  • Great quality for price point!
Size: DDP-100
I settled on the Donner DDP-100 model after reading several reviews for this and other models. I was slightly nervous because reviews were a bit mixed recently, but thought it would be worth the chance, considering our needs (2 beginners...really all 4 of us are at a pretty basic skill level). We have to travel an hour to find a good piano shop that has a decent inventory and the high-end brands didn't really have reviews that sounded all that much better compared to this one. Packaging: I will say that it came very well packaged: box was sturdy, pieces were securely fit in styrofoam, and each piece was individually wrapped in plastic to protect the finish. I assessed each piece for any signs of damage or defect and found only a small drip of glue on the front of the keyboard that is BARELY noticeable. Assembly: Again, reviews were mixed about how easy it is to get this assembled. Some swear it is a 2-person job, while others say one person can handle it. I was really nervous as I started to assemble the base because it didn't seem terribly sturdy initially. It took a bit to get it all screwed together. One of the caster inserts wasn't installed correctly and came out when I was trying to adjust a screw, but it was a very easy fix. Once the base was assembled, the whole unit felt more sturdy and it looked great. I was able to pick up the keyboard unit by myself and put it on the base without assistance. It took just a little bit of work to line everything up, so I could attach the keyboard to the base, but I'm pleased to say that yes, it is entirely possible for one person to assemble this without help. It took about 40 minutes to assemble and would have been less, had I not had the issue with the caster. Still, assembly was very easy and it looks great. There was just one little issue with one of the brackets that supports/connects the keyboard to the base being slightly lower that the others, so there is a visible gap, but the screw still was able to be secured at that corner and if I felt like it was a bigger deal, it wouldn't be hard to fix. Sound Quality/Playability: Other reviewers note that it takes a little more effort to push the keys than other pianos, but honestly...not that much. It was very easy to adjust to the resistance of the keys and I think it will be perfect to help strengthen the fingers of our beginners. My daughter (age 7) sat down right away and started playing with no problem. As for the sound quality, WOW! If you were listening with your eyes closed, it would be difficult to guess that you were listening to a digital piano. The quality of the sound is incredible! They keys feel great; the foot pedals are nice. Everything about this looks, feels and sounds beautiful. We haven't tried any of the additional hook-ups yet (audio in/out, usb jack, etc.), but I also don't foresee us needing to use them all that often. Overall: I'm so glad I went with my gut on this one. This is a wonderful digital piano and I am excited for my family to use it. ... show more

  • Very Nice Digital Piano Very Nice Digital Piano
Size: DDP-100
This is a very nice Digital Piano! Just to clarify up front, because it is a digital Piano it does not have the typical settings (organ, harpsichord, strings, etc.) settings that you might find on a standard keyboard, but the piano does sound very nice which you can hear in the short video. It has 2 speakers (about 6 inches each) underneath the main body that provide quite a big sound that is way more than enough for practicing at home. I've been playing with it for a couple of weeks now and have kept the volume less than half up and its plenty loud for playing with an acoustic guitar. However, there is a 1/4" output jack that can be used to run to a PA system or amplifier and still allows the speakers to play. I have plugged into my guitar amp a couple of times and it provides a very nice and clear sound coming through a 12 inch speaker. On the other hand, there are also 2 headphone jacks that bypass the speakers that I have used several times when I don't want to make noise. The weighted key are nice, but a little stiffer than most piano/key I've played. It makes it a little awkward at first, but it not terrible to get used to. I was also really impressed by the fact that I could get 3 pedals for sustain and damping like a real piano. Obviously, the pedals feel a little different than a real piano, but it was easy to get used to. There is an input in the back for sustain pedal, but the 3 pedals used a MIDI type connection on the bottom. So I didn't have a need to use it input on the back. There is also a 1/4" Audio In on the back for plugging a microphone that can play through the speakers, which is nice if you are playing a small event that just needs a little vocal boost. The only downside is the Audio in doesn't go through the Audio out, but I got around it but sending the sound through the Headphone jack. The only 2 ports I couldn't try out where the MIDI out and the MP3 in USB. My computer registered the MIDI out, but I don't have the right software to utilize it and my MP3 cord died on me. Last, but definitely not least, is the construction. It's made out of fiberboard, but is pretty solid and looks really nice with the artificial wood grain. Its visible in a couple of the pictures, but looks much more realistic in person. It came in a single box that weighed 49 kg (108 lbs!). My advice, get a friend to help you carry it inside. It came in pieces like Ikea furniture, but it took less than 30 minutes to put together. It also looks so much nicer and crisper than a keyboard with a standard X-frame. Overall, its a pretty nice digital piano, especial for younger kids or if you are just learning. ... show more

  • Good enough! Good enough!
Size: DDP-100
The product came well packaged with no damage. Certain parts feel a bit cheap but that's ok! For the price paid, this piano has been worth every penny at least thus far. Assembly was very straightforward despite no step by step instructions-- just a diagram showing how parts come together. It looks great, sounds great, and will suffice as a piano that is a step up from a keyboard while still representative of a real piano. Not the same as a real piano but pretty darn close. The piano rocks a bit when you play the keys hard (like a fast song) but mine is sitting on carpet. It may be more stable on a flat floor. Again for the price I anticipate issues to arise with time and more use but if it can just last a few years, I'd be quite content. Not bad for beginners but also good for those who just want a piano in the house for leisure play without the costs of tuning a piano each year or hassle of having to move/lug such a heavy piano. It's very light compared to a full blown piano. Highly recommend based on first impressions and it was more affordable than a similar Kawai or Yamaha digital piano. Does NOT come with the bench as pictured. Had to purchase that separately. ... show more

