  • Pretty good... And...
These are pretty good. Comfortable Easy to use Baofeng Can switch to arc rail adapters. Ambient sounds are really outstanding! I can hear the washing machine through the floor!! And... Noise damper is suuuuuuper sensitive! I snapped my fingers and it dampened it. These may even cancel sound when moving through brush. I will update. UPDATE!!! 3/25/2024 I used these at a MILSIM and they performed very well but at one point they shut off by themselves. They still worked with the radio but electronic dampening and ambient sound detection was out. I thought the rechargeable batteries were dead since it was an all day event but I pressed the On buttons and they turned back on for the rest of the meet. Then, I took them to the range and these didn't disappoint. Yeah, these are pretty good. ... show more

  • Nice Headset
They work well with my AR-5RM radio, The environmental amplification is great also along with the noise reduction. I would recommend them.

  • For the money, a pretty good value but has some limitations. For the money, a pretty good value but has some limitations.
Overall, for the money, I give it 4 stars. For the casual user or for around equipment, in vehicles, or in the woods, it will work fine. For more serious work, the user will eventually encounter some fail points. Top to bottom: The headband is of the normal, pleather type material covering over a somewhat stiff plastic band; overall is comfortable. I have worn more comfortable but it wouldn't bother me to wear this most of the day. The wiring is solid/thick and feels of decent quality, the rubber texture is pliable and moves freely, not brittle. The metal frame holding the ear cups to the headband have a fair degree of tension - they aren't going to move on you but they take care to ensure both sides move at the same time so you don't bend or break anything. The ear cups have some gaps around the edges and pulling at them you can see some of the blue that holds the cups to the earpiece/speaker system. Not a big deal, but this, along with the battery compartment, make this really not even water resistant - water will work itself in if you're exposed to the elements. The pleather ear covers are soft and supple. They appear to imitate gel cups and do a fair job at that. I would say they are more comfortable than the stock Walker Razor cups but not as nice as real gel cups. The shell of the speaker cups is on the cheap side and looks like a high end headset but feels 'cheaper' - you can detect the cheapness of the plastic compared to other ear pro manufacturers. This characteristic lends to the fact that the ear cups by themselves are not as sound proof as may be expected. I turned on music and used my Walker Razors with no electronic ear pro and compared to this Retivis headset with no electronics and there was a marked difference in sound coming through. The Walkers were very quiet compared to this Retivis headset and I could hear much more noise through the Retivis. As such, I plan to use foam ear plugs to ensure I don't have any hearing loss issues when using for range work. Equipment or vehicle operations may not require the plugs. Please test this before you use them around firearms and err on the side of plugs first. The mic boom is flexible but stays put. It picks up sounds very well and I had to adjust distance to ensure I wasn't over-modulating. The mic on the boom and the mics on the ear cups are both covered in foam that will likely wear out with regular use or rubbing against helmet/equipment/rifle/the headset frame itself. However, they are probably easily replaceable. I will say that the foam is thicker than expected and better than other ear pro I have used. NOTE TO LEFTIES - the mic is not adjustable to the right ear. That is, this headset favors the righties such that cheek weld on the right cheek is unencumbered by the mic boom which is on the left side. It would take a lot of modification to make it work for a lefty but I suppose it could be done. I can't imagine it would be pretty. Having said that, I sighted a rifle on the left and the boom just moved up in my vision and didn't get in the way per se. It can be rotated up out of the way when not in use, so depending on how much you really want to have a mic available whilst shooting a rifle will determine whether this is a big deal or not. Probably the weakest link of this headset is the battery compartments. They have basic metal tabs to hold the positive and negative ends of the battery and that's all that holds them in without the cover - basic tension. The cover has a cheap rubber gasket that will let water in despite the ribbed gasket. It is also held in by tension only. I think it would take a major trauma to the head to dislodge the covers, but I could also see a tree branch wedging them out and then the battery could easily fall out on the next jar or jump. I just don't trust the battery compartment system. That leads into the use of the batteries - they are for the electronic noise cancellation system and the ambient noise amplification. First - noise cancellation is ok, not great, but ok. I can tell the processor struggles to keep the balance between the ears and you can sense/hear a dead spot at times. This is just an inferior electronic system at work - but you aren't paying for that so keep that in mind. The noise amplification is really good - I had no issues hearing someone talk across the room really well. As indicated, you do not need the batteries or need to have the headset "on" to hear or transmit to the radio. The headset works as a basic mic/ear without it turned on or powered up. I like this feature. The volume buttons held together turn on and off the electronic amplification and of course adjust volume. Both buttons are easy to find and use with one hand. They are below the ear cup and not likely to get bumped or hit. Exception to this may be for a left handed shooter with a left cheek weld to a rifle stock. The stock by itself probably wouldn't do it but a sling or sling attachment or a stock magazine holder, etc. may bump the buttons. The headset has a large plug that connects to the PTT adapter. There is about a 1mm gap between the plug end and the PTT adapter. Again, this lends to the fact that the headset is not water resistant, let alone waterproof. The PTT adapter feels solid, good quality and the alligator clip is strong and has good grip with the rubber on the teeth. It doesn't want to move. The PTT adapter terminates to a "Kenwood 1" plug which fits any Baofeng or TYT type radio. Solid connection and PTT button works well. I had very good signal in and out of the headset testing it on a Baofeng radio. Weather radio signals came in great and signal out was received by an assistant 5x5. In digital mode, there was a follow up clicking in the headset that I wasn't able to isolate. This is only present with noise cancellation active and the headset turned on. Look, for the money, it's a nice piece of kit in a light use or non lethal environment. I wouldn't rely on it for serious use, especially given the lack of water resistance and points of dust entry. 4 stars for the value/price ratio and overall effectiveness. ... show more

