Description

Since 2009, Blue Ribbon has been perfecting their proprietary composting techniques, turning nutritious food and yard residuals into Blue Ribbon Organic Compost. Recycled and processed at their DNR-permitted facility, these natural materials become a plant-loving, easy-to-handle mix. With food residuals as a key ingredient in the finished product, they achieve a rich nitrogen blend derived from all natural materials –nothing more, nothing less. After months of turning the compost with care, monitoring windrow temperatures, maintaining moisture, and taking all the necessary steps to create a quality and safe finished product, it is ready to help jump-start your vegetables, fruit trees, and shrubs... top-dress sections of your lawn... or start your hardiest crop of seedlings yet!Blue Ribbon Compost regenerates soil by improving aeration, increasing water retention, buffering pH, adding organic matter, and key nutrients including: nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. It is monitored for trace metals, unwanted pathogens, and compost maturity; and tested to ensure product is safe and free of weed seed.Additionally it meets US Composting Council “Seal of Approval” and Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) requirements and is certified for organic production, vegetable and flower gardening, use around trees and shrubs, and lawn application; all to ensure not only a quality product but a safe one!As this is a natural product, moisture content may vary which will cause some variation in the weight.

If you can get excited about a bag of dirt, this will be one to get excited over. It truly is black gold. Growing greens indoors with a grow light so we can have greens year round. No doubt, they will grow great with this compost in the mix.

  • Nice, rich, and dark compost
Style: Bag
The media could not be loaded. This compost looks nice, rich and dark. There were worms and bugs crawling throughout the compost, so that's a great sign. The cost is on the higher end for a smaller bag than expected (the bags are a nice size not small per se, just smaller than what I've seen at a big box store or my local nursery, for about half the price) but I am excited to see how my little garden thrives with this compost ! ... show more

  • VERY EXPENSIVE... BUT WORTH IT!
Style: Bag
I have a very large collection of Clivias, Orchids and Epiphyllums in CONTAINERS. Over the last few decades I have tried just about every bagged potting soil mix that has been produced. Almost all had problems, or were not worth the money. This Ribbon Organics Compost is outstanding! Very rich and easily moistened with NO smell. I use 1/2 of this, along with 1/4 perlite and 1/4 orchid bark for my potting mixture, and the combination is perfect to keep enough moisture in the mix, while still allowing air circulation. I've tried Miracle Grow mixtures several times - and each time there have been fungus gnats/eggs in their mixes, multiplying so fast the almost destroyed my collection - until I stopped watering for 2 weeks to completely dry out the soil, killing the live gnats and their eggs. I've also tried several brands of "acid soil mix" for the type of plants I have. A couple of those brands were 'allergic' to water. I could pour water into the pots 20 times - and the soil would not retain ANY water, remaining completely dry. So, while this product IS very expensive, it IS worth it to me. ... show more
