  • Nice relic, great neck!
Color: Jasper Green
The guitar body looks great considering the cost it’s a great value. The roasted maple neck is also amazing with its stainless frets. The neck pocket was so perfectly snug, tight and aligned with the neck there was no need to shift or shim it. The cylinder truss adjust at the body end makes it quick and easy to set relief, no worries about stripping out a hex wrench nut. I work on a lot of affordable guitars and the fret leveling on this was basically perfect, I did some polishing but the action is low and it feels awesome. The pick guard was colliding with the bridge plate and the guard was actually prohibiting the trem from moving properly. The included trem has a small block and cast saddles, so I bought the $18.00 Guyker large block, bent steel saddle trem set from Amazon to replace it which was the only added expense to the guitar …and of course a new set of strings. I trimmed the guard clearance so the trem could move freely. Then I cut the headstock just for fun into a slightly shrunken *F* style shape and had an old damaged decal laying around so I stuck that on. There’s no tint on the roasted maple so using a clear finish blended everything right back together. Then relic’d the hardware, plastic and headstock to better match the body which comes with shiny new hardware and parts. All in all after a few mods it’s one of the best Strats I’ve owned. Pickups are ceramic single coils but are wax potted, non microphonic and true to the sound of a classic Stratocaster I won’t be changing them. The tuners feel and function great, no complaints there. The nut was actually bone which has an obvious scent while filing the slots. The trem now works perfectly in a floating setup and stays in tune. Probably could have done that with the original one, but I like the bent steel big block better for the looks and functionality of this instrument. I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. I saw a demo by Roger on YouTube Musicnerdstuff and that sold me on the potential of these guitars. Love it! ... show more

  • Surprisingly great!
Color: Jasper Green
I was pleasantly surprised at this guitar. It lives alongside some very high-end and vintage guitars (Gibson custom shop 355, 1962 SG Jr., as well as other vintage telecasters and les pauls.) The one hole in my toolbox was a strat. I bought this purely as an experiment to see if it would be a good mod platform and I can see real potential in this guitar. Upon arrival, my first order of business was to completely take it apart. I found no shims under the neck, all of the joints are very tight and fit well. I was pleased to find actual wood - looks to be mahogany, a real rosewood fretboard and a very nicely done maple neck, supposedly roasted. The neck is fairly chunky - it reminds me of the necks on the EVH guitars. The fretwork was as good as any other guitar I've seen. The guitar is light, which is a nice break from the Gibsons I own. The setup felt like a guitar that had been languishing on a Guitar Center wall for a couple of years, being subjected to non-dominant handed renditions SRV and Dire Straits solos. The tuning machines aren't terrible and they seem to hold ok, though there is some inconsistency in the feel of them. The tremolo is about as puny and cheap as it gets, but it does the job. The block is very thin and I don't know how well it stays in tune. I typically block them all off and play them as hardtails anyway. The pickups were very strat in nature. I could actually be quite happy with the neck and middle, however the bridge is a little harsh for me. A quick roll of the tone knob and it warms up. The relic job is better than I've seen on Fenders at three times the cost. I scraped a bit of the green paint away and did in fact find sunburst finish beneath - which I appreciated. They could've just faked the green over sunburst finish. My one gripe is the nut. The high E has strange overtones as does the G - as if the slots are not cut straight. My plan is to replace the nut, upgrade at least the bridge pickup, pots and switch, the bridge and the tuning machines - then this will really be a solid working guitar that I don't have to worry about being damaged - still coming in well under the cost of even a mexican-made Fender. Also, KGD was nice enough to put "electric guitar" right on the headstock so as to avoid any potential confusion from Basoon players out there. ... show more

  • Impressive for the price
Color: Jasper Green
Quite impressed with overall quality. Totally usable out of the box. After about a month of daily use... The tuners are true gems, very micro, I was not expecting that. Would love to know the brand for other guitars. Frets were clean, required no attention. Fretboard had a weird top coating on it, I removed that carefully and resealed. Neck was straight, C-shape and comfortable. I like the neck alot as well. Had a little slag in the pocket, no biggie. The finish is not a laminate, they put some time into it. The body is very light. Some may not like this but I do. No head dive or weird weight issues. Pickups are playable but low output, like a Squire. I swapped them for a set of Ventera 50's and sounds amazing. Electronics work as expected, 250k pots but works just fine as is no plans to change anything else. First I ran some 9's but it feels and sounds best with 10's. Trem looks thin, but bridge seems solid. Intonated just fine. I have alot of guitars, old and new, inexpensive and pricey. This was to be a project/display guitar, but will now be the daily driver for this summer. ... show more

  • Lots of mojo for the money
Color: Sunburst
Shockingly good guitar for the money. A new set of strings and a little silicone in the nut grooves and it plays great. Even the intonation was excellent. Sounds great, played it live a day after it arrived. Maybe it's the relic finish, but it feels like it's already worn in.

  • Impressive body, time will tell.
Color: Jasper Green
This is an initial review. I will update as time goes on. The most important thing is the guitar came to me not broken and the electronics working. They do. The knobs are slightly off (1 is 0 and ‘12’ is 10) but I can change that. Stunning finish. Totally in awesome. I was torn between red and this. I may still grab a red one. ... show more

  • Not bad at all for the price
Color: Jasper Green
Best relic job I've seen...wasn't too crazy for the sound of the pickups Neck was real nice. To upgrade pups and tuners was too costly for me and then you still have a KGD Amazon guitar.
