We bought this to replace a similar slicer. I'm not really confident that this one is going to last as long as the previous one. I will say that we don't use it to cut butter, instead we cut the blocks of Cracker Barrel cheese. The spacing on the wires is not consistent, there are slight variations.

I actually learned to use it as a cheese cutter as well. My sister-in-law showed me how to use it with brick cheese. It's really handy when you are trying to cut cheese quickly. You need to be patient. It doesn't cut as quickly as cheese cutters.

So initially I had problems cutting the sticks. I was either doing it upside down or the butter was right out of the fridge. Then today I left a stick of butter out since my previous slices were practically gone and I wanted more butter than that for my biscuits. I used the stick to rub on the foil t
hen when they finished cooking I was going to add some to each biscuit. When I went back in and saw that I left the butter out and right next to the oven I decided to come back and look at the pictures to see which way was correct and then I used it on that butter and it went down so easy but not all the way so I pushed it out the rest of the way and it was great! Of course we still need sticks for other recipes and the pictures show a butter stick cut in half so perhaps that is the European butter Julia was referring to. Overall I am very happy with it 😊 Even though the first time when the butter was cold and it was upside down I still used it and loved the fact that some were in half and that gave me an idea to cut the halves in half again for buttered toast 🙂

I really love this butter slicer. It gives me even slices. I believe 2 slices is one tablespoon. I wanted as close to precise for my bullet proof coffee. 1 TBS is perfect. Because of my butter dish it needs a little help, but otherwise I couldn't ask for a better one.
