  • The Small-Venue cymbals that did! Live tested...and mostly approved!
Size: 7-pcs Groove Lite Small Venue Cymbals
This is a review on the Groove Lite small Venue pack of cymbals Background: With a few small indoor gigs coming up (the rooms around 50X60ft & 60X70 ft with around 60+ bodies in a brunch setup), this would be the smallest venue yet for me to play in. Some of my cymbal options in my arsenal seemed to carry significant overtones and I did not really enjoy the sound of too much tape on them. It kinda made it too dead. As is, I do play lightly, preferring 7A sticks and controlled playing, but this venue and the type of clients seemed to require something even more controlled. So, enters the Rhythm Bytes Groove Lite cymbal pack... The short answer was that this was an answer to prayer and did the job...especially combining them with some of my Paiste PST X cymbals (cymbals that have a slightly more controllable volume than other cymbals...and especially useful with cajon). But I must provide a long answer to explain detailing each cymbal he caveats: 1) 20" Dynamic Ride - this is my favorite cymbal out of the pack. It has a good clear ping with very minimized overtones. Thus, the audience that is especially close to the stage area will hear the cymbal strikes, but the diminished overtones will prevent it from building up volume. It also is a really decent crash cymbal 2) 14" Hihat pair - My second favorite cymbals from the pack. They are the crispest sounding hats I have. Very easy to distinguish the strikes even the doing fast patterns. The hihat sizzle is also excellent. However, note that this hihat, due to the holes, has a trasher articulation and hiss. So, when I do play traditional jazz standards, I go back to the 10" Stagg SH's for that lower volume but authentic hat sound. Aside from swing style jazz, these hats work well for latin stuff, pop stuff, rock stuff, especially funk, etc. 3) 18" China - I may have placed this in "3rd" but it's really on par with the ride cymbal. Crashing it, it certainly is a little more trashy, but it works well as an alternative ride cymbal. I perceived it as slightly lower in pitch. For this gig, I wanted to bring minimal cymbals, and so I actually had a harder time picking between the this and the 20". Ultimately, the style of crash that the 20" gave seemed to better fit the mood of the event. If I was to only ride though, I would have picked this one instead. 4) 16" & 18" crashes - These aren't anything to laugh at. They crash well and do well as accent pieces. But I did not use them because I wanted to be somewhat minimalist on my gear and preferred the full-bodied sound that the Paiste PST X swish splash, and Paiste PST Cajon crash. The PST volumes are easy to control if you practice dynamics and it doesn't take much to get a good crash out of them at low volumes. However, comparatively within this cymbal set, the china and the ride are still the best crashes. 5) the 10" splash - This is my one and only complaint in this set. It does not respond like a splash when you crash it...it lacks that "water quality". BUT it surprisingly works as a bell...and this is an important detail I'll discuss. NOTES: This are just some miscellaneous observations, good or bad. 1) These cymbals work best in a true acoustic-low volume gig. BUT they do shine when mic'ed and added to the mix. In my gig, we did do a standard overhead mic setup and it sounded great. 2) The cymbal bells don't really sound too good, but you can utilize the "splash" cymbal as a bell and get the effect of it if you ride it. 3) I have had a bad history with low volume cymbals. These are the first ones I actually liked for the most part. They are louder and meant to be heard compared to the low-volume practice variants. But not too loud. 4) They can make great trigger cymbals if you want to make a hybrid kit and the sticks rebound off of them nicely. I've played on them with normal sticks, rutes, and even the adoro silent sticks. It feels good. Conclusion The purchase was definitely worth it and these are good to keep on hand. They won't replace your fave cymbals, but they are excellent tools that feel and sound good when the gigging situation requires a more controlled volume. ... show more

  • Great cymbals pack
Size: 7-pcs Groove Lite Small Venue Cymbals
I'm very impressed with these cymbals. I expected them to sound like trash cans and pots. No, not these. You can use these cymbals to play in a show. I did put a heavier bottom hi hat cymbal on. That gave it some depth. The 10" cymbal could use a little more volume as well as the China. I also used the 14" bottom hat as a cash cymbal. But they are low volume cymbals. Now, I have many cymbal sets. However, they were a bit loud for what I'm doing. I will admit, the video that was made with the drummer got me interested. Good job with that. I thought it would just be a sound room fix. For the price, wow! I thought I got more for my money that time. Now, I'm looking at they're higher end cymbals they make. I could have bought some other brands with no volume and sound at all. I would recommend these to any beginner and anyone who can't afford the high end cymbals at the time. You should try this cymbal pack. I think you would be impressed with the sound and value of them. They also came on time and were well packaged. Nice!!! ... show more

  • Quiet, but that's it
Size: 5-pcs Low Volume Cymbal set - BLACK
They sound different than what I expected from the other reviews. Unlike other pruchasers, I think the hi-hats are the best sounding ones of the set. The crashes sounds metallic but pretty tinny and awful. The ride is dull. But after all, they are quiet, which is the whole point. Unlike that others have said, I'd NEVER use these for an actual gig. Not for public consumption, just to appease the ones you live with on the noise level - not for actual playing. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I’m pleased with the sound from the 10 16 18 22 and china . The hi hats are nice too but a bit light

The price is good if you don’t have any cymbals. But the quality is so poor. The sound is horrible. Do not believe in the video published.

  • Best Authentic Sounding Low Volume Cymbals
Size: 7-pcs Groove Lite Small Venue Cymbals
I am a pro drummer and these are the best authentic sounding low volume cymbals I've ever heard at a low price and an excellent variety cymbal pack. I watched several YouTube reviews of different brand low volume cymbals (including these) and even played the Zildjian L80 cymbals in the past and none compare to these for quality sound. These cymbals have crisp high frequency tones that cut through with short decay and seem to be durable. Highly recommend these over expensive famous brands ... show more