  • As a pianist, it’s not bad, maybe even great for this price point!
Size: DDP-100
Just received this piano and installed in my music school. I teach piano among other instruments, but am primarily a pianist. I purchased this to add to my group piano classroom because I thought the price for a digital with built in cabinet was fair and worth a try. I already use a Donner brand Bluetooth pedal for my accompanying jobs and have been extremely pleased with it. I like that there are no other instrument sounds as that is often distracting to students who are tempted to play around with all the buttons on most digital pianos. We use iPads during lessons, both for playing together and through apps using MIDI connections. I haven’t used the MIDI cable yet but anticipate there being no problem there. Will update when I do. I like that the piano has a wood finish instead of a plastic look like most other digitals have. It is heavy! Be prepared. I put it together by myself but would have liked to have another person with me. There were a couple times I was afraid I was going to drop the keyboard while connecting it to the cabinet. Not fun, just had to be extra careful. What I don’t like is the sound. It is very “digital” in sound. The speakers have a “canned” quality that I don’t care for. That said, I’m not performing on this piano so that’s not a huge deal breaker, just not ideal. A bigger issue for me is the balance of the keys. They are weighted which is a must for me, but while playing some keys sound louder than others, even after adjusting my own key strike. The ranges are not equally voiced for my liking and make it overall feel weird (don’t know a better way to describe it). The key feel, materials and grip, etc, is great. Much more like my Roland and Yamaha Arius, which I love both. The texture is more like a nice acoustic key instead of plastic. Maybe not quite as nice as the Roland, but definitely better than the other digitals I’ve tried from Yamaha and Casio in this price point. Overall, if you’re looking for a performance instrument, I don’t think this is it. For a beginner this is far and away better than most keyboards or even digital pianos in this price range. I would not recommend working beyond an intermediate level on this instrument due to some technique issues with digitals overall, not just this one, but it is definitely a decent instrument if you’re in the market and need to stay under $600. ... show more

  • Beautiful Digital Piano
Size: DDP-100
This review is for the Donner DDP-100 Digital Piano. What a beautiful and great sounding piano for the price! I purchased this basic, beginner piano for my grandson to practice on. It arrived quickly. I was a little concerned because the box had been damaged during shipping so I was hoping no damage would be done to the piano itself. Opened it up and all was fine. The Seller packs the box very well, thank goodness! I am a 65 year old woman and set the piano up myself in 40 minutes. There are no instructions, only one diagram, but it is pretty straightforward. The sound is nice, I love the weighted feel of the keys and it looks wonderful. Very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it for beginners or anyone who likes to play for their own enjoyment. ... show more

  • Beautiful sound, amazing quality, sturdy piano Beautiful sound, amazing quality, sturdy piano
Size: DDP-100
Sooo many positive things to say about this. I’ve been waiting for years to find a good quality digital piano without all the distractions and bells and whistles of the “keyboards” and such. Out of the box, this is Heavy!!! I did, in fact, open this and set it up all alone, and it was challenging, but not impossible. I’m 5’7, 220 lbs. some of the parts are very heavy (I think the total package was right over 100lbs). Once put together (took about 90 mins), I would say about an hour if you have two people, it is very sturdy. It’s quite remarkable, and the sound quality is extremely high. The volume, I rarely put above 70%. It sounds soooo similar to a nice upright piano. I have not used the USB and such. The sheet music holder is also designed well, and holds small few-sheet books and my large “300-page collection” books quite well with no issues. The pedals are all nicely implemented and it takes a few minutes to adapt to the sustain pedal, but it works well. For the price, the quality of the build, the sound and performance can’t be beat! **update** after several months, it sounds amazing and is responsive and so fun to play! Quality is holding up and still loving it! ... show more

  • Very nice for the price. Good sound quality. Very nice for the price. Good sound quality.
Size: DDP-100
I’ve played piano for 47 yrs and this suits me just fine to tinker around and have a little fun. I’ve owned two (used) baby grands throughout the course of time and found the upkeep and cost of moving to be absurd & too much fuss for the amount of enjoyment we got out of them. I was skeptical about the digital components but it sounds very good!! For this price point I have zero complaints. ... show more

  • Great Piano for the price! Great Piano for the price!
Size: DDP-100
I am an intermediate 58 year old piano player. I have a nice (expensive) Yamaha Clavinova piano at my primary residence. I wanted to buy a piano for my vacation home. I didn’t want to spend too much money for something I would only use occasionally and my guests would leave half filled wine glasses on and bang out “chopsticks” or “Heart & Soul” over and over. But I also didn’t want to buy a plastic keyboard to put in my recently remodeled living room. I looked through Craigslist for weeks and found mostly overpriced or trashed used pianos. I found this on Amazon and thoroughly read all the reviews. I decided to take the chance and buy it. The piano came packaged nicely. It was easy to assemble by myself, although it’s probably wiser and safer for two people to do it. I took off the plastic floor protectors and replaced them with felt to protect my wood floors. The piano itself looks pretty amazing for the price. It is a nice looking piece of furniture and blended well in the room. Does it play and sound like my Clavinova? No. I would compare it to driving a Toyota vs. a Mercedes. But as we all know, a Toyota is a great car!! The weighted keys are a tad bit heavy and spring back a little quickly but after 15-20 minutes you adjust to it. It’s actually good for building finger strength. A traIned ear will find it slightly tinny in the midrange, but not noticeably annoying. Overall I think it’s an excellent piano for the price. I have spent a good 8 hours on it so far, and I’m smiling the entire time! My family and friends think I’m joking when I tell them how much I paid for it. It looks very similar to a Yamaha CLP-525, but at a fraction of the cost. And because it’s digital, it’ll never need tuning! This is a great piano for beginners, intermediate, and even advanced players who just want to have fun. ... show more
