Typically, I'm too busy to take the time to write a review for stuff, but I enjoy this keyboard so much that I had to leave a review! I've owned so many keyboards over the past 30 years, but this one is THE BEST I've had. Other keyboards that got close to this one were literally five times the cost of this keyboard. What I like about this keyboard the most is the brown mechanical switches. They are the perfect combination of response, tactile feeling, and low noise level. Every stroke is wonderful! I use this keyboard for professional writing. I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to have a keyboard that makes my job easier and more effecient. I spend hours a day on this rig and it's a serious upgrade from the factory model I got with my new computer. The whole keyboard is heavy and feels substantial. The quality is top notch. The back-lighted keys are wonderful. I chose the right color and pattern that I wanted and I'm very pleased with how they help me find the right keys in my dark room. I will say that the app I downloaded from the manufacturer's website did not work to set up the lighting, but I looked up how to set it up properly from the keyboard itself and that's working fine. I can't testify to how long this keyboard will last (I'm pretty rough on keyboards because I'm active) but I'll update here if I have any problems. Right now, I'm very satisfied with what I have and wanted you to know about it!

Very nice, super solid, not so loud with the brown switching. It took me a couple of hours to get used to it after so many years using membrane switch keyboards. Less than half a day later I had forgotten that it was a new keyboard. I am not a touch typist but thanks to 30+ years of muscle memory I can fake it. The spacing of the keys is great, the travel and the click action work really well to my typing style. And I can always switch to a different switch type if I need to. I have had a couple weird instances when keystrokes aren't registering but honestly these cleared before I could troubleshoot enough to blame either the keyboard or something going on with whatever app was acting out. I was also surprised that it shipped with 8 spare brown switches. I have a really bad luck with keyboards, I usually kill them after about a year and I always end breaking at least one key. It's nice to know that the key caps and switches are user replaceable and very affordable. Two microscopic nags: 1. No wrist rest area. This is not a deal breaker, and I never used that area to rest my wrist, but it was nice to use it to tilt the phone when I needed to do something like look up a 2FA code. Again, not a deal breaker. 2. The sticker with the dragon above the arrow keys throws me off, every now and then I look towards the keyboard and that empty area looks like it's missing keys, then it takes me a split second to figure out that's where the sticker sits. That's about the only two things I can find to complain about it. The price was excellent, the keyboard and a new Bluetooth mouse cost me less than I what I paid for each of the last three keyboard/mouse combos that I have purchased. My biggest mistake was that I should have bought two on the spot and give one to my son, he is in the Autistic spectrum and he loves rainbows and was blown away when he saw the customizable lights show. 90-day update: I have now recovered from three spills that would have ruined every single keyboard I have owned in at least a decade. I cannot stress enough the peace of mind that comes from being able to replace one compromised key switch instead of losing the keyboard. I also had an interesting, self-inflicted anomaly. During my last spill I accidentally hit the wrong thing and switched the keyboard to French Canadian layout. Then proceeded to waste an hour freaking out over why the switches themselves were registering properly, but some keys were off. I only got to calm down when I plugged in a spare and it started doing the same thing, which is what told me that I was troubleshooting Windows, not the keyboard. So yeah, if you want/need to clean the keyboard, unplug it first.

I am not a gamer, but I do spend a lot of time typing on my computer. I have put up with miskeying in less than ideal lighting conditions for a long time. The K556 is perfect to the task. The K556 presents an array of kinetic and multicolor options, but I like a static, subdued and monochromatic layout. This is easy to achieve via keyboard controls (see my setup below), and settings are persistent across reboots. I initially had a question about settings and contacted Redragon support, which was very responsive. The K556 is solidly constructed, the keys have a good feel and they are quiet. Now for my boring settings (“+” and “/” are not keyed). Fn+Ins Each 2-key press cycles to the next in this set of lighting modes (see the manual for other modes): Trial of Light, Breathing, Normally On (“Normally On” defaults to the color “Rainbow” – a static wash from side to side). Fn+→ (In case the ASCII glyph doesn’t render, Fn+Right Arrow) Each 2-key press cycles thru Rainbow, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Purple, Violet). My choice was “Purple”, more of a fuchsia. Fn+↑/↓ (In case the ASCII glyphs don’t render, Fn+Up Arrow or Down Arrow). Each 2-key press cycles brightness Up or Down.

