Description
The ROBERTS 70-190 Super Felt Premium Underlayment is a 3 mm thick insulating underlayment made to reduce noise and help cushion flooring. By absorbing noise instead of deflecting it, super felt provides a deep, rich sound. This felt underlayment is made from recycled fibers and compressed using a high heat manufacturing process. The film overlay protects engineered and laminate flooring from any moisture from the subfloor and includes an adhesive strip and 1-3/4 in. overlap for linking multiple rolls.

I purchased 3 rolls of this product which, strangely, came in two different shipments. One of the rolls was packaged in a cardboard shipping box, the other two were just rolled in sturdy plastic bags. The product seemed the same in all three rolls. My master bedroom has plywood floors that were exposed to the elements for quite some time before the roof went on. As a result, the edges where the plywood decking sheets meet do not blend smoothly. No amount of hammering or sanding was going to help. It was not really noticeable under the carpet for the last 35 years, but I recently installed a laminate floor. In the areas where the transitions were particularly bad, I feathered in some tar paper. I laid this product one strip at a time to avoid tearing the plastic, and then rolled out the next row when the flooring caught up to the underlayment. The adhesive strip was a nice feature which worked quite well to keep everything in place during the installation. Of course the dogs decided to go on a mad zinger right after I unrolled a section, and their claws tore up some of the plastic, but I just went ahead and installed over it and I don't think it really mattered. This underlayment seems to have deadened the cheap clicking sound of the laminate. It was simple for a 58 year old woman to install. My hands did hurt a bit cutting the product with scissors lengthwise to fit it in up against the wall for the last row, but I'm glad the felt is dense. I am satisfied with this product, the price/quality equation seemed favorable, it arrived in good condition, and was easy to install.

I love it. It lays flat, nicely and easily, and one just has to line-up the edges and use the attached double-sided tape to secure one row/run of this pad to the next row. Easy as that, and the final install does provide some comfort or passing, plus decent sound insulation. I am not an Installer or Contractor and therefore I am not able to compare-and-contrast this product to others that are available. All I can say is that this stuff was far better than a clear plastic product I used in another room (the other stuff came in a roll from one of the big-box stores). Now, let's talk about the ability to cut/trim this product, because you will read other reviews where people complained about the ability to cut it. Here is my experience - if you lay this out and you need to trim around a wall, for example, you might be tempted to pull out a utility knife and cut along the edge of the wall. That makes perfect sense. But, even with a new blade in my utility knife, I could not get an easy and clean sharp cut, especially in the green plastic coating/covering. BUT...I used a fairly standard pair of scissors (decent scissors!) and it cut nicely and with a clean line. It was not hard to cut with scissors, but my utility knife did not work as well. No big deal to me. I will certainly consider this product again for any future flooring.

I’m using this underlayment under my solid hardwood flooring. It has a felt underlay and plastic vapor barrier. That works well. I’ve used it before and I’m using it again. I don’t understand the people that say the plastic rips I’ve walked around on this section all day long, and nothing has happened to it, see picture. I guess if you have a pair of heavy work boots and you scuff your feet along, it might tear but most people don’t walk that way 😀

This is a great underlayment and we are very pleased with both the ease of installation and the performance! We used it for a nail down solid strand bamboo flooring on our main level (above a basement). The felt rolls out easily and lays flat. The adhesive strip provides good attachment to the adjacent felt, but can be repositioned if necessary. I am a bit surprised the other review reports the green plastic tore easily. I actually think this is a very good and strong film and we had no tears at all. We had to remove one row of boards with nails, and the film didn't even tear in that process. The finished floor feels very solid and quiet. I like that the fibers are recycled and would prefer this over any of the styrofoam underlayments. I recommend this product!

These rolls are a great price for a great product. I bought this and a larger size roll to do a floor with. They beat anything I found in stores or elsewhere online with padding and a vapor barrier. Once installed the floor went over it perfectly and it added almost the perfect amount of padding for my laminate flooring, maybe its a tad bit on the squishy side but that is just personal preference, not a dig at the product's quality. During installation this stuff stay put and I'm confident it will help keep the floors safe from moisture damage up from the slab. I'll be buying this every time I put down laminate flooring from now on.

The product is very good as it covered my ceramic tile, to put my laminate flooring down, It made the floor quiet and leveled the high and low spots. It is a bit hard to cut, but with a very sharp knife the job went well. My only problem was that I ordered 3 rolls at one time and Amazon decided to list them in 3 orders, 2 rolls came at one shipment and the 3rd roll came 3 days later, which held up my project, after calling customer service, the woman there just said they will all be there in 1 order, she lied to me because I asked her to confirm if that were the case and she said to wait and she came back confirming that it was all shipped and would arrive in one shipment. I feel that she was just trying to blow me off, so not to interfere with what she was doing.

I was installing engineered wood floor in my media room. It was carpet before and I wasn't too sure how "bright" the room was going to sound. I actually think it sounds better than before. The floor doesn't feel hard because it has some give when you step on it. I also think it helps control the echoes, while working in the room before the floor underlayment was installed the room was terible and I thought that the hardwood floor wasn't going to be much better, but too my suprise the room doesn't sound much diferent than a carpeted floor. Like others have said it is hard to cut, forget using a utility blade you need scissors, they work just fine except except for when the undelayment is already on the ground and your trying to use then next to the wall. Floor scissors would have solved that.
