This is the most important piece of fitness equipment I own. Little by little I've amassed everything I need for a home barre studio including the most expensive barre on the market (Fluidity). But without this mat at my age I really couldn't continue to do all the exercises in my beloved Callanetics routines that I need to keep myself in not just good shape, but functional shape. I find the standard yoga mats basically useless as they are so thin. I bought this mat 3 years before my hip replacement and I've since. had a knee done. You need good padding to get down on the floor with titanium joints. (Trust me on this!) This mat is kind to those joints and to my spine and I have no complaints. I do think that for exercises such as bird dogs where you are on your knees for a bit I am more comfortable with a knee pad on top of this due to it's excellent firm padding, but again, that's due to titanium which may not apply to you. If you are younger or without surgeries, this is all you need. Definitely all you need. Many people in the therapy world believe that after a certain age, the floor is your most important piece of equipment. I understood why after my knee when I hadn't been on the floor for months. I lay down and realized I couldn't remember the sequencing to get back up! Thank heavens I had used this mat or I don't know how I would have managed with all my failed tries. It is very important to get up and down off the floor regularly in case of falls and this mat facilitates that basic life function. I'm at the age where Physical Therapy is an ongoing necessity, not just something I do because I enjoy it. I get 90% of the therapy I need from the Callanetics and it provides the necessity to not just do floor exercises but to get up and down a couple of times per session. I don't ever want to get out that practice again. Getting up and down works your core and more importantly your agility. Don't be afraid in your first few weeks of PT at the lack of agility - which can be terrifyingly profound when you are out of practice. Use this mat, have a chair (and your phone!) nearby and get on with it. With the proper equipment, patience and a bit of faith in the process, you really can continue to work out and get stronger well into your golden years. You're gonna need this mat!!! PRO of this mat is that it is easier to pick up and lay down than a yoga mat. My sessions start in standing then I move to the floor on the mat for core work. I pick up and put the mat aside when I stand back up for legs then put it back down for hips and glutes then I pick it up again. This is easier to pick up, it almost folds itself and I just lean it on the wall. A floppy yoga mat would be discarded in a heap then need a bit of unfurling again. I don't use this mat for standing exercises, I don't need to and I don't know anyone that cannot do standing exercises on a normal floor - and I work in PT! PRO over a yoga mat is that it is a snap to wipe down if it needs it. In truth, it stays pretty darn clean and doesn't seem to pick up lint, dust or cat hairs. PRO over a yoga mat is that it is entirely supportive of joints and spine without being too soft. It is a firm support that works well for bridging and anything else you need to do. Before I was healed enough to get back on the floor and was using my bed for a mat I found the mattress too squishy. A mattress really doesn't support good form. This mat does. The vinyl surface makes it easier to move across without your clothing "velcro-ing" to it. So this is easier to pick up, put down, clean and, as far as I'm concerned, move across than a standard yoga mat while supporting any kind of Callanetics, Pilates or PT exercises. This exercise mat is the perfect size for someone who has had knee surgery and needs a mat for physical therapy. It's nice and thick, folds for storage and is a bit wider than other mats, giving the user a bit of 'roll-over' wiggle room when getting back up. Perfect mat for at home gymnastics! My daughter loves it and it really helps when she is hitting the floor from her bars. It is a softer impact, and it helps absorb some of the sound when she hits the floor. Easy to store folds up nicely. easy to clean.

I really like this mat. I use it strictly as an exercise mat (no tumbling) so can't comment on it for that. But for doing my exercises it works really well. Well made and comfortable with the right amount of stiffness for me. The only thing I am not super keen about is the Velcro tabs on the edges. I presume they are there to connect mats together. Not particularly in the way when used as a single mat but they can attach themselves to stuff. ... show more

This is by far the best exercise mat I have ever owned. It is super thick with high quality dense foam that holds its shape. The vinyl surface is durable and easy to clean. Being able to fold the mat for storage vs rolling it up like so many other mats, is a game changer.
