  • The BEST diy where everything fits seamlessly
I love Rolife because of how easy they make these detailed scenes! They include EVERYTHING except scissors and the end result is the best. I can’t wait till they come out with even more! Personally I’d love to see an ice cream shop or a more elaborate candy store than some of the other diys have out there. ... show more

  • Easy and a lot of
I have done many of this type of craft. They have made it almost too easy now. It use to be frustrating but still fun. Very enjoyable to do.

  • What a fun kit!
This kit comes with a plastic pair of tweezers and a screwdriver. The sheets for this are thin wood sheets, which means that the pieces can potentially break or splinter when being removed from the sheets. Just take care and do it slowly. Using a razor knife to gently (and carefully!) cut the connections where the pieces attach to the wood sheets can help. This is the "dollhouse" style kit, which just means it is more complex and has more pieces as well as different types of pieces. Everything is very neatly packaged in here, and there is a LOT of it! There will be direct-glue rather than tab fastenings on this type of kit (although there can be the odd one with tabs occasionally as well). Also meaning? There will be a LOT of gluing and waiting for things to dry! This all being said, I do keep my own miniature tool kit for doing dollhouse kits like this one. My kit contains: fabric scissors/embroidery scissors, a needle, thread, paper scissors, a razor knife, screwdrivers, a small saw, a mallet hammer, paper squeegee with a felt side, wood putty, an awl, needle nose pliers, pliers, wire cutters, small/medium/large clamps, extra glues (both white and clear), various metal files (different types/sizes), paint brushes, glue brushes, metal pointed tweezers, metal slanted tweezers, sandpaper/nail files, rulers, clear tape, etc. That mostly covers it. I have found each of these things useful at times when making the dollhouse style kits (you generally do not need as much extra with the more simple "book nook" style kits). I also keep a set of various colors thin-tip markers to touch up where wood slivers have come off of items, AND on occasion I've had to dip into my acrylic paints as well. I enjoy doing these and do them a lot, hence the tools! The instruction booklet is on plain paper in full color with drawings. Drawings at times can make it more difficult to see what is going on depending on the colors (dark colors are worse). This was a good manual though! There's also an "Icon Illustration" sheet enclosed explaining what the different icons mean, and a little booklet of "Product Safety Instructions" as well. So - I don't really consider these types of kits to be beginner kits. I would not buy this for someone who is just starting this hobby, or someone I WANT to start this hobby. It's difficult (by that I mean a lot of small parts!) and might need some additional tools to get going. There's also a lot of paper craft involved in this type of kit. I would, however, think this is a great price for this kit to give to someone already involved in making kits like these! They would probably love it in my opinion - there's just so much to do, and so much going on in this little "restaurant". Overall I love the price for a kit of this quality. I love that it will take some time (this type of kit with this kind of detail will take over 24 hours to do on average in my experience doing them). To me that makes it a fantastic deal and a wonderful gift for someone who likes kits like these. HIGHLY, highly recommend! ... show more

  • Nicely made building kit, good instructions.
This is a nicely thought out kit, the instructions are good and easy to understand. You don't need to have any experience building kits to be successful, just patience and attention to the details. This kit comes with some double stick tape for mounting things like the signs and pictures, as well as some sand paper and a pair of plastic tweezers. You will need to provide your own hobby knife and a pair of scissors. The tongue and groove joints between the larger pieces are a friction fit, if you want to glue them you need to provide your own glue and applicators. They don't need to be glued, but it will make the structure more solid and stable. I recommend putting a small dollop of glue on the hidden inside corner of the joints after assembly if possible. This will tie the joint together without making a mess and will keep things stable for the next step. The instructions will tell you what parts you need for that step and what bag to find them in. The instructions start you off easy with a simple cabinet build, and then building a few more of the free standing details. This gets you used to the techniques used by the kit designer before you get to the more complicated parts of the kit. This is a nice way of doing it and helps ensure success in the build. There are many fine details and accessories for the scene. As you are the builder, you can customize things to suit your vision as you go along. For example, I have paused in the build as I am thinking of using a different type of light fixture and need to find the type of lamp shade I want. You don't have to make these decisions as it comes with a nice lamp shade, but you can if you want. This is a very nice building kit, and so far has been an enjoyable build. ... show more

  • Very detailed, stress-free miniature kit
Rolife has been making fun miniature kits and they're now making some kits that are extremely stress-free, which almost feel like Lego sets with everything is ready. You no longer have to make a tea cup with a plastic bead and a piece of wire, but tiny cups are included in the kit. The instruction booklet is large and easy to see, and instructions are very simple and easy to follow mostly with pictures. Wooden pieces fit together very nicely. One of chair leg pieces broke while putting them together but I was able to glue it back together. The paper items---menus, signs, containers---are not just pre-cut but pre-folded. You can make a perfect tea container just by folding along the line. Only one LED light bulb in this kit but it's very bright. Connecting cables for the LED light bulb is very simple, and the container at the back of the cafe to store the battery case is very well designed. There's some space for the battery case to move inside the container (which is unavoidable since some cables need to be stored as well) so you need to use both hands to turn on/off the light. With this kit, anyone can make a cafe model that is shown in the box. It's a dumb-proof, stress-free miniature kit. ... show more
