  • Difficult to navigate and use
There's a HUGE amount of games in this little thing, just clicking through the list of games takes minutes, lol. I personally did not grow up with any of these games and mever played a Gameboy or similar, so this is all new to me. Maybe that's why I foukd it very difficult to use and understand how this game console works. I tried playing a few of the games but couldn't figure out the buttons etc, even if there's some (insufficient) help on the screen. I'd say only buy rjis gane if you already have experience of similar hand games, because this was pretty much impossible for me to understand. I will definitely have to keep trying to see if I can somehow play at least one of all the games at some point. So while it's difficult to navigate, the buttons are responsive and seem to work well. The screen is small but not much smaller than my phone, which I play games on just fine. It's a cheap little console so don't expect the greatest quality screen or feel, it's very plastic-y feeling as expected for the price. If you can figure out how to play games on it, I'm sure it's well worth $40 considering how many games yiu get for the price. This is probably fun on road trips or on flights. The sound can be turned off. Charges easily with the USB-C cord. ... show more

  • A fun system to relive the better generations of gaming
This is a fun game system, ready to rock all those retro games, right out of the box. It was partially charged, although I'd recommend doing a full charge on it after opening, to get a feel for how long it'll last. (The battery life seems great, depending on the complexity of the game, and can easily range from 4 hours for later generation systems, to over 6 for early generation systems). In addition to the system in the box, came a USB-C charging cable and screen protector. It's not glass, so it won't crack, which I appreciate. It's a great pocket-sized system, easy to slip into a bag or take on the road, so keeping it protected is a bonus. Game-wise, it comes with a huge variety of games for different systems. Games perform well once they load, but the system UI feels slow to boot and load games. There are a ton of games included, too, although some are mis-sorted, and a few of them feel glitchy, so if you already have a collection, I'd advise using it instead. My only concern is the quality of the hardware - the buttons occasionally stick, making games impossible to play correctly, and the USB charging port stopped working, although the OTG port still works to charge. Just something to keep in mind. With a little research online, it's easy to find updates and tweaks for the system, although I haven't applied any myself. I also appreciate the openness of the platform in allowing for these types of updates. ... show more

  • This is every gaming device and popular game ever created!
Love this device for an older kid! It has countless games on various gaming systems from ALL decades! It also includes some movies or small clips. There’s not a way to monitor games on the device but if you are fine with them playing anything I highly suggest this device! Also for elder millennials this game system is the best for downtime instead of doom scrolling! This is the ultimate gaming device for Christmas for most ages! I do not suggest the game for little kids because of the type of games in here but it sure does save you a lot of money buying this 1 device instead of multiple games in different systems! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ hands down! Amazing screen quality too! Very durable not waterproof! ... show more

  • Insane Number of Retro Games — Great Concept with a Few Quirks
Even though I had read the description, I was honestly shocked by how many games came loaded onto this device!! When I first turned it on, I couldn’t believe the selection—it seems to include retro games from just about every major gaming system, including a lot of the big names from systems like Nintendo, Sega, Game Boy, and more. The sheer number of options is kind of wild and definitely one of the coolest things about this console. The device itself has a really neat look and feels like a fun little throwback gadget. I also appreciated that it arrived already charged and ready to go right out of the box, which made it easy to start exploring immediately. That said, there are a few quirks. The interface can be a little slow, especially during startup, and it takes a bit of time to boot up. It also wasn’t immediately intuitive how to turn the system off, which felt a little strange. Once I got into the games, the emulation seemed fine overall, though gameplay can feel a little wonky at times. I think part of that is just the nature of trying to play retro console games on a small handheld device with slightly different controls than the originals—not every older game lends itself perfectly to this format. Interestingly, I almost found the novelty of having access to so many retro games more exciting than actually playing them for long periods of time. There’s something really satisfying about scrolling through all of the old favorites and remembering games you forgot even existed. I could especially see a kid who has never played these retro games being blown away by the huge selection. This could also be a nice alternative to more expensive gaming systems for a younger child or a good option if you’re trying to limit screen time a bit compared to an iPad. I could even see this being fun to keep in a waiting room, pediatric office, or doctor’s office as something different for kids to play with. Overall, I think this is a really fun idea with an impressive game library. I removed one star for the somewhat clunky interface and slightly awkward gameplay at times, but I still think it’s a neat little device for retro gaming fans or curious kids. ... show more

  • A blue blast from the past.
I'm thrilled with my experience using the R36S Retro Game Console. This compact device has a wonderful selection of classic games, making it an excellent way to relive fond memories or introduce younger generations to the joys of retro gaming. The console's 3.5-inch HD screen is crisp and clear, providing an immersive gaming experience that's perfect for playing old-school favorites like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and more. What I appreciate most about this product is its value proposition - it offers a great selection of games at an affordable price point. The R36S has excellent functionality, making it easy to navigate through menus and play your favorite titles. The units battery life allows for fairly lengthy playthrough sessions depending on the console selected. Whether you're looking to relive childhood memories or share the joy of retro gaming with younger family members, I highly recommend the R36S Retro Game Console. It's a fantastic way to experience the nostalgia and fun of classic games in a compact, portable package. ... show more

  • Genuine v21 R36S running ArkOS!
This thing is great! This is a genuine R36S console running on a v21 board. This device comes preloaded with the necessary software (ArkOS) to get your games (which should be sourced by you ultimately) up and running quickly with a little bit of technical knowhow. The device itself feels pretty solid. The plastic body is a beautiful translucent blue finish, harking back to the days of the 90's and early 2000's when high tech actually let you see what was going on inside. The device itself is relatively compact, which does mean the button layout is a bit cramped and ultimately can be a bit difficult for bigger hands. It's not the worst I've ever experienced, but it definitely takes a little adjusting if you're used to anything on the larger side. The screen is really the most surprising here, especially at this price point. It's surprisingly bright, the resolution is impressive, and the fact that it's an ips panel at this price point is astonishing. I would give it the highest of marks, but my device did arrive with a single dead pixel very near the center of the screen. Thankfully it's not a stuck-off pixel, so there's no random little black fleck, but it's a stuck-on state pixel, so it's usually just exceedingly bright on darker screens and once you notice it, it's hard not to. For colorful fast paced games though, it fades but it's still a bummer. The battery is alright. Mine needed a little bit of conditioning to really hit the targets quoted and reasonably expected from the device. This to me makes sense, sometimes these cells do sit for a while and need a little workup to get back to peak performance. Expect 2-4 hours of gaming when playing the classics and cut that time down significantly if you plan to move into more modern titles if you can get them running properly. Out of the box, newer titles tend to struggle, so you might need to do some research to get the drivers and dependencies setup correctly. The device comes pre-installed with a generic SD card with titles. You can easily just use these if you don't want to set anything up, or you can install a second SD card for saves and additional titles. I strongly advise cloning the included SD card so you have a working copy of the OS image on hand as intended for the device on a more reliable SD card, as the included card is not from a reputable brand. This device does not have in-built wifi, so connections and data transfers will need to be done with adapters through the USB-C data port on the bottom. The device does have two, one is intended for power, the other for data. A headphone jack is located on the bottom between the USB-C ports, which is a nice touch. The speaker, located centrally beneath the screen, is adequate though can distort at high volumes. Don't expect it to reproduce modern audio accurately, but the bit and chip tunes from older titles sound perfectly fine. ... show more