Only had it for a half of a day and it's pretty amazing. My old rosewill brown switch keyboard stopped registering keystrokes so after much research I decided on this K556 board. The price is right. I'm not a casual gamer and wanted something I could also use for regular office type work. This thing seems to be great. It's like a solid chunk of metal, quite heavy. Doesn't move around at all on the desk. Never had a keyboard with this much heft. Keys seem fine, they are quieter than my old brown switches on the Rosewill Neon K85 RGB BR. But still have a clicky and satisfying press. This is my second mechanical keyboard so not an expert but it likely would be fine at a cubicle, but I wouldn't want anything more clicky sounding. The only problem so far is I connect to my Dell Thunderbolt Hub ultrawide monitor and for some reason the software doesn't recognize there's a keyboard, probably because it's not plugged directly into the PC and thinks it's just a standard USB connected device. I'm too lazy unplug it and plug it into my PC directly. And even if I could get the software working, it probably wouldn't work anyway when I ultimately move it back to the monitor anyway. If you're not a pro gamer and need something to handle both office work and casual gaming, and want a full size keyboard layout, then this is a great option. But I cannot say anything about longevity, since it's only been a half of a day. Oh, and I decided to order the Redragon P037 Meteor L wrist rest separately because there wasn't one in the box.

First off I really like this keyboard itself. It came on-time and well-packaged, complaints there. Before I say more, let me be clear I am not an avid video gamer; I mostly use my computer for 'regular' boring old stuff like emails, internet surfing, and document writing. I play the occasional video game but nothing intense that requires quick key presses. This will be important later. The keys feel great to type on, not terribly stiff but plenty of tactile feedback and I haven't experienced any sort of typing fatigue. It comes with a sample set of extra key switches so you could experiment with what you like best and I guess replace all the switches with a different type if desired. It's important to note that this keyboard comes with only one or two of each type of switch, not full sets. I like the switches included with the keyboard but the ability to swap switches may be important to some. The backlighting is plenty bright, even in daylight, and features a good range of brightness settings. The keyboard allows you to cycle through some preset colors and quite a few different lighting routines by using function keys alone. Now to the software. Unfortunately the software is pretty much unusable for a few reasons. One, all of the different lighting program names are mismatched. For example there's a setting named something like "snowfall" which lights random keys in a pattern that looks like raindrops hitting the ground, but in the software the "snowfall" name is tied to the setting that makes the keyboard cycle through a rainbow configuration of lights. Not a big deal on its own but annoying. Two, you can set up the lighting however you want within the software, but when you restart the computer the keyboard resets back to whatever settings it was on without the software. Meaning when you use the function keys on the keyboard without using the software, those settings are always preserved, but if you want to use a custom setting you've configured through the software, you'll need to open the software and select that setting every time you restart your computer. (Therefore it's easier just to use a preset within the keyboard itself and ignore the software entirely). Three, a big draw of this keyboard for gamers should be that the software has a section that allows you to set each individual key to a specific color and effect. For example you're supposed to be able to set the WASD keys to, say, blue, and maybe the number keys to yellow, and the shift and space keys to green, and so on and so forth. Unfortunately this section of the software is entirely non-functional. When prompted to select a key to program, the software doesn't allow you to do anything and clicking on keys does nothing. It's as if the developers had the idea to customize individual keys but never got around to actually including that functionality in the software. Overall, the product loses a star for really bad software, but I want to emphasize that the hardware itself is wonderful. Even without the software, for the price, this keyboard is well worth the money, so I do recommend purchasing it unless you absolutely must have the functionality of programming individual key colors.

I bought this keyboard because the one that came with my new PC had a weird problem with the space bar. I knew I wanted a mechanical keyboard eventually anyway, so after a TON of research, (learning about the dizzying array of features that modern keyboards can come with), I settled upon this keyboard from Red Dragon. I wanted a wired, full sized keyboard with backlit keys. After about two weeks of use, I'm happy to say that I made a good decision. I was also surprised with how quickly the keyboard arrived after placing the order. The keyboard feels solid and well made, but still sleek and modern looking. While it's a full sized keyboard, it doesn't take up a lot of real estate on my desk at all. It feels nice to type on, I enjoy typing and I'm pretty quick. I haven't had any problems with hitting the wrong keys or anything like that. It's also very satisfying, I like to hear the keys being pressed, so there is definitely a satisfying clicking sound, but I wouldn't say this keyboard is too loud at all. All the keys light up, there aren't any dud keys. Backlit keys were important for me, as I like to use my computer in the dark. If you like to have cool lighting effects, this keyboard has a lot of different modes, and it's easy to switch through them all. I prefer to have one solid color constantly, and I found the mode for that. You can also change the static color. I saw someone write in a review that they wanted a keyboard where you couldn't see lighting coming from underneath the keys, they just wanted the characters on the keys lit up. If that is something you are looking for, this keyboard is not for you. All the keys are raised up and there isn't any "housing" around the keys to stop the light from spilling out. This isn't a problem for me at all. Honestly, it looks pretty cool like this and it's probably a way to keep the price down. As for some reviewers mentioning a "ringing" sound similar to a chain link fence being hit, I can definitely hear what they are talking about, but it's honestly not very noticeable at all. While you're typing, you really have to be intensely listening for it to hear it at all. I brought my wife into the room to ask if she heard anything odd, and she said no. I then told her there's a ringing sound which she still couldn't hear. Then I hit the backspace and enter key harder than I normally would, and then she heard it faintly. I would never be hitting those keys that hard during normal use. She laughed and told me that it's a silly complaint and one that she would never even notice. The only drawback on this keyboard is that there are no buttons to change your computer volume, or open up a browser, etc. But for me, I've had keyboards with buttons like that in the past, and I never used them as much as I thought I would. My audio interface is always right in front of me, and it has a volume dial for that anyway.

