We picked this bike up for my 8 year old since he had clearly outgrown his previous one and we wanted something he could grow into instead of replacing again in a year or two. We debated the 20 versus the 24 inch and I am glad we went with the 24. It is a little big for him right now but with the seat lowered and the handlebars adjusted he can ride it comfortably and is already getting used to the size. The quality has been excellent. RoyalBaby has been part of our kids biking journey for years starting all the way back with a balance bike so choosing this again was easy. The frame feels sturdy and well made and I can tell it is going to last through several growth spurts and plenty of daily riding. One thing that really mattered to my son is the branding. At his age he does not want anything that says baby on it and this bike keeps things clean with a simple logo. His name even starts with R so he loved that little personalized detail. Assembly was straightforward. The bike arrived mostly put together and I only needed to attach the handlebars seat and pegs. The pegs were a fun bonus and easy to screw on and off. He had no idea what they were for at first so we got to have a fun throwback conversation about riding as kids. I like that this setup uses a rear brake only. For his age that feels safer and easier to control while he is still building confidence. He balances well on it and keeps it upright easily even with the larger frame. The color looks great and has held up well so far. He has been riding this almost every day since we got it and that says everything. I have a 12-year-old and a 9-year-old, and I ordered this in the 20" size thinking it MUST fit at least one of them. The good news is it's slightly bigger than the 12-year-old's current bike. To be fair, they're both a little shrimpy for their ages, but they're good kids. My wife said she always wanted a BMX bike when she was a kid but her dad wouldn't let her have one and she said she was likely to steal this one from the kids since BMX bikes are supposed to be small, anyway. She assembled it because she's the handy one between the two of us, and honestly, I know next to nothing about bikes, I don't even know how to ride one. She was super impressed with how easy it was to assemble, all she had to do was put on the handlebars, pedals, and the seat. Everything else came fully assembled, which she was pleasantly surprised by, and all you need to put it together are the two included Allen wrenches. After putting it together, we're both very impressed with the look of the bike; my wife made comments like, "it's Darth Vader in bike form," and "it looks like a stealth fighter." We got the black, and we both appreciate the minimalist branding that RoyalBaby chose to go with-- maybe if you have a Mongoose you want the name plastered all over the bike, but RoyalBaby went with a small, tasteful logo on the front that leaves the rest of the bike looking super sleek. The tires are super squishy and bouncy and it's large enough to give both of our kids room to grow into. I honestly wasn't sure whether a 20" or a 24" would be better for our kids, because like I said, I know nothing about bikes, but the 12 year old is probably about 56" tall and his old bike, which fit him just fine, is a little shorter than this one. This also has bars on both the front and back wheels which are great for tricks or carrying multiple people on your bike. My wife even noted that the underside of the front of the seat is somewhat ergonomic, making it easy to grab by the seat, or potentially do tricks on. I don't think our kids are quite those sorts of daredevils, but it's nice to have, and I think the whole think looks super badass. The kid is very excited to get back to our house since my wife sent him pictures of the bike, and overall we're delighted with it so far. ... show more

2026-01-28. BMX Bike by Royal Baby. 24-inch. Frame: Steel Color: Red/Black This steel framed BMX bike by RoyalBaby has all the specifications of a "starter bike." It's steel frame is on the heavy end at almost 33lbs, even as far as steel frames go. The 24" top tube is considered to be a longer frame which provides a more relaxed position. It won't be as maneuverable as a compact frame, but when you're starting off, you don't really want something too compct. The headset is of a medium angle providing a balanced feel between responsiveness and control, which matches the longer frame (NB: the steeper the headset, the more responsive it will feel; but for big transitions or big dirt jumps, it will feel out of place). Based on the teeth of the sprockets, the gear ratio is 2.25 (36T/16T) which is relatively comfortable as it will be easier to pedal and accelerate; but comes at the cost of lower top speed compared to higher ratios, making it less ideal for racing or high speed dirt trails (i.e. good for street or park riding where rapid short bursts of speed are needed over sustained top speeds.) I really have only two notables. The first is that there is no built-in chain tensioner. A built-in chain tensioner helps stop your rear end from moving as much, super helpful, especially when you're using pegs. But this is something more experienced riders are not concerned with, not those just starting into the sport. The other notable I have is that there is a lifetime warranty on the frame, and typically when a company offers one, it means you'll never need to use it. Overall, this BMX bike RoyalBaby screams "beginner", and is a decent bike for anyone just getting into the sport. But if anyone is serious about it, they will most likely outgrow it after a season (two max) for something more custom to their riding style. The frame is well built, and the features are well balanced. The bike is on the heavy side and as one's skill progresses, they'll definitely want to go lighter and shorter. For what you get, I personally think it's a little on the pricey side, but it does come with everything you need. Some assembly is required, but it's minimal and no different from any other bike you buy. Tools are required, and included. ... show more
