  • Essential product for a nice scalp $$$$
This is my first purchase from Rene Furterer, which is obviously an upmarket hair care brand$$$$ The product contains a concoction of essential oils that stimulate and deep cleanse the scalp to prepare a healthy bed for hair growth. You apply this on segments of your scalp PRE-shampoo weekly or once a week. It smells like citrus and sweet orange essential oil. It does NOT leave an oily residue and washes off pretty easily. You will feel that your scalp is cleaner after shampooing it out. The scent of the essential actually lingers on LONG AFTER you wash it off- which is a bonus for me but not everyone likes the strong essential oil smell. If you are sensitive to smells you might not like this ?? I would use it STILL because It makes my hair feel and look healthy. There are only two cons here - the price and availability These are however sacrifices I am willing to make for the way this makes my scalp feel clean and refreshed.I think this product is excellent for detoxing my scalp. The philosophy behind it is that without clean hair follicles, your hair strands won't grow as strong; think of it as exfoliation for your scalp, which actually makes total sense! I've seen this marketed online in very scientific terms and using a lot of adjectives like "detoxing", "purifying", "nutrients", "hair loss", with no really clear explanation, when it could basically be marketed as a scalp exfoliator that can help with many different conditions. I think that "Buy me, I basically eat and dissolve all the gunk on your scalp!" doesn't sound as cool? It treats by exfoliating the scalp to get rid of buildup with the Complexe 5 and help promote healthy scalp/follicles, then you shampoo/condition your hair as usual. bonus tip: once you apply the Complexe 5 to the scalp, you can take advantage and use a hair mask of your choice from the mid to ends of your hair at the same time. Note: It spreads pretty easily once you get the hang of the bottle. Make sure to massage it into the scalp for at least 5-10 minutes to promote better circulation and don't worry too much about the tingly feeling. If it starts to burn, then WASH IT OFF, these are high concentrations of essential oils and your skin may be sensitive to them. This treats buildup that can form from natural oils, dead skin cells, dry scalp, dandruff, silicone and other ingredients. It's supposed to "strengthen" the scalp by putting the essential oils in the Complexe 5 to work at basically dissolving the buildup on your scalp. I think it works well in combination with all shampoos but mainly with sulfate-free shampoos since they lack harsher cleansing detergents. Which is why a lot of times I need to use a harsh clarifying shampoo once month. With this product I can use my sulfate free shampoo and not have to use the harsher shampoo. ... show more

  • Pricey but worth it (so far)
Style: Pre-Shampoo Detox
I just received this product and have only used it once, but some reviews that helped me decide to purchase addressed specific topics so I wanted to share my experience. If in the coming weeks something new crops up I will amend my review. 1. Scent: I found it to be citrus lavender as advertised, but, to me, there is a bit of a medicinal tinge underneath. It's not bad, but I can still smell it now, hours after showering and having added product to my hair. I am super sensitive to smells, but it's not too overwhelming, though at this point I only smell the medicine smell. Kind of like T-Gel, maybe? Not great, but doable. 2. Tingling/burning: I did experience mild tingling, but nowhere near the burning some reviewers described. I was never uncomfortable and it never hurt. 3. Ease of use: at first I didn't know if it was coming out, but as I went I could smell it and knew it was. The directions say to start at the base of your neck and work your way up in a circular motion, which is awkward. Also, I have wavy hair so it kept snarling and tangling. I decided to just spramp it on and worry about circular motions during the massage portion. Overall: I included photos to show the bottle, because it's quite smaller than I expected. The lines on the back are meant to show amount you should use each time, which is handy. The picture of my arm shows two drops of oil. It is quite light and sheer and disperses quickly. Pic of my hair for reference (color treated, wavy, air dried and unbrushed). I also ordered the thin hair shampoo and conditioner recommended by the company to get a whole system result. After one treatment I obviously don't see a difference in hair thickness, but my scalp noticeably feels cleaner than before. I'll definitely keep it up and do (currently) consider it money well spent. ... show more
