I keep chickens, and the flies in the summer can be overwhelming. I was hesitant to get anything like this because many report that the smell is vile. These bags are not only highly effective, the smell isn't that bad. I might get a whiff of it occasionally, and it stinks, but it's not like it reeks from yards away. Upsides: This kills an absolutely horrifying amount of flies. I bought it because I kept getting flies in my house, or noticing flies landing on my siding. No more. But also, it fills with flies at an alarming rate. It kills so many flies, very effective. It doesn't seem to kill anything other than flies and hornets. I've never seen any kind of bee in there. Horseflies, bottle flies, little flies. It's easy to install and throw out, which is good, because... Downsides: It smells. It is in fact a fly trap, though, so I didn't deduct a star over it. They like rotten stuff, and as the flies die they are themselves rotten. It also makes buzzing sounds constantly from all the flies waiting to die inside. It attracts bald faced hornets. Sometimes they get inside and die, which is great, but when they're just hanging around nearby I find that a little scary as they can be aggressive.

I did not expect this fly catcher to work that well! Within hours there were SO MANY flies in it! It is pretty smelly but that was to be expected. Super effective, not reusable though. Buying more!

Works as advertised very well, so I give it 5 starts. In my case though it unfortunately didn't do what I was hoping it would. I have a lot of deer flies on my property so I was hoping it would help with that. Unfortunately not a single deer fly seems to fall into the trap. That being said it does certainly catch regular flies.

We've had an influx of flies lately and they are so nasty - zipping around your head, biting. We've never had them like this so I bought these after reading a review that was not on amazon. They really work. The 1st day, after about 8 hours, there were around 100 flies in the trap. Every day, it increases so that there is a very thick layer of black if you care enough to look. And yet, after a week, the flies keep coming. I've put the 2nd one in several locations near the 1st, but it hasn't attracted nearly as many. I guess they just like our front door because that's where I've had to hang the one. Still not comfortable going in/out of that door, as I'll spend the next 2 days chasing flies in the house. You need to watch this container - READ THE DIRECTIONS carefully when you cut a circle out of the top. The bag gets very heavy as you fill it with water to activate the solution inside, and the hole is the only thing holding the whole apparatus open. I keep wondering whether the weight from the solution/water + all the flies will be too heavy and come crashing down. I have it hanging from wire but have my doubts. Also, the odor is very strong the 1st day or so as it takes the water that long to activate the solution. So, be aware if you have allergies or asthma, as we do, that it can aggravate those conditions. It isn't a pesticide-type odor but it's not citronella, either. I'd definitely consider where you have to use it and if it's worth the health trade-offs. The smell does dissipate a little after the 1st day or so, especially since it's outside, but we tried putting one in our attached garage, and it was too strong for us. It needs replacing every month or sooner if it dries out. With the very hot weather it's possible that might happen but I'm not sure I want to dive into the swarms of flies it's still attracting in order to see if it's dry or not. I wish it had a sturdy hanger rather than leaving it up to the buyer to figure something out. Overall, it's been successful. I'm glad we had it as an option, but whether it will hold up or not remains to be seen.

These fly traps work great. We followed the instructions on the product and chose a place to hang them in the backyard. The smell emanating from them is very attractive to the flies. In no time at all, the flies were finding their way into the trap and buzzing around searching for an escape or falling into the water. They’re not kidding when they say it can trap up to 20,000 flies. My backyard is far more pleasant to enjoy with the reduction in flying pests. I ordered two more traps and strategically placed them in the yard.

The product works great and I need to learn how to read. Every fly in the state decided to come check this out. You really really really do not want this closer than it says (20 ft) from living spaces and DO NOT LET THIS FALL DOWN. When I realized my mistake of it being to close, I moved it. Sadly I didn't realize the sheppard hook was not all the way in the ground so it fell. A plethora of dead flies on my fake but nice patio grass (no seriously, it's pretty lush) and what I can only explain as the stench of rotten eggs filled the air and was now a part of my life. I sqeaked in horror then picked it up but it slipped and fell again. This time it splashed. On. Me. While gagging I got it situated hanging up again while my pups were snuffling the dead sky raisins like it was mana from heaven. More gagging. Cleaned off my shoes and the rest of me then filled up the water that had been lost. I got the 2 pack big bag so it's a lot. Showered and I still shudder with the memory. I immediately checked and the good news... this is non toxic to the pups. They were fine. I'm still a little traumatized. Moral of this review... don't let it fall... don't put it too close to your living space... it smells horrible and the flies love it. They will come from all over. Even diluted there is a good 4 inches of flies in the bag. In case you've made it this far and are curious, straight white vinegar on the fake but lush grass helped with the smell. I let it sit out there for 20 min then soaked the area with the hose. Product was easy to put together and works. It does attract so there will be more flies than you had in the area originally. Do not do what I did. You will learn a hard lesson and have sad gagging face.
