  • Interesting ...
Format: Kindle
Rideshare: The First Kill kept me tense, but I didn’t fully connect with it the way I hoped. The writing is sharp and atmospheric, and the inner thoughts of the main character are unsettling in a quiet, creeping way. One part that really stood out was the dinner scene with the mother-in-law, where nothing “happens” on the surface, yet the tension is thick and you can feel the character unraveling behind polite smiles and small talk. That slow psychological pressure was more disturbing than any outright violence. While the pacing and style were strong, I found myself a little emotionally distant from the characters, which kept the story from completely pulling me in. Still, it’s a solid psychological thriller with an eerie tone and some memorable moments. ... show more

  • A Creepy Tale of Vengeance
Format: Kindle
If you like horror stories and/or dark stories told from the bad guy's perspective, then this is the book for you. The main character, Lisa, is a woman who has been wronged in life and is now out for revenge. And, boy, does she get it. Taking place in Auckland, New Zealand, and Hong Kong, it seemed far-flung and exotic to this boring American. The descriptions of the cities are dark and foggy, which matches the book's tone. I'm glad after reading this that I live in the country and have never taken an Uber. At the same time, as someone who has worked my whole life in the service industry, I can relate to Lisa's feeling of being invisible. ... show more

  • Great read - but some formatting issues for Kindle
Format: Kindle
Rideshare is a rather scary, real feeling thriller that makes you really not want to use a ride-share again anytime soon! The protagonist has become 'invisible' at 50, and that makes her even more deadly and disturbing. A sign of the times I think, the only drawback is the formatting did not allow me to view it on my kindle - had to use my phone. It was worth it - but a note for people who prefer to use a kindle. ... show more

  • A killer ride.
Format: Kindle
Rideshare: The First Kill is an interesting and engaging story told from the perspective of a middle aged woman who has had it and snaps. What ensues is a dark chilling tale of revenge. If you enjoy your rage/serial killer stories with a bit of humor this is a book that you’ll probably want to check out. ... show more

  • Clever, Dark, and Unsettling
Format: Kindle
This book is a psychological thriller that flips the script in the most chilling way possible. The lead character is not your typical serial killer, invisible woman. Watching her switch from dissmissed by society, turning invisiblity into power, makes this book compeling. Shifting from simmering resentment to calculated action captivating and disturbing in equal measure. Full of psychological insight, dark humor, violence. This is a slow-burning rage, reinvention, and dangerous to the end. ... show more

  • Unusual murderer
Format: Kindle
Lisa is 50 years old. In a world where status, money, power, and youth are everything, she has none of these things. She is almost invisible; if she died tomorrow, no one would even notice. She does not despair over her fate, but wants to become even more invisible to others and see herself in a different light. Her solution is unusual: she decides to become a murderer. Written in the first person, although a negative character, she can find sympathy with the reader. Some readers will be bothered by the fact that she is not well-edited, but I think the author intentionally wanted to emphasize the unusualness of the whole atmosphere with such a text. Good idea, good execution. ... show more

  • Needs edited to be enjoyable.
Format: Kindle
The story concept exists, but repetition plagues it, and the formatting is nonexistent. Reading it on Kindle is difficult because of the lack of formatting. There are no paragraph breaks, and the sentences are repetitive. There is one section that is included twice, word for word. I don't think anyone edited this book, or if they did, the author should demand a refund from the editor. The story has potential, but the main characters' internal thoughts stretch the plot's substance too much to make this an enjoyable read. ... show more

  • Has strong potential
Format: Kindle
I really struggled with this one. It started off well and very interesting. Not long into it, though, I discovered that it was mostly description of events and not much dialogue. And I found that instead of typical fiction formatting, the chapters were one long block of text. No breaks for paragraphs and dialogue. So that made the read seem laborious at times. But I’m giving it four stars because I think there’s a good story here and, with some editorial help, could be quite a corker. ... show more
