  • Used with the right preamp, this mic is beautiful and crisp.
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
Ok so I was debating on this or the NTG-3. I was completely sold on the NTG-3, until I personally used the NTG-2. A lot of people say you can't tell the difference between mics until you compare. Well that is true, however a lot of people do not record the correct way and then sometimes good mics sound bad and bad mics sound good. I use this in conjunction with my Zoom H6 which has beautiful preamps. The sound is amazing. The quality is superb. I am super happy with this as I know how to use it 'correctly' and have gotten superior results over any other mic I've used in the past. I also use this with the RODE Blimp to cut out all wind noise. Used correctly, this can match the NTG3 quality and results. Save the money and buy this with the RODE Blimp and still save $100 ... show more

  • Can't Give It 5 Stars, Here's Why...
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
I went on Ebay and got an older-model Audio-Technica long shotgun that works amazingly well and a $25 Lyx Pro. Still, I had heard that Peter McKinnon and Curtis Judd use the NTG2 (at least sometimes). Rather than not get a warranty, I made sure to order directly from Amazon (and not Fulfilled by Amazon, which voids the warranty). Bought this brand new. I get it delivered and plug it up and there's an electrical hum when I use the microphone plugged into my Zoom F4 using AC power. This hum is not there while on batter power with the Zoom F4. Strange. Not even the cheap $25 shotgun from Lyx does that. I have other microphones from Rode (Broadcaster, smartLav+, Video MicMe) and they all work exceedingly well. I was quite taken aback when I realized I have an audio issue with this NTG2 mic. I love the quality of the microphone when there is no hum. It sounds pretty good. I will keep it at 3 stars until Rode return my inquiry and inform me if this is how the mic is or if there may be some defect/repair option available. ... show more

  • Very nice
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
I’m pretty new to pro audio and I don’t know much about editing audio beyond presets. This mic gives me crisp broadcast quality without needing to do anything really.

  • if one XLR pin is longer than the other 2, don't worry...
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
FYI: If you notice pin 1 on the mic is longer than the others, don't worry. This is a design feature of all or most XLR Rode mics. The following is from Rode's website: Why is one pin of the XLR connector longer than the other two? is this normal? Yes, this is perfectly normal and is a design feature of the RØDE microphone. The ground XLR pin (pin 1) is designed to be slightly longer than the other two pins. This is to ensure that when an XLR is plugged into the mic XLR socket the first pin that comes into contact is the ground pin. This feature is implemented in all RØDE microphones to protect the microphone circuitry from a static electricity short that could potentially damage the microphone circuitry. ... show more

  • A very good mic for film
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
A very good mic for film! Quality is extremely good! For those wanting to know about recording vocals for music with this mic.....That is a go! I tested it. But when you do please get the H4n zoom with it. You can set your recording levels so you don't go high with it. But yes you can use this a studio mic as well. Like I said, quality is very good! ... show more

  • Great shotgun focused mike forget r recoording.
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
Very nice directional mike. I can pick up a voice at normal room volume within 6-8 ft with minimal background noise. I first tried it a a dinner function with everyone at their table and others at the buffet. Fantastic focus. Super sensitive front and eliminates rear noise.

  • Watch out for the RF interference and be ready to use a LOT of hiss reduction
Color: Black Style: NTG2 Configuration: Microphone
When I first used this microphone, I noticed a constant buzzing sound in my recording and I thought the device was effective. The other microphone I used was a studio microphone and I never had this problem before. I use a Focusrite Clarett 4Pre USB with a balanced MOGAMI XLR to XLR cable. No other condenser mic I have have this issue. I eventually fixed the problem, the XLR cable was sitting on some AC wires causing the buzz. Additionally, the noise floor is pretty bad, there is a white hiss that I will always have to remove in Adobe Audition. Lacking a bit of high end too for my favor but the tonality is decent for a shotgun microphone. I have a proper room with fiberglass sound proofing for studio use and no other mic have this much hiss. It is also very low signal for a shotgun microphone IMO. ... show more
