Overall it's a great little handheld, as someone new to the retro gaming scene I'd done a fair amount of research and saw the RG351V often recommended as one of the best vertical handhelds, and after having it for a couple weeks I'm really impressed by the device. New firmware was super easy to install, and performance up to Nintendo 64 era is generally excellent. I've mostly used it for playing Pokemon ROM hacks and I've had very few software issues so far, using Amberelec for the firmware. The screen is surprisingly clear and vibrant with good brightness range. It's got a fairly comfortable grip, though the shoulder buttons can be a little awkward to use if you have bigger hands. The speaker is about what you'd expect, small and fairly tin-ey but perfectly acceptable for Gameboy games. Buttons give great feedback and feel solid without being overly clicky. The battery life isn't amazing, but depending on what you're playing you can probably squeeze out 4-5 hours of solid gameplay. Overall it's a great device, I've been playing it nonstop since I bought it and would highly recommend to anyone on the fence about it. ... show more

Feels suprisingly solid. Like not a cheap plastic toy from china. Sturdy. Screen is gorgeous. So far games work perfectly. I instantly threw away the sd cards it came with and used a 128gb samsung, and flashed arkos onto the card. This was a great upgrade to my ancient Bittboy handheld. Runs most games up to PS1 for me. I did a little tinkering and loaded AmberElec firmware. Changed out the buttons and gave it a little custom sticker on the back. Also swapped out the battery for a more reliable one. None of that stuff needed to be done, you can run it out of the box no issues. Only thing I recommend is upgrading your SD Cards in the device. They use knockoff cards that will eventually corrupt themselves. ... show more

Like the title states this is a cool handheld for retro game enthusiast. You will have to be a little tech savvy to use it and to take full advantage of what this thing is capable of but there are a ton of websites, videos, and forums teaching the INS and OUTS of this device to help you figure it out. If I was basing this entirely on being able to play retro games it would easily be a 5 Star review but I did have to return my first RG351V because the screen was too bright as if the setting was turned all the way up. I'm guessing it was defective because the replacement is fine and looks great. Also another hiccup I had is if i plug it in to charge while the device is off and then unplug it when charged while it is still off, it won't turn on. I have to keep it plugged while attempting to turn it back on and it will work then I can unplug it and it'll be fine. I really don't have a clue why it does this. As far as playing games go, it does it really well. The games look good, sound good, and play great. However the RG351V does struggle a little with the newer more graphic intensive games. Also the UI on this device can be a little confusing at first but as I stated before there are tons of resources online to help you figure it out. There are even ways to customize the UI and make it a little more user friendly if you want. The buttons and triggers feel nice when using and the battery life is pretty good. I honestly wouldn't recommend this device to just anybody. From what I read online, quality control isn't too great for these devices and there's a good chance you'll get a dud when ordering. It's also recommended you switch out the SD cards it comes with to better quality SD cards. As the cheap ones it comes with are prone to failure. I did some research before ordering and I recommend you do too if you are interested. To me it's worth the hassle to play some old games from my childhood without spending a fortune but that might not be the case for you. ... show more

Out of the box it worked fine, if you're okay with using the stock os, micro sd cards, and roms which I am not. However as I tried to install AmberElec I discovered an off center white screen. Rendering the device useless. Evidently this is due to an updated screen on some new rg351v's which the firmware doesn't recognize. All of this is really unfortunate because I love this design. It feels spectacular in hand but until say Anbernic or AmberElec figure this out, I warn against purchasing this device if it's a more recent model but unfortunately there's no way to know until you have it in hand and try installing the os yourself. ... show more

That is right. If you are a kid of the 90's and you were a hard core video-game player this is the right stuff for you. Imagine putting and emulator of all the consoles of your childhood in a single little package exactly with the shape of an old Gameboy. Isn't that cool or what ?!?!?!?!

I love the build quality. It's a solid device, well built, and the hardware not only is intuitive but feels great in the hands. The OS however is a big issue, even when installing the same stock OS again or installing a custom OS. A white screen would appear, and took me several tries to fix before I was able to do so. The device would not acknowledge any game ROMs whatsoever. The device itself has potential, but needs some work, or maybe I was just sent a faulty machine.
