  • The best PC I've ever owned, with one minor complaint
Style: i7-9750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
My Asus ROG g750jh was showing its age. After I bought that computer, which was extremely awesome for its time, I knew I could only stick with Asus computers. They're extremely good quality, hardy, and powerful. Now, my g750jh was uh.. a desktop replacer that weighed like fifteen pounds, so it was anything but portable. Six years later, while it was still running strong I had the money to get something else, so I did. I got this guy. I had been eyeing the ROG Zephyrus GX701 for a while now. The price made me cringe, but when I saw the black friday sale I hopped right on it. I now had the computer for a few days, and here's my verdict: For gaming, as well as standard everyday use, this thing is insanely powerful. Frankly, having access to such power in a PC is a little scary. For reference, in the simplest terms: I can run Minecraft with Ultra Shaders and x512 texture packs and it just doesn't hecking care. Still runs at like, 30-50 fps, depending on where I'm at. Now, I don't really play minecraft but I really wanted to see how far I could push the graphics card, and I was not disappointed. This thing is insanely fast. From shutdown to startup, it wakes up in less than 3 seconds. The size of this guy is nice, too. Yeah, it's a 17 inch laptop, but it's crazy thin and it feels super compact. I can sit down on the couch with it in my lap or fly with it and not worry about it being too heavy or cumbersome. The battery life is excellent, too. Lasts about four hours with my current settings, give or take. I haven't tried gaming without it being plugged in, though. This is a nice computer. The power of this thing, the compact nature of it, the DISPLAY (Oh god the display is amazing), and the little quirks like the volume nob are awesome. The one little complaint I have, though, is that this computer only has one headset jack - not a separate audio and headphone jack. I know this is a modern computer so I should expect it to be compact and all, but it forced me to have to buy a USB headset so I could actually talk to my friends. Not to say the computer doesn't come with its own microphone, but I'd rather not have to have my friends worry about the train going by a couple of blocks over. Still, I guess it makes sense for me to have to upgrade my headset into the 21st century, but I'm going to miss my old one since it obviously wasn't broken. All in all, awesome computer. ... show more

  • Solid gaming laptop
Style: i7-8750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
I waited 2 months to post a review to make sure there were no issues. So far the laptop has performed wonderfully. It can run any current game at max settings. The laptop is very well built. It did come with a lot of stickers on it, which peeled off fairly easily. If there are stickers on the fan area of your laptop, wait till it heats up and they will peel of much easier. The screen looks great and has thin bezels due to Asus removing the webcam and packing it separately. I didn't mind this feature as I don't have use for a webcam. To note, there is still a mic built into the monitor. I thought the keyboard placement would be weird but I actually don't mind it at all. It took about a day to get used to it and now I actually prefer it. I use a wireless mouse with the laptop, so I have no use for the track pad. I undervolted the CPU via throttlestop and also undervolted the GPU via a voltage curve on afterburner. My stable temps after an hour of so of gaming with the fans on balanced mode are about 80c on the cpu and 70c on the gpu which isn't bad for a laptop, especially considering how thin this one is. If you are curious on how to do this, just google "8750h throttlestop" and go from there. The fans do crank up to an audible "whoosh" after awhile but it doesn't bother me. Gaming laptops have come quite a ways. I definitely recommend the Zephyrus S in any configuration, solid laptop. ... show more

  • Too Many Issues - Not Ready for Prime Time
Style: i7-9750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
When I got this laptop, I tried using the HDMI output to play YouTube videos on an external monitor. The video and audio played on the laptop and on the external monitor only the audio played. The video was frozen. I called ASUS tech support twice and got no resulution to this issue. It still exists. Issue two involves the screen all of a sudden going from normal, full brightness to a screen dark in the center and brighter on the left and right sides. This issue has not been resolved. Issue three occured yesterday, I noticed that the plastic bezel surrounding the screen was bulging and separating from the screen. See the attached photo. Maybe this separation is related to the second issue. I wish I had contacted Amazon within the forst 30 days to request a return of this computer. I am now stuck with it and have to send it in for servicing to see if the numerous issues can be rectified. So much for quality control on a $3300 laptop. ... show more

  • Thinnest 17 inch laptop in the world, and with G-Sync too.
Style: i7-8750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
This is my first impression, will update as I get more time with it....... It just arrived 5 days early and it doesn't disappoint (thank you Amazon). The first thing that struck me was the high quality of both packaging and build. And It's very light in the hand for its screen size. The touch pad is on the right of the keyboard and doubles as the numeric pad. It feels narrow and awkward initially but becomes second nature after an hour or so (i'm right handed). But to be honest, whoever buys a 17" gaming laptop will definitely be using a mouse with it. I live in a dusty environment that plagued my old ROG G73JH but thankfully this laptop comes with 2 fans equipped with anti-dust technology. Under load they are audible in a quite room but once the game sound kicks in you won't notice them. The large screen, GPU and G-sync do drain battery life but thankfully Asus added a feature to disable all that at the touch of a button. (noticed many reviewers fail to mention that G-sync drains more battery life when comparing this laptop to a non-G-sync laptop like the MSI GS75 for example). will update tomorrow with gpu-z and 3dmark scores/screen shots ... show more

