I was looking for a good quality bicycle for my 8-year-old granddaughter but was not very impressed with the offerings from the retailers in my area. Having a credible knowledge of bicycles, I searched Amazon and came across RoyalBaby bicycles. Based on her size and riding ability, I focused on this 20-inch "Stargirl" bike. The features I look for are all on this bike. It is rigidly built with a steel frame yet weighs only 19 lbs. If a bike is too heavy, a child will struggle to ride it (especially a little girl). There is a lot of adjustability for seat and handlebars. Once I adjusted them for her size and comfort, I found there was much more room to go as she grows. The frame style provides for an easy step in and step out, ideal for girls. Being 8 years old, she is into the "princess theme" this bike has. However, it is subtle enough that as she gets older and breaks from her "royal lineage" it will still be "cool" enough for her to ride. For some reason, the "lavender" color frame was $50 cheaper than "purple" (although I couldn't tell the difference from the photos on Amazon) so lavender it was! (I think it's just a lighter, creamier purple shade but still looks good.) I was very impressed at how well the bicycle was packaged. Areas susceptible to damage while shipping were wrapped in plastic and/or cardboard. I found no damage at all. As advertised, assembly was very easy. You mount the seat, handlebar assembly, pedals and reflectors. The provided tools are adequate for assembly, but I preferred to use my own. Other than that, I found all components to be correctly installed and tightened. The tires were even properly inflated! There is a basket included. It attaches to the handlebars with 2 adjustable locking bands. There is also a bell although it is a flimsy "single ping" that has a dull sound to it. One thing to note is that the brakes on this bike differ based on the size you choose. This 20-inch model has a front caliper hand brake but instead of a rear coaster brake, it has an unusual hand operated drum brake. They both work well and the brake levers are easy enough for little hands to grasp. This is important though if your child is used to the traditional coaster brake as the crank will "free wheel" when pedaling backwards. My granddaughter loves her new bike. She had graduated from training wheels last year and adjusted easily to the new, larger bike. She quickly learned how to use the hand brakes without issue. She thinks it's fun to ride which hopefully should encourage her to want to ride more often. There are many brands and styles of bicycles you can choose for your child. It is important to choose one that fits their size, is easy and FUN to ride. RoyalBaby has several models for boys and girls, and with my knowledge of bicycles, I feel they are very good quality for the price. ... show more

I bought this bike for my daughter's 7th birthday and she absolutely loves it! It's a beautiful blue color with pink accents and a cute basket in the front. I purchased this for my 3, almost 4 year old daughter. I looked at many other bikes before I decided on this one. The main selling feature was that it came with a hand break standard. My older daughter was almost in a horrible crash when she was 5 because the chain came off her bike on a hill, so the brakes didn't work. Yes, I know that she could have put her feet down to stop, but she was too scared to think of it at the time. Thank God a stranger heard our yelling and stepped in to stop her. The bike came well packed in a box with all the tools needed to assemble. The directions were in broken English but the pictures were easy to follow. It took me 20 to 30 min to put together mostly because I had "help". My daughter loves the girlie color and the ribbons on the handle bars. I like the fact that there are no pictures of princesses, Barbie, or any other character that could fall out of favor and therefore start the whine for a new bike with the latest favorite character on it. Here are the downsides: 1. the training wheels have very little adjust to them, so you can't raise them off the ground as your child gains skill. 2. the plastic fasteners on the basket are not very strong so plan on using something else to keep the basket on long term, like zip ties 3. The bike ships from the factory in China so shipping takes a little longer. UPDATE: My now 4 yr old daughter has been riding this bike almost every day for over 3 months now and we are still happy with it. We have found it to be very sturdy and have only had to reattach the bell once and have tightened all the bolts. I was a little worried that the training wheels were not wide enough to keep the bike stable, but they seem to be fine. She really has to work at it to tip this bike over. I got this bike for my tall newly 5 year old for her birthday. I was able to assemble by myself pretty quickly the night before her birthday, and it seems well made. The accessories that come with it do seem rather cheap, but the bike was cheap, so I can’t complain. I will say it is too large for my daughter, she needs a bit of time to grow into it so I should’ve bought a smaller size.
