  • Fun build easy to read instructions and illustrations recommended
This was a pretty good build. The instructions and illustrations were very laid out and easy to understand. This was a very fun build to do. It has a music box. and lots of moving parks pay attention, especially to the gearing and where the parts are animated because if you don’t put it together right to the way, the illustration explains you’ll have issues, but I do highly recommend this build of a lot of fun ... show more

  • Beautiful as always
Beautiful as always, a bit small but lovely

  • So fun to build, great results!
Let me preface this by saying I’m in a ROKR FB group and have done several ROKR models. Basically, I love building ROKR kits. After building part of this one, I can safely say it’s going to result in something that works well and looks cool. ROKR makes excellent products. (I finished it and it works great.) As with all ROKR models, they include plenty of extra pins, retainers, and screws, plus spare parts for the ones most likely to break or get lost. In addition, they provided two different screwdrivers, wax, sandpaper, and an emery board. Things of note that are a bit less than ROKR typical quality: The first page shows how confusing these particular instructions can be to the inexperienced. Unlike most ROKR projects, this started with a bunch of gibberish about the electronics. Actual assembly, Step 1, doesn’t appear until halfway down the page. But you still need to test the electronics first, which is what this terrible layout is trying to tell you. Note: the sound is barely audible but will be better once installed. Once you test things, be careful, because unplugging the two tinier plugs is extremely dangerous. I suggest not snapping them all the way in to test, or leave them attached for the steps showing the PC board. They don’t need to be disconnected to assemble this, even though they tell you to do that. BTW, step 2 doesn’t appear until halfway down the next page. These random-located numbers don’t appear to make any sense in these instructions. Just follow the arrows from box to box. Many items don’t fit together as snugly as other ROKR models. I rarely use glue, but with this project, I had it out the entire time. And there are at least a dozen more items I probably should have glued. For example, the steps that lead to a back entrance fit so loosely they fall off if the model is bumped. I had to go back and glue these when I realized that. There is a total lack of consistency indicating the painted or embossed side of the parts. Rarely was it indicated on pieces where it actually made a difference. The wrong side is indicated in one of the very first instructions. There are times when two of the same numbered pieces are required and they show both but only identify one by number. The other is supposed to magically appear, I guess. No, they are side by side in the board and it’s easy to figure out. The point being that these types of errors are usually absent from ROKR sets. It’s surprising to see so many mistakes in the instructions. There is very little understandable guidance on how to run the wires as you progress through steps. A rat’s nest of red lines & arrows isn’t helpful, even when magnified. I hope this LED string is made well because it really gets a workout being threaded through this project. Throughout the project they never show where the actual LEDs should end up, they only show wires. This is a bit frustrating since you can’t go back and move them later. The indicator to remove the protective sheet on G pieces first appears in the fireplace fire. It’s red and doesn’t seem like it has anything to peel. But it does. Honestly, it looks more realistic with the sheet still on dispersing the light a bit more. I bet you can’t guess who made this mistake. Be sure to peel the coatings off the windows though. It’s odd that they use tiny machine screws in wood. That just means they can’t ever be tightened or they will strip. These should all have been tiny wood screws to avoid that. So be very careful when attaching the signs with these screws. Just turn until it feels snug, not tight. One other shortcoming of the instructions for this kit is how they point out the critical places you need to apply wax. They only point to the part that needs waxing but don’t say which part to wax. For instance, they point at a gear but don’t explain that you need to wax the surface of the gear, not just the teeth. One of my photos shows several examples of this in one page. Now that I have this assembled about 2/3 of the way, when I test the electronics, the music is easily 4x as loud as it was before this was assembled. The model acts as a speaker enclosure to amplify the sound. BTW, everything works perfectly at this point, including all the moving parts. This is really a fun build, in most ways. I did continue to use glue on various parts all the way to completion because parts were just too loose of a fit. In fact, the final piece is a lamppost which was the loosest part in the whole build and had to be glued just to stand up straight. This is all very surprising for a ROKR build. However, the problems are all easily resolved and the final product is as nice as any that I’ve done before this. The grandkids love this one because it even has music along with lights and movement. As far as wooden models go, I give this a solid 9 of 10. As far as ROKR models go, I’d say it’s more like a 7 of 10. In any case, a fun project for anyone about 14 or older IMO. ... show more

  • So much fun and great quality
This Happyduke DIY miniature house kit is such a fun and satisfying project! I really enjoyed watching all of the tiny individual pieces slowly come together to create a detailed miniature room. It’s definitely more than just a simple wooden puzzle—the decorating, assembling, and arranging of all the little details makes it feel like a complete craft project. The pieces are impressively detailed for something this small, and I love how much personality the finished miniature has. There are lots of little elements to work on, so it keeps you occupied for quite a while without feeling repetitive. It does require some patience and careful attention, especially when working with the smallest pieces, but that was part of what made it enjoyable for me. The instructions were helpful for figuring out where everything goes, and I found it easiest to take my time and complete the project section by section rather than trying to rush through it. This is the kind of kit that is perfect for putting on some music or a show and spending a relaxing evening crafting. Once completed, the miniature house is adorable enough to actually use as décor. It looks cute displayed on a bookshelf, desk, or craft shelf, and there are so many tiny details that people naturally want to look at it up close. Overall, I think this is a great kit for adults or older teens who enjoy miniatures, puzzles, model building, or hands-on crafts. It provides hours of entertainment, gives you a real sense of accomplishment when you finish, and leaves you with something cute to display afterward. It would also make a really fun and unique gift for someone who enjoys creative projects. ... show more
