angle lens like this.. For the price point it isn't bad and isn't that noticeable. The camera works in 8-bit format. UGH! How sad that Ruko couldn't specify a 12 or 14-bit camera for this drone. Since you have 128 Gig of space to work with on the SD card, higher bit, raw format images could be part of this package. Let me shout that this drone is QUIET. Seriously. It is audible of course, but even at full thrust it isn't loud,grating or annoying. My wife has a very low threshold of tolerance for whirring sounds and she said this drone doesn't both her in the least. (Big relief!) Speaking of full trust, I was curious as to how much the drone could lift, so I designed and 3D printed a simple clip on harness so I could attach a weight to the drone and with a scale, see how much the drone could lift. On a 104F (40C) afternoon in Tucson at 2400 feet (730-m) MSL can almost lift about 490 grams or just over a pound! There aren't many accessories available commercially for the F11 airframe, so I'm designing and 3D printing additional items to make the drone most versatile. The app for the drone is the biggest disappointment. The version I downloaded and installed on my old Samsung Galaxy 7 phono is pretty unstable. It repeated crashes while making the connection with the drone. Once you do make a connection and can load the flight control screen, the app is stable. I have not had it crash while flying. Reading in forums it seems that this problem was introduced with the latest update to the app. Previous versions didn't have the instability problem. Hopefully Ruko will have this problem solved quickly! Other than the instability of the app, there are a few things that need to be improved. It can be a little hard finding some of the tools included n the app. The layout and iconography of the app needs to be considered. Once connected you have the view out of the drone's camera on your screen with flight information and icons overlaying that video. It would be useful if the pilot could change the size and color of the info and icons to be easier to read under the conditions of the flight Camera control is non-existent. A real shame. Auto-exposure is the only option and jpg the only format for stills. Seriously, in 2013? Come on Ruko, you can do much better! As I write this the Remote ID requirement date in the United States is rapidly approaching. There is speculation that this aircraft is not compliant with this requirement. That is not correct. The FAA Drone Zone website shows that this aircraft is compliant. I contacted Ruko customer service about my Remote ID serial number and got a quick response asking for my Amazon order number. They thanked me for the information and in short order I had my number and the drone registered on the FAA's website. Simple and painless, with no FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) I picked up a Firehouse Arc V FAA certified strobe and 3D printed a clip-on mount for that too. I don't want to mar my drone with stuck on hook & loop fasteners nor do I trust the glue used on them to last any length of time. So far I've only made one night flight, but it was a blast! Accessories for the F11 airframe are not common, other than snap on landing gear to keep the camera and props away from tall grass and rough ground, and prop guards, so it lends itself to 3D printed accessories too. I've designed and 3D printed a few other accessories to make protecting and flying my Ruko F11 Gim2 simpler. Skins for the F11 are also surprisingly rare, but I did order a leopard print skin to put on my Gim2. That should be fun So overall I am happy with my Ruko F11 Gim2 drone. The app & cmaera are the only things keeping this drone from getting 5 stars. I've read others compliment Ruko's customer service and from my own experience so far I have to agree. They're quick to respond and helpful. I hope they can improve the app in near future updates. I'd love to see this platform with an improved camera and camera control through the app. It will be interesting to see where Ruko goes with this drone family!

I was looking for something not too expensive, good video/picture quality, lightweight/portable, had to have a follow-me function, and decent battery life. After reading through several different drones and using it for over a year, I think this was a good choice. My goal was to capture cool video of the many hikes and canoe trips I go on. I really love the outdoors and backpacking. The case for this drone is small enough to fit inside my backpack (yea, it takes up a fair amount of room, but it's the best fit I could find other than a micro-drone). The case is well-made and has passed the test of time. I've made several flights and the battery life has been about 20 minutes for each flight. I haven't completely drained the battery because I'm afraid of it just dying in mid-flight. It will return home on it's own if the battery is near dead, I just don't want to risk it. I've flown it to very near the maximum distance, about 7,900 (about 1.5 miles) of the rated 9,000. That flight was over a "summer home" lake with no obstructions the whole time. I still had good video and as I was still learning, I didn't want to push the full 9,000, but I think I could have. I also made long flights where I live, in an urban area. Here I was flying over telephone poles, had some trees in my way, etc. Not exactly the perfect environment. I took it up to 400' altitude (max height to stay out of the line of houses and stuff) and flew it about 4,000 feet before starting to lose the connection. Visually, it's completely out of sight. Probably after about 1,500 feet, you can't see it anymore. Those were long-range test flights, but in reality, I don't think I'll be making mile long flights with it when I'm out hiking or camping. My goal is to use it not for exploring, but just to put the camera in a cool spot to frame myself passing through the video. The video is rock-steady stable. I'm amazed that even while I'm flying it and jinking it around, the video is rock solid. Even on sport mode where the flight characteristics are aggressive. The follow-me function works, but not as well as I had hoped. But it will be good enough for my purposes. There is one version where it's supposed to track an image in the field of view and keep it in the field of view. For example, you point the camera at yourself with the drone about 30 feet away. Then you draw a square on your phone around yourself with your finger. That tells the software to follow the object in the square. Then you can start walking around and it will follow you. However, it only turns to follow you, it won't move from the spot you placed it. The other follow-me mode is GSP enabled, so it will track where the controller is located. That mode is true follow-me. Then I as able to walk around and it followed behind me. Perfect for if I'm in the canoe and I want some video of me paddling and not sitting in the canoe holding a controller. I think throwing in several seconds of drone footage in a video, using it sparingly, will greatly enhance video productions. Don't go crazy with the footage, just a few shots mixed in will work perfectly. For the price and performance factors, this is a great choice for my needs.

This drone is VERY VERY bad. I tried to describe how bad it is, but amazon rejected my first review for some reason that they did not elaborate on, so I have no idea what I said wrong. Here is my second go... DO NOT BUY THIS DRONE!!! The video quality is horrible... super noisy and frequently overexposed with no way to adjust the exposure. I'm sharing a photo taken with the drone to show how absurdly bad the image quality is. Flight time is pretty short, only about 15 min per battery on my last flight. GPS controls do not work properly and are confusing to figure out. The instruction manual is no help either because the Chinese translated into English makes no sense half the time, so good luck trying to learn how to use the thing... manual controls work fine though if that's all you want to use. It also has difficulty connecting to the remote sometimes. I would say that any other drone is a better value than this, because this one simply does not work very well at what it's supposed to do, which is take HD videos and photos from the air. Did I mention the video quality is awful? I'd use stronger language but I have no idea what words amazon considers "profanity" so just pretend I said a word stronger than "awful." Lastly, I learned the hard way that if you forget to end your recording before shutting the drone off, that recording disappears!! Apparently it doesn't actually save videos to the card until you hit "stop." Very annoying... but that was technically user error I suppose. Regardless, I regret buying this and wish I had gone with a more popular model instead, like a DJI or whatever else people are using these days. There is very little to no support to be found for this model of drone online either, so BUYER BEWARE.
