    • Good, but challenging, engine build that actually works
This is my third motor build, but I have a over 20 other builds by Reobrix. The V8 Engine Model Kit is definitely one of the more challenging. The set comes in a very nice, giftable box with images of the model on the outside. Inside are numbered bags of bricks and manual. The bricks are all Lego compatible but don't snap together as easily, especially the pins in some cases. The manual, for the most part, is easy to follow but there were a few spots where I had to look a bit closer to make sure I got an assembly put in the right place on the main body. One reviewer dinged the set for not being made of metal. This is a BRICK set that is made of plastic bricks and, while it does work like a real engine, it's still just a STEM model for educational purposes or display. For the most part, the bricks aren't that hard to get together (I have had some from this brand that have). However, due to the complexity of an engine, and the company's attempt to make it somewhat realistic, this is definitely a challenging build. The age range states "teens and adults" and I think that it's pretty accurate. I would probably say 14 is the youngest I would go without adult assistance. The model is marketed as a STEM kit and, for anyone interested in how the insides of an engine work, this is a pretty educational build. While it isn't exact, the amount of detail that Reobrix has put into the set is impressive. I had a lot of fun putting this set together. The finished model is a very cool looking display piece. Yes, it is a working model and, if you have a gearhead in your life, it will be a great plaything. I built it for display though I did test it to make sure it worked. The engine will move in forward or reverse and looks and sounds great. Things (mostly) turned well but I do have a bit of the chain catching on one link when it goes around to the same spot each rotation. I also question how long the model would last if run for long periods of time. It's still a plastic model and the base is just four round pieces on the end of the legs. If you're going to be running it, you might want to jury rig something and stick it to a base plate for more stability. At only $60 (on sale for $54 at the time of this review), I think it is a great buy. It's a sleek looking display piece, it runs just like a real engine and it definitely gives you the feel of working on a car! ... show more

Did not meet my expectations at all. I was very disappointed. I bought it for my mechanic husband. The engine was so cheaply made with plastic not metal parts.

    • Fun and Challenging V8 Engine Build for Teens
My teenage son really enjoyed building this V8 engine model kit. He has built many Lego-style sets before, and this is actually his third Reobrix set. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, but the build is still challenging and engaging since you’re assembling the engine from the inside out. The moving engine components make it more interesting than a typical display model, and it’s a fun hands-on way to learn about how an engine works. The pieces fit together well, and completing the build gives a real sense of accomplishment.
