  • I've done 50+ installs both professionally and for fun. I enjoy it and I also like doing ... I've done 50+ installs both professionally and for fun. I enjoy it and I also like doing ...
Style: Class D
SETUP: My setup for this install included this Rockford Fosgate R500X1D (620w RMS) amp and a single 10" Alpine Type R (4ohm) sub installed in an Atrend 10" (10SAL) box with .71 cubic feet of internal volume - just within spec (.50 - .75 cf) and light (relatively speaking). I was able to get an 8 gauge Kicker amp kit with interconnects (RCA cables) and got a PAC LOC (line output converter) so I could retain my factory 6.2" touch screen. I put Alpine SPS 610c (6.5" Type S speakers and tweeters) up front and Alpine 610 (6.5" speakers) in the rear doors. This was all installed in my '16 WRX. WHY THESE COMPONENTS? I didn't want to add a lot of weight and I wanted the cleanest bass I could get for the money. I've done 50+ installs both professionally and for fun. I enjoy it and I also like doing my own research and finding out what I think will be best instead of listening to "experts". It's more of a challenge for me. Will I add another amp for the component speakers? Yes, but later. For now I have mods to focus on and just need a decent sound. The factory speakers from Subaru were complete garbage but the head unit is good. AMP REVIEW: This amp is strong and hasn't shut down or overheated once. My old JL Slash amp was great but was sold with an old car and my Alpine pdx (1,000w amp) was sold last year before I bought my new car. I would say this amp stacks up very well to the PDX. It's surprisingly small but has plenty of power. I have the gain at 3. I have the bass boost at 1 and the bass is tight and fairly clean. Is it as responsive as the JL amps with JL subs? No. But does it hit hard and sound clean? Yes. Is it worth the money? Absolutely. It flat out performs and for under $130, it's a great deal. The reviews here say it all. This is a great amp. CONCLUSION: My total investment into this system was just $380 and the system sounds great. I listen to Trap mostly - lots of bass, lots of drops and lots of fast-paced hits - this amp handles all of that pretty well. I highly recommend this amp if you want a good sound for a great price. It really is the best one for the money in my opinion. If you are new to amps, look no further, this is the one you want. Rockford Fosgate has been around for a long time in this game and they have always made quality amps - this is no exception and may be the best "budget" amp ever made. ... show more

  • Good little amp with very bright lights!
Style: Class D
Before I give you my review, if you're not an experienced installer, do me a favor and educate yourself about amplier gains. It's not a volume control. Just because Joe Schmoe says he has his gain turned this way or that way, it should mean nothing to you because you don't have the same system. You don't know how many volts are being sent. There are just too many variables that you don't know. The gain is also not a bass boost. The remote knob on this prime is for gain, yet on punch amps the remote knob adjusts bass at 45Hz. This amp still has an adjustment for boost, but the adjustment is only on the amp. Ok, now on to the review. Nice and compact. At 4ohms its not running hot at all. As soon as I replace my sub I will update and let you know how it is at 2ohms. Oh, the birthsheet says 646 watts, but don't let other reviewers tell you that's at 4ohms. Its not. That's rated at 2ohms. Now, the lights. Both on the amp and the remote knob- way too bright. Love the blue color, but at night, ouch. You can't make any adjusments on the amp unless you cover the light because its blinding. On the plus side, it lights up the entire backseat floorboard. The remote knob produces so much glare on my side windows, I can't see out of them at night. This can all be fixed with either black tape or a sharpie marker so don't let that stop you from buying this amp. Final thoughts on this amp: for the price, you can't go wrong with this CEA compliant amp. It puts out rated power. Don't be suckered into amps boasting outrages max power. Educate yourself. I know I sound like I'm ranting, but I've been reading reviews on Subs and it blows my mind seeing all these reviews about "I have my gains on max" or my (insert name)amp is feeding this single sub 1500 watts. If half these claims were true, no one in America could sleep because every 5 mins there would another person driving by and rattling home windows all night long. ... show more

  • Should cost way more really.
Style: Class D
Nice amp, probably one of the best bang for the buck one you can find. If you have a moderate system and like good clean bass this is it, if you into the shake the neighborhood thing this won't be it. Install was straight forward, setup took some time to get it right where I wanted it, included remote knob is a nice feature, most other charge extra for one. Not running anything to fancy, just one 10 at 2ohms and the birth sheet said 635w, so what's not to love about a extra 135w, thats more overage than my stock "infinity system" JBL amp sent to the factory sub, paired with a pioneer shallow mount freeair 10 so not the ideal setup and the amp is double what the sub can handle so down the road I can upgrade or go with a harder hitting box, options and future upgrades are nice. Update 9-19 Stepped up to a much better sub, 12" ported box rated at 600rms, and this little amp makes it pound with ease, and it's a a very decent sub, I'm still blown away how good these amps are in this price range, about to replace my budget 4channel amp with the p400 4d next week and and can't wait to hear how much better it will sound, big kudos to RF for producing such a great product with a budget minded price, sure the punch line and higher ones have more features but for the one looking to get some good power without taking out a second mortgage these things rock. ... show more