  • Just what I was looking for.
I wanted to be able to be on my radio and not disturb my wife listening to her audio book and this is perfect. I can hear the faintest signals at loud volume and nobody hears a thing. If someone talks to me the amplifier helps me hear them like a hearing aid. So far I haven't been able to make any contacts with my radio so I think I'm too far away from my repeater. I can't attest to the microphone sound quality yet. Huge upgrade for the walkie talkie. ... show more

  • Nice headsets
Voices are a bit tinny, but very clear and easy to understand. Mics pick up well, and gel cup ear pieces are very comfortable - they also double as shooting muffs with excellent db reduction. Only downside is - as with any over the ear muff - kinda hot to wear in the summer.

  • Too much amplification, not enough ear protection
Initial build quality looks solid and fit and finish overall were good. Basically, these are a Chicom version of the real deal 3M Comtacs. Within the first 2 minutes of testing I knew they weren't going to work. They amplify ambient sound, which is something most quality ear pro can do, but the implementation here is far too aggressive. Even on the lowest setting it is much louder than it needs to be. Fan or wind noise is amplified so much it drowns out everything. The communications portion works just fine, but you're fighting the amplification to hear. Then there is the passive noise protection. I searched for an exact decibel rating, but it is nowhere to be found. Some comments put it in the 21-23db range. There is absolutely no way. With the headset turned off there is almost no sound protection like normal ear pro would have. ABSOLUTELY do not trust these to protect your hearing when shooting. It is good to see a sub-$500 option, but this needs some work before it can be trusted as a product. Look forward to a version 2 of this. Would be absolutely usable for Airsoft or similar mil-sim, but not real firearms use. ... show more

  • Delayed dampening and amplification
The noise dampening and amplification is pretty awful. The audio amplification has like a 1 second delay, so you'll hear the real sound, then the louder amplified sound. Of course the dampening has the same issue, so for that purpose you basically have expensive ear muffs that don't work nearly as well. The radio portion of the headset works fine, but $30 more you can find headsets that don't have the delay issue and thus work as intended. Update: great support. They replaced the unit and it works wonderfully ... show more

  • Fit well!
Used the other day at the range with 9mm .223/5.56 with a blast can Muzzle brakes and flash hiders. Worked really well the seal was great. Loved it. Haven't gotten to test the microphone yet though but what I did do on my radio to myself was great.
