I was a bit disappointed with the quality, they seem to be best suited for light duty. They will be fine for my use, but I would be hesitant to use them for heavy carpentry uses.

Clamps are made well, except for the steel disc that holds the work piece. Leaves dents in work pieces if left unprotected.

My first impressions of these hold downs was that they are very light and feel almost fragile. After first use my worries left me. I don't really enjoy how thin the tube for the dog is but it has proven to be a strong and ridged hold down in the appropriate size hole. The design is simple yet effective for light to medium abuse work the tool works perfectly fine. A final tip from your fellow wood worker is of course to lubricate the threads so that you don't bind while clamping the work. ... show more

    • Love these hold-downs, just one issue
I have "needed" a hold fast/bench dog clamp for a while and these are really nice to work with. The metal is strong but very lightweight and the knurled post is a great touch, it provides a very good grip. The screw threads work smoothly and the knobs feel quality enough. Assembling them was easy and they were very well packaged. Right now there is a coupon that brings the pair below $20 which seems like a good value. The only aspect that keeps me from giving these five stars and buying a couple more is that the steel discs dented the wood in my tests. With as nicely made as the clamps are, it is a little surprising that this was overlooked or skipped and some sort of protective cap was not included but if I can figure out a simple enough way to protect wood I would purchase a couple more. I see some other reviews have some great suggestions that I will try. ... show more

These bench dog hole clamps are are well made and offer good clamping power to securely hold your workpiece. The knurled body fits snuggly (almost too snugly) into a standard 3/4" bench dog hole and clamping pressure is easily applied with the knobs. One issue is that the clamping surface is made from simple stamped steel and can easily damage your workpiece. When this is of concern, then leather pads should be attached to the clamping surface or a scrap board placed between the clamp and the final workpiece. Overall, I am very happy with these dog hole clamps and know that I will find many uses for them. At $26.99 for the pair, they are a good value and I recommend them. ... show more

    • Knurled shaft Holds Tight In Wood
I really like the design of these bench clamps. The highly knurled shaft really grips onto the wood in the dog hole. You can get some impressive force out of this clamp. This brings me to what I don't like about this item. First, and foremost is that the front round foot easily damages wood surfaces. We should have been supplied with a rubber boot that slips over the foot. Second, is that the main knurled shaft easily unscrews from the clamping body. For Me, this posed a real problem, and I was constantly re-tightening and re-screwing the parts back together. It got so annoying that I finally put red Loctite thread locker glue on the shaft threads. ... show more

    • Decent hold downs, good value
These clamps are well made and finished. They arrive well packed in a cutout polyurethane foam lined box. The clamps are lightweight and easy to store and handle. I find them to be of sufficient strength for their intended task, but I wouldn't overdo it on the screw when tightening. The aluminum is a lot softer than the steel screw, and the posts are hollow. For some reason, the screw and vice face are shipped unassembled, and you must put them together. A little Loctite 242 on the screws holding the face is probably a good idea. As a final point, the clamp face doesn't include a pad. you could glue a bit of leather or 3D print a pad with TPU. All in all, these are decent clamps and a good value. ... show more

As others have mentioned, this can leave a mark on your product if you're not careful, a quick padding addition to the head of the clamp would be beneficial, or you can place a shim under it to protect the surface if needed. Otherwise, nice assembly. The adjustment is very easy to operate, it does not bind. Keep the threads clean and it should continue to operate as intended for a long time. The knurl on the stem is nice to keep it in the dog hole. Overall a good item for this type of clamp. ... show more
