I am adding to my original review: the second sets of seeds we bought from the store started off wonderfully, but withered and died shortly after. I still love the idea of this mini terrarium but now wonder if it’s the “ soil” that does not allow the roots and plant to fully grow ??! A fun idea and activity - sadly our seeds didn’t even sprout. We had to go to the store two weeks later seeing that there was no hope of plants sprouting to buy more seeds. We are having better luck now. We definitely can see the roots forming !

Okay, so I definitely ordered this to do with my 4 year old, though it quickly became evident it was just as much for me as it was for him. I am pretty sure I like it more than my son does HAHA. But the product came packaged well, it was easy and fun to set up. My son loved all the stickers that came with it and had a blast decorating the container. My advice would be to let your little decorate the container before you put the stuff in it despite the instructions saying to do so after. But we followed the instructions, I placed the container up on my kitchen window ledge and within about 3 days we saw sprouts! The seeds grew very quickly and it was so cool to see the roots through the container and how they wrap around the bottom. It is easy to keep up on as it just needs a few squirts of water at a time. A second benefit of this project is that my son under supervision gets to practice using his scissors and "mowing" the grass, which he sure thinks is pretty cool

The concept is really fun, especially for kids. However, the bottom part keeps falling off every time you pick it up, which is inconvenient. Considering this product is meant for children who will often grab the pot, it would be better if the design was more sturdy.

i just got thisroot viewer today so i dont know how well the seeds will grow as well as the roots to view. me and my 7 year old son did this little project together and it was easy enough for him to do most of it on his own. it came in three different pieces to put together and all you really need is some common sense to know where everything goes, but the directions are very simple if needed also. it comes with everything you need, a sheet of cute stickers that have a garden vibe, the root viewer dome, a stand that drains excess water out, two packets of cilantro seeds, and two disks of soil... which swells to the perfect amount of soil after 30 min. in warm water to fill up your root viewer dome. this was the perfect little summer project for me and my son to enjoy.

Purchased this set in July as a Christmas present for my daughter. We had to celebrate early so just opened it yesterday. Today we went to plant our seeds and my 4 year old was SO disappointed when we opened her spring onion seeds and the package was completely empty. I’d plan on buying your own seeds if you’re purchasing as a gift, just in case.
