  • Best Small Scope for the Money
I do like the feel and the design. The image is surprisingly clear (considering cost) and seems to be of quality build. First I bought this scope for myself. I do like the feel and the design. It fits comfortably in my hand, and it is easy to look through and operate. I like how light it is, and that it is compact. The price seems excellent for what you get. This will be used for outdoor activities, mostly hiking and camping. Full size binoculars are pretty heavy when hiking and if you don't have them around your neck they are cumbersome to get out. By the time you do that, you have lost the bird/animal you wanted to scope. I like the neck strap, it gives a convenient way to wear it. The price seems more than fair for what you receive, the only real issue for me is that the scope doesn’t have lens covers on either side. For me, I would rather have the lens covers and shove it in my pocket than have a belt holster. Let's say I'm hiking and I have it around my neck, and I need to take it off. If I am not using the holster I am now risking a scratch on the lens. Maybe include lens covers and make the holster an add on option? Either way I love the scope. It doesn't go very far, but for the compact size and weight these are perfect for what I need. Especially for the price, if it does get damaged it is easy to replace. I have no hesitation to let kids and friends use this. Pretty good Amazon find. Overall I think the company is doing great. Fast shipping, and emails are appreciated. Sometimes the other companies don’t even notice you purchased anything. I will make the effort to buy from them again if they have what I need. ... show more

  • Highly recommended. Add it to your EDC.
As far as the device itself is concerned: I feel the build quality is excellent (especially at the price point). The materials seem to be very durable, ergonomically comfortable, and weather and perspiration resistant. The rubber "armour" with raised nubs feels good in the hand and provides good purchase (good grip)- just like the handle of a well made knife should feel. The focusing ring can be operated with one hand... the same hand you are holding it with, while viewing the object you are focusing on- this is a very important operational feature for me. It provides the ability to view and turn the focusing ring simultaneously (with the same hand). It also allows the user to be discreet if viewing people- unlike using a binocular with two hands. The friction/pressure required to turn the focusing ring with just two fingers, the thumb and index finger, is just right. It can easily be turned but still hard enough to stay where you adjust it and not move inadvertantly. I do like the rubber extensions on both the front glass and the eye piece glass. On the front, the rubber serves as protection from scratching the lens and so too, the eye piece rubber protects the lens as well as allowing the monocular to be used with eyeglasses or sunglasses on without scratching the eyeglass lens. I do suggest a small design change. I feel that the eye piece rubber extensions should be able to be folded down (retractable) for naked eye use and flipped up for eyeglass users. Yours cannot do that. I agree that the magnification provided is a good compromise between viewing far away objects while minimizing telescopic "shake" for a handheld (non-tripod) mounted telescope (monocular). The image quality captured through the Roxant is quite acceptable, fairly bright and crisp considering, again, the price point. I'm assuming that you are targeting the recreational user (as opposed to a professional) with the mini/micro design that, by definition has some compromises. Again, the small size is a great compromise for one that wants a small, lightweight telescopic devise that's always handy to be carried around yet offers a decent viewing image. The best monocular is the one that you have with you when you need it. Speaking of always having it handy... I do like the choices available to carry it with you: neck lanyard provided, small cardura belt case or even, since it's so small- right in your pocket (be careful not to scratch it it get dust on it in the pocket). Regarding the belt loop case... The Velcro patch could be a little more substantial. One does not want to worry about the case flap opening when wearing it in your belt and engaging in vigorous activities such as hiking, biking, or fishing. However, at this price point, providing a case and a neck lanyard are welcome options. The microfiber cleaning cloth is also a welcome accessory for a low priced monocular. ... show more

  • ROXANT Scope, Let's Set the Record Straight
Received mine today and my first impression about the build quality, slightly less than I was anticipating. I expected it to be plastic feeling and light but keep reading. When it comes to specifications and stats, Amazon is absolutely abhorrent about posting accurate product weights/dimensions/etc. and that's if they post any specifications at all. I've seen the ROXANT listed anywhere from 4.8oz to 2.8oz. The actual product weight: 1.4oz or 40 grams. The little pocket case is .4oz or 13 grams and it's feather light. The size of the scope was very close to anticipated. Knowing that it had a 18mm objective lens I figured the body would be about 25mm. The actual diameter is 27.5mm, pretty close. Amazon lists it at 1.5" (substantially larger than actual). The length, as anticipated, was also way shorter than the advertised 5". The actual dimensions are 75 x 27.5mm or 3" x 1.1" (not 4 x 5 x 1.5 inches as advertised) and even the box dimensions weren't that big. I'm an optics guy and own multi-thousand dollar binoculars & spotting scopes from Nikon, Swarovski, Leica and Zeiss, and a few monoculars costing substantially less but of reasonable quality. One very decent optic is the Vortex Solo 8x25 at about $50. I rate the Solo about a 7.5 out of 10 optically! I was expecting less optically out of the ROXANT and was guessing it would probably be about a 5, however It's closer to a 3.5 out of 10 for me. The view is actually reasonable for the price but $19 doesn't really get you a whole lot. The view is just kind of soft in the center and gets worse toward the edge of the FOV, becoming really noticeable about 40% from center to edge. Yes, the magnification does allow one to see more detail but I wouldn't say it's an enjoyable or comfortable view. It's a strained view which by its 7x nature, is able to provide more detail than the naked eye. With that said, I was able to identify a Southwest Airliner's paint scheme and see that it was a 737-300 at an altitude of about 12,000 feet and I'm able to read license plates about 60-80 yards in daylight if I steady myself against an car or tree. It allows for the identification of common birds and other objects but it's not a sharp or satisfying view, more of a labored view. Some negative reviews stated that the ROXANT "is not 7x magnification and is perhaps 2x at the most." This is absolutely incorrect and posted by people who likely have no familiarity or understanding of optics. I measured the magnification at about 6.4x based off of measurements with my naked eye. In other words, objects viewed through the scope were 6.4x larger than in my opposite eye and I have little doubt that the ocular lens is an inexpensive, industry 7x eyepiece. The objective lens size is very close to 18mm, as advertised. It has a somewhat decent lens coatings on the objective, which surprised me at this price point. I rate the ROXANT 3 stars because "it's okay" for the money. For about $50 the Vortex solo 8x25 is significantly better, both in build quality and optics/view, albeit in a slightly larger format. This scope boarders on being toy-like but if you don't own other optics and/or don't plan on comparing it to other similarly sized optics in the $50-75 range, then you might be perfectly pleased for $19. I personally wouldn't spend $1 more but feel that this scope is probably priced pretty close to what it should be. ... show more