  • A Transportable Gaming System
Style: i7-8750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
My Zephyrus GX701 system came from Mobile Advance with a 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD with 16 GB RAM. RTX2080 MaxQ with 144hz of sweet G-Sync. Arrived on time as stated by the 2day shipping guaranteed. Unit is packaged by Asus with WINDOWS 10 PRO and its external 1080p webcam in box – Micro-USB Display – 17+” of Smooth 144hz refresh rate. Back lid made of aluminum, really thin plastic bezels with a 1” chin filled with NVIDIA’s stickers on the left. FINGERPRINT MAGNET Cooling vs Typing for GAMERS – I personally prefer the front keyboard layout rather than the traditional laptop ergonomics, as the purpose of the machine is extreme gaming with the able to quickly TRANSPORT. The perforated top was warm while gaming but did its job in keeping things cool. Asus aura RGB keyboard looks wonderful, although the software is lacking in customization and compatibility with other RGB devices. Chassis RGB lights can be optionally turned off as well. Keyboard feels good for typing, yet again – extreme gaming, I use both usb 3.0 interfaces on the right with another keyboard. Track\Num pad (FINGERPRINT MAGNET too) took a short time for me to get acquainted with using it to navigate Windows Pro. Noise – The Zephyrus uses the CPU fan mainly, while doing little tasks. Making the Zephyrus sounds and looks like any other Zen design ASUS. However, the two GPU fans kicks in when a game loads up and this thing comes alive. In comparison, this Zephyrus is much quieter than “classical” gaming laptops of early 2017. Interface – Lacking Thunderbolt and RJ45 port. At least there are two u.s.b gen-1 and one u.s.b gen-2. Speakers – There laptop speaker. Battery – Power brick is 19.5v barrel plug. 3.2 A . Supports USB PD. Disabling the Geforce and using the intel graphics, I could use the Zephyrus to watch YOUTUBE for a bit over 3 hours. However, with GeForce enabled the battery life from a full charge was less than 45 mins of G-SYNC, surfing the web. GAMING –On this 17” (1920 X 1080) METRO EXODUS played butter smooth with all settings maxed out, including the dreaded FPS killer DLSS and RTX. ANTHEM ( work in progress) runs uninterrupted maxed out graphics settings too, for now. ... show more

  • The Most Powerful (And Slimmest) Laptop Around
Style: i7-8750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
The day I received this beast of a machine was probably the best of my life. This was the first steps into great graphics, speedy response times, and ultimate gaming heaven for me when dealing with laptops. Personally, I've built my own custom rigs and had full blown setups with 3 monitors having high refresh rates, latest and greatest in graphics, and all the bang for your buck. HOWEVER! I joined the military and had to get rid of it all but I was in the market for something powerful but portable. After many hours of careful consideration from credible sources and great videos (Shoutout to LTT for the best review), I came across this beauty! Now, I've had a day to get used to the machine and set it up just the way I like it and without a shadow of doubt, this thing is as close to a full blown tower setup as you'll get. The smooth monitor, best in graphics for laptops, easy gliding keyboard, and software that help enhance the over all experience when using this beauty. Anybody who is looking into buying this and is unsure, trust me when I say that it's well worth the money and will not let you down. Thank you for this great laptop! ... show more

  • A few months in, and going strong!
Style: i7-8750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
(N.B.: I upgraded the RAM to 24GB.) I'd been waiting a long time to have a true gaming and development rig, and this one certainly fits the bill in both categories. The only noticeable slowdown I've had was with heavily-modded Minecraft, but even that was just the occasional hiccup. The ability to turn the touchpad into a numpad is a nice touch, but it can be a little awkward to use without the feedback of hitting actual keys. I've done some basic testing with Tensorflow, and it seems to work extremely well when you bind it to the GPU. The only complaint I have is that there's only one slot for additional RAM; it comes with 8GB pressed into the motherboard and an additional 8GB unit installed. This means you're a bit limited when it comes to boosting your RAM capacity, but its a minor speedbump in an otherwise perfectly smooth (thus far) ride. ... show more

  • G-SYNC is in the Armoury Crate Service 5/5 Stars
Style: i7-8750H | 1TB SSD | RTX 2080
This is a good gaming laptop when you finally figure out most of its features are in Armoury Crate then it functions pretty well. You will need to download the latest Armoury Crate from ASUS Website to get it to function properly its not a hassle you just need to uninstall your old one restart your computer then install the new one then the lighting should work properly. At first it would just stay in the rainbow effect when we just wanted a static red lighting to it which was achieved after the above was done. Also the G-SYNC feature is in ArmouryCrate as well you have to enable it in there, restart the computer then you should see G-SYNC available in the Nvidia Control Panel under G-SYNC like most other Nvidia Drivers for computers. Also its a really good Gaming Laptop for the price. Hope this helps people decide if they want one. ... show more
