I had to do some "rigging" to mount the stanchions, but that's just to be expected. All of our miter saws have different base plates, some are on stands, mine's on a folding, rolling cart stand, etc. It didn't take much thought or work to get it attached, properly aligned and "pitched" (like a mini tent) over my saw. I have invested considerable expense and energy creating a fairly unique wood dust collection beam/network. I have put this item off, as a CRITICAL component, far longer than I should have. Particularly since I love woodwork and furniture building, but am very allergic to most tree species, esp. pine, oak, cedar, redwood....you know, everything we make fine dust out of, all the time. Brutal reality that requires a lot more than Shop Vac "dust collection." We all know miter saws make a TON of dust, much of which never even makes it into the built-in vac hose attachment. This is the much better option. And is very well built, in WA State, U.S.A. I know there are $90 knockoffs out there but, if you're like me and want to support well-made domestic products (not just junk that happens to be made here, but quality USA-made products), then do what I did and bite the bullet and buy the one you know you should and will be much happier with, in the end. I think it was only 4 wing nuts to install on my 12" HF miter saw and stand. I don't think you can collect all the fugitive dust at a miter saw but this tent makes it almost totally clean. There is an extra about 4" flap inside that catches dust circulating up from the dust tube on the saw itself. I am very glad I got this. I delayed too long. ... show more

I really like this DC hood. I have a 12" Dewalt SCMS that replaced a 10" Bosch. The 12" wouldn't fit on my previous benchtop (too shallow) so I bought a stand for the Dewalt. Dust became an issue. I am using a smaller vac and installed a 4" (I/D) to 2 1/4" (I/D) Vacuum Tool Port Adapter (photo). I also installed a 90 degree elbow on the saw's vacuum outlet to direct the dust down toward the hood's 4" vacuum port. Otherwise it shoots it straight back and the dust sticks to the plastic hood. Assembly took a little effort to understand the directions but it only took 45 minutes. ... show more

It works and although the rigged up sheet did too, this does at least catch 90% for guiding down to the vac. However my vac has tried sucking it all in. Had to put something in to keephole open to make it not try to let the vac eat the cover as well ad weigh down the vac hose soit didn’t take of to eat the cover. So with a little fangeli magic… it is worth the money. Just wish it contained all. ... show more

The overall quality seems really good. However, I was missing the 4 Stanchions/brackets that it was supposed to come with. It’s impossible to install without all the parts! It would be nice if the seller could send me those without having to deal with the hassle of returning everything.

I do a lot of new construction kitchen installations. I do not utilize a vacuum system, so this has almost completely removed my dust from the miter saw. You can run your cord or a vacuum hose through the hole in the bottom of the tent and my Dewalt saw can swing inside the tent with no problem. Only complaint is the arms that hold the tent up are a little weird and the wing nuts come undone if they aren't tightened when the saw is bouncing around in the truck. I think if I switch out the hardware with some locking nuts this will be a non-issue. I have never used the fast cap hood, so I cannot compare, but I am very pleased with the product. Less cleanup and I find I am not coughing up a lung at the end of a job. ... show more

My Ryobi 10" sliding compound mitre saw has always been the worst dust offender in my small garage shop and I'd been thinking for years about how to fix it. The saw is mounted in the middle of the shop on a large workbench, so building an enormous wood enclosure around it, even a removable one, was never practical. It occurred to me to build something like a foldable cloth canopy, and luckily I saw this before trying that myself. They include plenty of hardware for all kinds of mounts, although I'd be wary of Dr. Seuss-style daisy-chains of brackets and bolts. Mounting turned out to be easy for me, as I could just fasten the main supports directly with two bolts in the bench top: Done. The instructions say there's really no wrong way to mount it and they're right. The improvement was immediate. Even with no vacuum attached, this thing turned the saw into the most dust-free tool in the shop, at least for the larger particles. The canopy is collapsible from behind, which works out perfectly for getting it out of the way of a router station when I need it. My only complaint, and the only reason I didn't give 5 stars, is with the design of the chute leading to the 4" inch fitting, which is more elongated than what's shown on the product page. Without intervention, my modest 750 CFM dust collector sucks the excess fabric into the fitting and effectively seals it, even when I decrease the suction. I have to stuff a 12-inch length of 4" PVC into the throat to keep it open. At this price point a rigid collar sewn into the throat would have been nice. As others have said, even when the air flow is unobstructed, wood chips accumulate inside the canopy, but that's OK. It's no problem to shake the bigger stuff down the chute later. The main point of dust collection is to keep the fine particles out of your lungs and the rest at least trapped in one place, and this product succeeds, with only minor intervention.
