  • Hope to never need but glad to have
Size: Medium
We have two rescue mutts with high anxiety who would run back and forth swapping windows continuously, occasionally trying to pop up in the front seat. We bought a Subaru Outback with the intention of increasing our road trips, hiking, and general outdoor life with our dogs. But I wanted to find something that kept them safe on longer trips. The very first time we used these and the dogs were each nicely and safely seated in their respective places and rode calmly from point A to point B, it was a whole new experience. They love getting these put on because they know it means we're going somewhere fun. The entire ride is safer for us all because I'm not distracted by pacing, whining, intrusive dogs behind me. We have now owned these for quite a while and have taken them on many road trips including the Great Smokey Mountains. While we have not had an accident and pray we never do, we have had to hard brake several times and the dogs both remained on the seat rather than spilling off the bench. It makes me believe that their contraptions would perform as described. These vests are well made quality item that will stand the test of time. If I ever needed to replace them, I would unhesitatingly buy these again. ... show more

  • Too Long for a small dog
Size: X-Small
The safety harness is very well made and seems like it would keep a dog safe in the car. The problem for my dog is that the area that covers the chest is too long. It goes so far down his torso that the lower edge of it pushes against his privates. So, although I felt confident that it would protect him in the car, I had to return it. I did find it easy to adjust and the straps and clips are strong and cleverly designed. The one thing that would make it better would be a way to attach a leash. My dog will only walk if the leash is attached to his harness. If I attach the leash directly to his collar he freezes in place and will not move. ... show more

  • Great for safety, comfortable for dog
Size: Medium
We've been using this harness for 2 months with our 60lb adult Lab. It's been great. She can sit and lay down with it easily when she's seatbelted. It's comfortable for her to wear - she even gets excited when we bring it out. It's just as fast to put on as our other ruffwear harnesses. The metal buckles to put the harness on the dog can sometimes take a few tries with a wiggly dog, but I appreciate their strength. I've adjusted the fit a few times because I am fussy, but it has been straightforward to do. We chose this harness because it was the most reasonablely priced of the few crash rated harnesses available on the market. Most other tethers and harnesses will NOT secure your dog in even a medium speed crash. That's important for human safety and the dog's. My one design request would be leash attachments on the harness. In a pinch we can attach a leash to her collar or the seatbelt loop. Most often I just put this vehicle harness on over a walking harness. But for outings that involve just a quick transfer from building to car and back (like car ride-only trips or vet trips) it would be nice to have leash attachments on the harness, especially one on the front. ... show more

  • I could not get it on
Size: Medium
Its a bit of a nightmare to get this thing on the dog and then get it to fit. There is no explanation how to put it on and how to tighten or loose the thousands of straps. It is very stiff and uncomfortable. I wanted this to secure the dog in a Jeep Wrangler. The dog is not able to roam around in the car. I do not recommend this harness. Going straight back. ... show more

  • Only as Strong as the Strap
Size: Large
I was so excited to finally find a comfortable crash-tested harness for my 85 pound, deep chested, Ridgeback. Many styles shift around the thinner deep chest and twist out of place, so this sling-like fit was very adjustable for her large chest girth and smaller waist. My dog has very good and patient car manners, usually sitting in one spot calmly. For short trips, this harness worked great, as she had enough bandwidth using the seatbelt slack to move around comfortably - if attached on one side of the back seat, she could only reach the other side with her nose - perfect for my child to open the door on their side but not release the dog. Even on long trips, the extra slack allowed the dog to curl up and be comfortable for a few hours. However, on about our 2nd long car trip, we noticed that the seatbelt had started to rub forcefully against the attach loop, causing it to begin to fray. On the third trip, we noticed the dog had gotten bored and chewed the actual seat belt strap a bit - hard to correct when the dog is in the third row of an SUV. On the 4th trip... the dog had figured out after about 3 hours of good behavior, that she could actually reach the attach strap when curled up and secretly chew it. It only took a few minutes of her being bored, but when we arrived home we found the attach loop completely destroyed. My dog is not a "chewer" by any means, but the shape and fit of this harness, coupled with her odd body shape, allowed her full range to destroy the strap in just a few minutes. If the strap were a little tougher or more chew-proof than a simple webbing strap, this might have worked out better. What started out as a happy find and a real splurge - has turned into buyer's remorse. Never again will I spend close to $100 on a short-term chew toy for my dog. ... show more
