I don’t use this for most carpet demo projects. However, it’s a game changer if you’re removing carpet from stairs. I start from the top. Cut a line. Pull. As I go down the stairs and I get to the lip of each stair, I simply use a hammer to dislodge the staples under the lip. Knocked out a 2 flight stairway in under 30 minutes (not including tack strips). It’s all good quality metal, that is thick and not hollow. Seems to be galvanized steel from looks and feel but I’m no metallurgist. No plastic or rubber pieces. Other similar tools cost slightly more and have handle grips and other things that will wear out and break or fall off over time. This is only designed for pulling large toll out carpeting. Which could be said for demolition or installation. I’ve only used it for demolition. Quick and easy to use and to learn to use. Best value in price for what you get. Specialty tool. ... show more

These things are great. Worked with two general contractors who actually had people on knees with a utility knife and pliers tearing out thousands of feet of carpet. They were amazed (apparently at my ability to do rudimentary research online) when I pulled a set of these out of my trailer, along with a Crain stand-up carpet cutter. Jeez, I'm not even in the carpet business and I know about these. Worth the price within one minute of pulling up glue-down or padded carpet. Well made, just be sure to RED locktite the nuts when you get them. Have four, lost a nut on one of them (minor inconvenience). Wide 4" width vs. 1/2" width on pliers reduces tear-out greatly. Nobody should work for somebody in the demo/carpet business who doesn't have these. ... show more

This definitely beats using a pair of pliers method. It works, I just wish the corners (that latch onto the carpet) of this weren't so sharp, as it tears the carpet easily. I suppose I could grind them down a little bit... I was, however, using this on commercial carpet that was glued down, so the stuff was pretty thin. This would work much better for pulling carpet in houses. Another thing that would of been a little more helpful, is the teeth that grabs onto the carpet would be a little wider, I think that would help out a lot for what I was using it for. For what it's worth...it's a carpet puller, and it works. A little tip...I also did trim the inside of the handle in the corners where it came out of the mold...be careful of that, it's very sharp. ... show more

I bought this kinda going of the reviews I do a lot of carpet and floor pulling for a business called SERVPRO. And let me say it works great! I normally have to struggle and kill my hands trying to find a spot to pull carpet/ vinyl and I’ve tried many thing. Cutting skits to grab onto as make shift handles and all type of other things. I started taking small chunks of carpet out ~8 x 8... but after working 5+ hours in 90* temps I finally went for the big kahuna and pulled up 14 x 18 piece and full body dragged it with the clamp out the house, through the garage (lots of 'pivoting and folding and groaning and swearing') and onto the driveway to be taken away. Yeah it can help you pull carpet up from the tack board, but it's REAL value comes in hauling huge swaths of material to other piles. If you've got more than 1,000 sq ft of carpet to pull (I had 1,200+) and want to do it yourself you don't NEED this, but you won't regret making the task as easy as possible with the help of it. ... show more