  • Best amp for your money!
Style: Class D
I hope this review finds anyone that is looking for a good amp. This amp is simply the best bang for your buck. I previously had a Boss 1100 amp and it was okay... Nothing special about it. I had it for about a month or so but my car was new so I figured I would only put brand names. My boss amp broke after 2 weeks. I ended up going with this amp and I don't regret it one bit. I have it pushing an alpine type r 12inch and it's amazing. I have the gain set to about 5 or 6. I can definitely push it higher but I don 't like when the bass drowns out the music. And it rocks my 2017 honda accord sport. But don't get me wrong it shakes my entire car and mirrors. I have to turn it down sometimes, but it's nice to have all that power. You can tell a big difference between the bass on the boss amp compared to this. The boss amp was loud but mostly just pounding. It definetly wasn't producing the best bass but you get what you pay for. This hits all the frequencies and just sounds better overall. It's definitely worth the money. Don't make the mistake I made in getting the boss amp and stick with this. This definitely has enough power for 80 percent of the subs out there. The setup I have right now is a alpine 12 inch type r in a ported box, pac lp7 line out converter, with this amp. And it's amazing! ... show more

  • Rockford For the Win Rockford For the Win
Style: Class D
Birth sheet showed it as 653 watts RMS. In classic Rockford fashion, it delivers more power than its rated for. I've been using Rockford Fosgate since the 90's and they always deliver on quality. I ended up going with a Rockford 10" P2 4ohm with Dual Voice Coil, so I could wire it down to 2 ohms so I could make use of the amps full potential and throw plenty of power to the one 10". I used 4 gauge 100% pure copper, flexible welding wire for power and ground. I also used the "Install Gear" ANL fuse holder and went with a 60 amp fuse. This amp is incredible for the money. Especially since you also get the bass knob included. Some manufacturers don't include one, you have to buy it separate. I built a custom stealth box for the 10" sub in my 03 Chevy Trailblazer and it absolutely slams. The box in the pics doesn't have the carpet on it yet but you get the idea of what it's supposed to look like. The video sound may not be the greatest because the bass distorts the cell phone mic when recording but with headphones it may sound better. Get the amp... You'll be glad you did. ... show more

  • Rockford Fosgate delivers another great amp
Style: Class D
So far so good it supplies the needed power to my sub. And the birth sheet certified it for 651wrms, The only thing I don't much care for is the upward angle for the power and ground wires , the angle along with the allen wrench worm screws makes for a finicky time installing. Remember kids bass boost may sound good but can clip a signal and damage speakers or the amp so don't use it. And the gain is not a volume knob. It's used to match the voltage from the head unit to the voltage on the amp. And make sure to use at least 4 gauge wire. BASS ON ... show more

  • I'd recommend this amp. Its affordable, small format, and powerful; and gets the job done
Style: Class D
Picked up a '16 Mustang Convertible with the low-end Shaker 500 system. Sounded....umm, well, bad. Desperately needed some upgraded bass......at a minimum. There weren't many affordable plug-in-play options for the '16 convert, so I went another direction. I added a pair of 10 inch; Pioneer subs (TSW261S4 firing up) to an off-the-shelf $40 prefab box designed for Jeeps (Qpower). Then added 2-farad cap, Rockford Fosgate Prime (R500X1D) amp, an LOC from the passenger rear speaker. I then got that Ford enhancement rumble that I never wanted; coming through the 10s. It was really bad/obnoxious from about 900 RPM to about 1900 RPM. Apparently, Ford engineers thought is was a good idea to feed engine rumble through the car stereo and calls it & Active Noise Control. After reading the Mustang forum; I found the Active Noise Control mic in the map light panel and simply unplugged it. Problem solved. The Rockford Fosgate R500X1D came with a simple knob turn type remote gain control that's mounted under my dash. The remote knob has a blue light that is almost blinding bright at night. Also in the box was a spec sheet with Fosgate factory measurements. Apparently, my amp measured 616 watts at 4ohm at the factory. Running the amp with the Pioneer 10's wired in parallel (2ohm) puts plenty of bass back into the Mustang; completely fixing the Shaker 500 shortcomings. Most of the reviews said this amp was so powerful, gains needed to be set low. My experience: running (2) 10 inch in a sealed box (.98 cu ft/ea) needed to use everything this amp could give. My gain and boost are set to max, but no problems and no clipping. I'd recommend this amp. Its small and powerful; and gets the job done. ... show more

  • The best for your money
Style: Class D
I have been a RF fan since the early 90's. Restoring a car has brought me back to the brand. My last purchase was of the RF P1-2x12 enclosure along with this amp. Combined they put out amazing sound. The amp is small and easy to install. Very straight forward. I took it on a test run of about 10 min hitting hard and it wasn't even warm to the touch. My entire system is RF and this little amp puts out every bit of its stated power (came with a test sheet of 650w) It feels very solid and well made as all their products have to this point. Be forewarned! using this amp to push lower end speakers, cheap, poor quality junk will destroy them and possibly damage your amp. While this is a great value don't skimp on speakers, by what you know will handle the power. Just because you are replacing a cheap amp of the same power claim does not mean your speakers of the same name can handle this. Get quality speakers. This amp nearly drives me out of my car with the bass it produces and I have it driving speakers considered to be "barely" above entry level. Albeit they are sitting directly behind me. If you need 500w get this. Nothing else compares when it comes to output vs. value. ... show more
