I feel much better having one of these in my kitchen. You need specific extinguishers for different kinds of fires, but these blankets work for any fire that is oxidized by the air (e.g., not Li-ion fires). In the kitchen, in particular, spraying a fire extinguisher can cause a grease fire to spread, if not done correctly. On the other hand, throwing the blanket over a fire requires no thought. I love the packaging. I got a two-pack. Inside the box, there are two separate red bags containing fire blankets. They are designed very well. There is a grommet at one end that you hang the bag from. I use a magnetic hook on the side of my fridge opposite the stove (so there won't be flames where the blanket is - wouldn't it be ironic to not be able to reach your fire extinguishing gear through the fire?). The bottom of the bag is closed with velcro, and a strap hangs out that you grab and yank - out comes the blanket! There is no delay removing the fire blanket from its bag, which be the difference between saving your home or not. Overall, these fire blankets are a little pricey, but they do not go bad over time or require recharging, which is a significant plus. I think they are well worth the investment. First, I have not actually used this on a fire, so I can’t comment on how good of a job it does on a fire. It is for emergencies, so I am not actually going to try it on a real fire if I do not have to. However, here are some things that I have noticed and like. First, I like how this comes in a cloth bag, so it keeps the blanket contained. The bag has a grommet on the top so you can hang it on a hook. There are straps on the bottom that you can pull to immediately remove the blanket if you need to. Alternatively, you can just open the velcro and take out the blanket, but the pull technique is faster. The velcro is not hard to open, which is great and practical. The blanket easily folds and unfolds. To me, it looks like it is made out of the same stuff you would find in a soft heating element in a chemistry lab. The instructions are easy; there are only a few sentences, and they are in big font so you do not have to struggle if there is a fire. No reading glasses necessary. I got a four pack of these so I can have them in different places…basement, garage, kitchen, and camp fire stuff. Like I said, I have not actually tested its ability to put out a fire, but these are the features that I like. ... show more

So this is basically a sheet of fiberglass, which is fire resistant. So it should work when putting over a fire to cut off the oxygen that will feed the fire. Just FYI since it is fiberglass, even though it's made for handling in an emergency there's still fiberglass fibers that can come off when touched. I took one out to inspect it and parts of my hands became slightly itchy. I definitely recommend practicing using this but use some gloves. These fire blankets are a great tool to have in the tool box but it's not an all-in-one use. Have it for small fires but in certain situations a fire extinguisher might still be a better option. So don't fall into a false sense of security if you only have this around. These fire blankets are great for travel, camping, or just limited spaces in general because they're compact and lightweight. Just know when, where, and how to use them. Overall I'm very happy with the quality of these fire blankets and highly recommend having around. ... show more

I did not test these blankets by quenching an actual fire, so I'm trusting the manufacturer that they actually serve their intended purpose in that regard. The material does look and feel like that of other fire blankets I have used before. This 4-pack of 40" x 40" (or 39" x 39" according to the red envelope) lightweight fire blankets is well constructed and includes "emergency red & white" envelopes for storage, with operating instructions on the reverse. Each blanket includes two black pull-straps to quickly remove the blanket from its storage envelope for use. The straps are long enough to get a good grip by hand, but not long enough to tie around your neck to use the blanket as a protective overgarment while escaping the fire. There is also no provision for attaching the straps together other than tying them. Other than that, the blankets seem to be of good design and quality for accomplishing their intended purpose. We had a house fire a few years ago where we tried to snuff it out early enough with a regular blanket. Had we had an actual fiberglass fire blanket, it may have succeeded instead of burning out part of the house. I got the 4 pack so I have one in the car and throughout the house. Many people say this won't replace the usefulness of a fire extinguisher, and it won't, but for small fires you want to quickly get under control, this is a great option to have. It stores well, and it doesn't expire or need servicing like a fire extinguisher would. As someone who's experienced a house fire, I feel better having these around. ... show more

I haven’t had a chance to use this and hopefully never will but these are such an essential to keep in your house. You hope and pray you never need it but its is definitely a must have, just in case. Better to have it and never use it than to need it and not have it!

These fire blankets are made of double layered fiberglass with an inner film shield. Once blanket is hung up, all you do is grab the straps and yank it out of its protective cover, and then open and toss over an uncontrolled fire. Only works for smaller somewhat containef fires such as a pan fire on the stove. Always good to have a backup extinguisher handy as well. This will likely be all you need, but a secondary method sure won't hurt. Sold in multiple quantities, is lightweight and cheap insurance. ... show more
