  • well versed instrument

it is a present for my son. my son loves this piano and plays every day. he thoroughly loves the quality of this piano. it has all the solid basic feature working as expected. he is figuring out how to combine its usage with midi works - to do his own composition. he loves this piano thoroughly therefore I'm giving 5 stars ... show more

  • Action is great, the interface is terrible
Style: Modern
The RD-88 has a great action - good feel - heavy. After that, the rest of the unit is not very good. It seems like 3000 sounds would be incredible but it actually has very little variations of the bread and butter sounds which ironically are the most important. There is rudimentary editing, but the basic timbre/samples cannot be changed and you are pretty much left with what you bought. You can expand the sounds via libraries and some are available for a decent price. The interface is back to the 90's but it's actually worse. There's no rotary dial and it's screaming for one! All you have is INC and DEC. Try doing that for 3000 sounds. The knobs don't have fine adjust, so if you touch one, it jumps to the actual position which does not work well when you want to fade in a sound. The panel is confusing and the assignment of layers are painful in general. Mine developed a resonant peak in the speakers on certain notes so I can't turn the volume up. The patterns are not saved with the scene which make the entire point of having tons of patterns useless. Again try INC and DEC to find pattern 156 or 200!!!!! Overall not a good keyboard at all, but OK as a MIDI controller which is what I purchased it for. Verdict: good action, terrible interface and OK weight. ... show more

  • Great weight, great sound, great price
Style: Modern
The keyboard is wonderful. All of the features and sounds are Roland standard. The weighting is surprising given the overall weight of the keyboard. The internal speakers are a bit disappointing as they really only put out a little bit of sound. Great to be used in a on-stage or pit setting with adequate monitoring. ... show more

  • Really wanted to like it
Style: Modern
Super excited to try it. I play live and needed more sound options. I tested it out at home through my EV30M and it was very noisy. Loud "hiss". I have good cables. My Yamaha and Korg are super quiet. Plus I wasn't impressed with the concert piano sounds. Loved the EP sounds. Had to return it. Just my opinion, you might like it. ... show more

  • Reasonably priced stage piano
Style: Modern
Nice touch with ample sounds. Lightweight and compact. Roland’s software integration offers a great expandability!

  • Low volume
Style: Modern
The standard speaker volume is rather low, even at maximum. External powered speakers are probably required. Otherwise, stellar.
