  • It does exactly what it's supposed to do
Style: Natural Gas, Indoor Installation Size: 7 GPM
We had this professionally installed a few months ago, and so far it just works. The single thing I don't like about it is shared with all currently available on demand heaters made today; they require electricity to run. The previous Bosch heater we had ran on a pilot light, and didn't require any electricity to run. What this means is if we lose power (very likely where we live), you have to hook up some sort of alternate power source to get hot water. We have both a gasoline & battery generator, so this isn't as onerous as it might be, but still annoys me. The only heaters that are available that'll run w/o electricity are those designed for camping where you start them manually. I want to take a star off for this, but since it's ubiquitous there doesn't seem to be a reason. ... show more

  • The return policy is nonexistent
Style: Natural Gas, Indoor Installation Size: 9 GPM
So to start off with this water heater Does not accept returns at the time that I’m posting. They Shipped mine with FedEx and I’ve had bad luck with that company. Luckily, it showed up in really good shape. The venting for the exhaust is really hard to find the right parts. The internal pipe needs to be metal for the non-condensing and it requires a special concentric vent I found some parts on a different website and each one of the connections is really expensive. I have mixed feelings about purchasing this because I didn’t know how expensive the entire process would be. The unit itself. Seems good and has great track record. I just didn’t like that the whole process is really difficult. If you want to go with this unit, I really don’t think it’s a bad unit. I just want you to be aware of the whole process. Also, another note is that it requires it to be plugged in so not only does it need gas, but it will also need electricity and also, you might want to upgrade your gas line to a three-quarter inch and gas valve to be able to give it the proper flow that It needs converting over from a tank water heater. ... show more

  • this sucker works great & doesn't break the bank
Style: Natural Gas, Indoor Installation Size: 11 GPM
We live in a climate that does not get real cold so I can't say how well it would operate in such a location. That said, we love this! Gives you hot water when you need it just like expected. We have wanted to go tankless for years but it was unaffordable in the past. This unit was the price of a high end conventional unit and so far has worked much better than the POS Rheem fancy expensive water heater ever did. We had to modify some stuff in our attic/roof for the right size venting to fit. Worth the time trouble & expense. Looking forward to having on demand hot water for years to come! ... show more

  • The RE160 Limitations Are Not Clearly Stated......................
Style: Natural Gas, Indoor Installation Size: 9 GPM
Two things which are not readily clear about the RE160: 1) On the RE140 and RE160 units, the temperature can ONLY be set to between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. There is NO WAY to lower the temperature. If you want to set the temperature to 110 or 115, you'll need to get the RE180. Stupidly, the builtin temperature control keypad has up and down arrows, but the down arrow does nothing. 2) The RE160 has a standard 120-volt plug. It does not have the option of hardwiring the unit.. There is no way to remove the built-in plug and bring my existing hardwire cables into the unit. Again, I assumed hardwiring was always an option (like on my old Rinnai R53 unit). But no. You'll note that these two issues ARE NOT shown on the big product feature matrix for Rinnai tankless products on Amazon. ... show more

  • Tankless Waterheater
Style: Propane, Indoor Installation Size: 9 GPM
This unit is very good. It was easy to install and came right up when power was turned on. The unit was preset to 120 degrees! I used 21” non condensing exhaust/vent kit and Matsui isolation valves. So far very happy. Customer support was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you Rinnai! ... show more

  • This unit's interior pipes can freeze above the -4 provided for in the warranty
Style: Natural Gas, Outdoor Installation Size: 11 GPM
Am now nearly a week without hot water after the unit's interior pipes froze and cracked during a recent Dallas, Tx freeze. The temps never declined below 11 degrees. According to the warranty that arrived with the unit, so long as the temps are above -4 when, Rinnai warrants the unit. Rinnai's warranty process involves quite a bit of back-and-forth before movement. The company's CSR's offer differing versions of solutions: 1.) don't call us, call your homeowner's insurance carrier; 2.) we don't warrant even at 11 degrees for interior pipe freeze breaks; 3.) one rep sent me a list of reasons why the limited warranty will not cover the unit, without first asking me what happened. What a nightmare, and a cold one to boot. Consider your alternatives. ... show more