I have only been using the Red Dragon K556 going on three days now but the seller is asking for an honest review. So far, I am very happy with the entire process. I had originally been looking for an office keyboard that had some sort of back lighting and I had gone through a couple of much cheaper options before upgrading to this one from Red Dragon. When I first opened the packaging it was shipped in, I was a little concerned due to the minimal packing materials but upon inspecting the keyboard itself, it was in perfect condition, not a dent or scratch to be found. This is the first keyboard I have used that has an aluminum casing, It is very sturdy and I like the heft of it when moving it around. It just feels like a well made piece of equipment. The keyboard stays in place on the desk and doesn't slide around. I read one reviewer who said that by sliding the keyboard on the desk, the plastic tilting tabs on the bottom tended to flip closed on one side or the other making the keyboard wobble. This, so far, has not been my experience. I am able to slide it around a bit without affecting the tilting tabs. When first plugging it in, I noticed the nice length of the USB cable. It is plenty long enough to reach my tower that sits about two feet over and one foot down and I still have a nice excess to move the keyboard around a bit. I knew before purchasing that there were many more lighting functions one the K556 but I don't think I appreciated just how many options you have with back lighting colors and patterns. There are 9 different solid color options and I have not even explored how many light pattern options there are. I can tell you that there seem to be many multi-colored options to choose from. I primarily like one solid color but it can be fun to explore all the different options when you just don't feel the work happening. All colors can be completely turned off or they can be set to any of five levels of brightness. This K556 came with brown switches which have proved to be exactly what I had been looking for previously. I didn't really know much about switch brands, such as outemu or cherry but this brown switch is much quieter than the previous blue I used. Mind you it is not silent but it doesn't make much more noise than a soft clicking. The keys are very responsive, being what I suppose is a tactile keyboard. I notice that when typing faster, I don't have to mash the keys. It's almost as if they are two stage keys where you can feel the halfway mark which is as far as I need to push to get a response. The keys spring back instantly and smoothly. I had read another review where the reviewer experiences some sort or ringing or vibrating sound (I don't remember exactly) but they thought it may have been related to the aluminum casing or something. (Again, I think I am remembering this correctly) I do not experience any other sound other that the keys making their normal soft clicking. I have not used this for gaming, hence the three stars for the gaming feature but I can't imagine it being a poor gaming keyboard. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase but again, I have only been using it for three days now. Customer service instantly emailed me to ask for a review and to assure me that they were available within 24 hours should I have any problems. Hopefully it won't come to that. All of this was to say that so far, I am very happy with this purchase am am hoping for long usage.

I have been eyeing this keyboard for a while now. I finally got it while it was around $40 during the Prime sale. I have only been using membrane keyboard and this feels, somewhat underwhelming when I first get it. I was expecting a bit more resistance but this keyboard is made to be very light and very light click. However, after using it for a while I know that I won't be able to go back to using membrane keyboard. The light pattern that came with this keyboard is quite useless. It's pretty. I especially interested in using the ripple effect one. However, when I selected it, every key is dark until I press them. Needless to say I can't use it. I ended up using the default one it came with and be happy with it. I flows RGB slowly and makes the keyboard look pretty. I like the sturdiness and weight. I think the base is made out off metal. Overall, I grew to like it. Let's hope they keys last for a very long time. UPDATE: I've been experiencing missing keystrokes. It started with the A button. I noticed it because as I type, I had to keep going back to correct a missing A in my spelling. The thing is the button still works, it's just that it misses to register once in a while. I thought I was going crazy. The good thing is that we were given several free switches and I had enough to change them out if there were defects. It started with the A button, then the Left-Shift button. But then it goes to the SPACEBAR!! I didn't change the switch yet because I don't want to turn off my computer yet. Several weeks later, I had forgotten that I had this problem. Apparently the problem fixes itself. All the buttons that I had problem with is working perfectly now. My dodges with Left-Shift was spot on. A is working. Spacebar is working. Nothing skips.
