  • Very hard but very entertaining!
Color: Dora's Loft
I just started building this. It is my first miniature set. I am looking forward to continuing the build. It is a lot more complicated than I expected and very detailed, but I like that sort of thing. Instructions seem like they may have been translated from another language so some may be a little confusing, but not impossible. Overall I would buy again! ... show more

  • Great Pandemic Project for a Patient Person
Color: Sam's Study
This is a great pandemic project if you have free time. I made this over a two month period. Each step took two to three times as long as I thought it would. This project gave me the feeling of accomplishing something for the day as I finished each piece. This kit is very clever and someone’s labor of love. Mine had all the pieces. There were a few very slightly warped wooden pieces but nothing that was a problem. I was concerned about whether there would be enough glue so I used my own Elmer’s Glue All to make all the paper, and paper and wood books. I was glad I did this. There are a lot of books! I think the Elmer’s Glue was easier to use anyway for paper. The project glue in my kit was very good with the wood and metal parts, as well as paper, and did not have a smell. I also was very glad I had a small desktop battery operated OttLite with a magnifier on it. Here are my recommendations. 1. Read through the whole instruction book carefully before you begin. 2. Make the wood and paper books first thing while you are enthusiastic. This would have been a drag at the end. 3. Do not make the first large bookcase in the instructions first. It is the most complicated. Instead begin with an easy one like cabinet 5. 4. Verify the parts for each piece with the part number illustration papers. Very important. Also, it may have guide marks you need to make on the wood. 5. Fit the pieces together before gluing to figure out where to put the glue and to be sure you’ve got it right. 6. This project takes a LOT of patience. 7. If you are not patient, or if you are a perfectionist (this is not perfect), or if it bothers you it is made of wood, paper and cloth do not buy this. 8. Do not buy this for a child. Even at 14 I think the child would get very frustrated and perhaps lose interest due to how much work is involved. 9. The paint will not give you a solid white wall. It will look a bit rustic. I tried artists’ tube acrylic white paint and it did not work either. I finally used artists’ white gesso but I don’t recommend buying it if you don’t have any. 10. The kit comes in a great box for storing the project parts. 11. The lamp! It will work if you put it together right. I just didn’t have the skill. I would say it takes a person experienced with doing this kind of thing. I read the instructions many times and examined parts and tried very hard. I ended up cutting off the wires and just fabricating the lamp which was hard enough. I spend 9 hours over three days. I glued it in place. Once I had the bookcases filled, I thought it didn’t look good – too large for the scale and very busy. So I removed it. 12. The end product is very cute. ... show more

  • A lot of small pieces
Color: Sam's Study
DiY Library. Very cute. A lot of different pieces. You don't have to build all the furniture. It's actually whatever you want to build. If you build all the furniture it is a packed room and you have to build more books to fill all of the shelves. There are several different ways to set this up. I wish I would have known this in the beginning. My husband helped build alot of these pieces for me. The books are basically little square pieces of wood various sizes and you cut and glue the paper templates on them. I actually had scrap pieces of material that I made some covers out of and used some extra jewelry and button pieces to make accent pieces on the books. I also used spray paint for the walls and the floor. You can completely customize this to however you like. This is a perfect rainy day project and I absolutely adore this piece. It is very time consuming and tedious, but once you finish, it's well worth it. ... show more

  • Family and friends will gawk at your creation!
Color: Simon's Coffee
Firstly, my name is Mike and this is the third Rolife DIY Kit I've made. I started with Cat House (DG149), then built Happy Camper (DGM04), and just a week ago completed Simon`s Coffee (DG109). Of the three, this kit is the most complex and time consuming. If you have never built a Rolife DIY Kit before let me tell you my thoughts. First of all, the finished kit is much cuter that any picture can show. The small details are amazing. As far as building the creations go, let me assure you that the fit and finish of the kit is superb. The various pieces fit together with precision! The wooden pieces are cut with a laser and the paper pieces are drawn with one. If something does not fit, you have something wrong! All sounds good right....well there is a subject that is poorly done, unfortunately. That would be the instructions and `photos`. Each assembly is constructed and depicted individually. A parts list is included. But, as with many products from China, the usage of the English language is sometimes hard to follow. Fortunately, the use of written instructions is minimal. That leads the constructer to the photos. They are grainy and not very sharp. I found it hard to rely on the pictures because the details of the build was not obvious. Let me give you an example... lets say you are constructing a box. The wooden pieces are easy to locate and cut out. But, to make a box the `end` pieces are attached to the longer, front and rear pieces. But are the smaller pieces glued to the end or on top of the longer pieces?? Some people may not know how to do this....so here is where the detail of the photo comes in. This is definitely an area of these kits that could stand improvement. But, don't let this discourage you. If need be, construct the part without out glue and see what it looks like. After all, this shouldn't`t be easy and it makes you prouder when people comment on your creation. I hope someone found my opinions helpful. Be patient, be curious, and be understanding with yourself. Perfection, is hard to obtain. Mike ... show more

  • This kit is so easy to put together
Color: Becka's Baking House
I’ve put together a few diy miniature kits before but I’m really enjoying putting this one together. I don’t really like cutting out the small pieces but in this kit they came perforated. If you have arthritis you can do this kit. There are areas where you have to cut which is just the walls and floor. The glue that came with the kit isn’t that great so I suggest using a different one. This kit does come with spare parts just in case you mess up the perforated ones. Premade miniatures do come with this kit so you are not making everything by hand. ... show more
