They’re dumbbells—not much to be said. The material seems alright but maybe less dense rubber than those at the gym. That said, the rubber might not hold up to a lot of abuse, but as these are for your home gym they won’t be put through nearly as much use and abuse as those in a regular gym would. The grip feels decent—the knurling dogs a bit compared to those at the gym, so I’ll probably try to use my gloves with these. Not much of a chemical smell either, which was a plus. After using several steel dumbbells and had the finish break off (once a metal piece fell into my eye and I had to fish it out!) it’s rubber coated for me for now on! ... show more

They work great. Graduated up from my 12 pounds and ordered these. The grips are good, the solid pieces coated well. Only problem? Not realizing what's on the porch and trying to pick up 40 pounds when you weren't expecting it! Totally recommend.

After reading a lot of reviews, I was expecting a stronger rubbery smell to these, and was fine with it due to the price---But these had a very minor smell that was not bothersome at all...Like the smell I expect anything made of that material to have, but it wasn't strong like I thought it would be. I love these weights and have been implementing them into my program! I think they're a great deal for the price, and feel just like the weights I've used in the gym. A box with 100 pounds of weights seems like it could easily break and lose contents. This box contained plywood plates on the top and bottom to prevent such a mishap. The weights were also packed in pairs in smaller boxes inside the larger main box. So no contents lost. The dumbbells' metal handles had a coating of oil that smells like machine oil, so I wiped them off, and am now waiting for the smell of the oil to dissipate like the customer reviews say that it will. Since these 8 dumbbells cost altogether only about $120.00, I'll assume that these are concrete rather than steel weights, and will treat them accordingly so that they don't get damaged. I wasn't planning to be throwing them around or dropping them on hard floors anyway. ... show more

Seem well manufactured with good rubber coating and comfortable grips. Only complaint as others have mentioned is they do give off quite a strong chemical odor. Hopefully that will fade over time.
