Top Amazon Reviews

  • Unbeatable price/performance ratio
Update April 11, 2013: Because Amazon support partially resolved the long-standing issue preventing me from using my Renogy purchase, through no fault of Renogy. I am now able to give an accurate review of the panels performance. ---English--- I now own three of these solar modules with two more as a kit with a solar charge controller on the way. Both technical support and the quality of the items themselves are simply awesome! You're just not going to find solar panels of this quality at this price anywhere else. I own several brands with higher nominal capacities if I could trade them all for Renogy panels, I would. ---March, Unable to use/review through no fault of Renogy: I purchased two of these solar panels to add more charging current to my Existing 550 W array after I purchased a 200Ah battery on Amazon and the seller/manufacture of the batteries (not this seller) in question told me that I wasn't charging the battery enough,so I bought the product. After increasing the charging power from 550w to 750w, The 200 amp hour battery still doesn't produce 200 amp hours at the 20 hr rate. So Amazon sent a 12ah deep cycle motorcycle battery by Odyssey. Because the seller will not ship me the correct battery before I send back the Switcheroo he pulled. I know 12Ah only runs the LED lights at night. But during the day I can use whatever amount of current the panels are currently providing and I have a small buffer before any change in that means I have to change the load which is better than having absolutely no power at all. Unfortunately however I can't gauge how these panels themselves are adding to my array, The fact of the matter is until the rest of my order is sorted, the array will be incomplete and so I have to give it a neutral rating it will be edited once I can pair it with the size battery I purchased. In the interest of other people assembling solar arrays or servicing them, The reply that I got from one of the Escalated CSR agents at Amazon On Friday, March 15, 2013: "I don't mean to sound cold, but you chose to live off of batteries. That's not Bluegrass Wholesale's problem, and that's not Amazon's problem." Customer centric? Earth friendly? It sure doesn't feel that way! There's nothing wrong with living off solar and batteries, there is something wrong with cheating a customer and doing absolutely nothing proactively to make it right, at least one of the CSR agents was able to provide a 12 amp hour motorcycle battery so that I wouldn't be in pitch black darkness. Hopefully, Amazon will correct the issue so that I can provide a review on the performance of this panel. ... show more

  • Excellent Pv module, true 100W+ output
Edit February 2019: I have 8 of these panels now and they are all working very well. Original review below. I originally purchased the kit with one of these panels, a PWM charge controller (Renogy branded), cables and mounting hardware. I slowly built up a 12V 220AH battery bank, bought one more panel and bought 50FT of 8AWG Pv cable with MC4 connectors to run between the panels on the roof and the charge controller inside the house. I bought such a heavy gauge cable because I didn't know when I could afford to purchase an MPPT charge controller and I wanted to minimize my voltage drop (and related power generation losses). The system worked very well and I was seeing just over 200W of power generation at peak from the two panels on the roof which was expected based on what I read about these. This was in February of 2014 here in central Florida. During the year the two panels and PWM charge controller did a great job keeping the batteries topped off. The summer was exciting when the panels started having a peak output of 212W. The reviews that say these panels don't put out their rated power must be people doing something wrong or they just live far north where there may be a reduction in power generation. Fast forward to December 2014 I got a 3rd one of these panels as a present from my wife, which I installed quickly and hooked in parallel with the other two to the PWM charge controller. This turned out to be a bad idea due to the voltage drop over the 50ft run of 8AWG cable at 15+ amps. The voltage was too low to bring the batteries all the way up to full. Now in January 2015 I was able to purchase an MPPT charge controller, specifically https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PHMSN8/ MidNite Classic 150. This allowed me to rewire the 3 panels from parallel to series, greatly reducing the loss across the 50FT cable. It also allowed the batteries to get topped off even in low sun conditions. Unlike with the PWM controller, on very cloudy winter days the MPPT controller would still charge the batteries where the PWM controller would just trickle in a very small amount of power. I have two inverters hooked up to the system. One is on 24/7 and is used to power small electronics like laptops. It is a https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001539B7O/ Go Power 175W. The other inverter is a https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004OU99UE/ Samlex 2000W Pure Sine Wave which is only turned on when I need more than 140 or so watts continuously, or the modified sine wave of the Go Power isn't good enough. I plan to buy more of these panels in the future, and recommend them to anyone. You definetly want to buy the mounting kit as well https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BR3KFKE/ since it does a good job holding the panel to a flat surface while leaving just enough room for the wires and some air circulation. ... show more

  • Good panels so far
Work well and are well made. I have not had a hail storm yet but it is only a matter of time and I will update later. I get 70 watts per panel in winter and my angle is for spring/fall so it seems 70 is a minimum on a sunny day. Update: Had 2 hailstorms (one was major) and have no issues. I added three more to my bank of 9 panels and used the new SS models as the 100D I started with is no longer made. For those who have asked: Yes the panels are compatible with the older model and they use the same hardware mounts (Z brackets). I can tell no difference whatsoever between the two models in terms of performance but just a slight cosmetic difference. They are thinner and lighter than the originals. Mixing the new with the old poses no issues that I can see as the footprint and specs are about the same. I make my own mounting structure so I cannot comment on using off the shelf rack mounts and rails. My array is now rated at 900 watts and the day I installed these I got over 920 watts due to cloud fringe so they work together just fine. I use a Morningstar ProStar MPPT controller and it sweeps the mixed bank just fine and usually the VMP is between 60v and 65v for my 3x3 system which is exactly where it was for the array when it was 3x2 with the original 100D model panels. Buy these with confidence if you have the older style and want to grow your array. ... show more
