  • Perfect with good prep
Size: 30 Inch x 64 Inch Color: White
I am renting somewhere that had zero blinds or shades on any windows so decided to outfit all windows in the house with these after trying them in a couple rooms. They are great! They are very easy to open and close and look nice. They let in just the right amount of light when closed all the way. I have had a few people comment that they look very nice compared to other less than permanent blind options they have experienced. On top of all of that the installation system was very clever and made it super easy to measure and cut. From my experience if you do not really clean your window frames they will not stick well and eventually begin falling. The window frames I cleaned thoroughly are still up with their original adhesive, but some I spent less time on I ended up using a more advanced 3M double sided tape and it has been up since. The 3M tape applied and stuck well even after one or two of them had fallen multiple times, so it can be worth just trying with the original adhesive to see if it will work for you. If you use the wider ones be careful to make sure you pull evenly on each side, if you don't you can end up with an uneven height across the blind bottom. However that is remedied by pulling more on the opposite corner. Overall, very happy with these and they have served their purpose perfectly! ... show more

  • Easy install, good quality, decent temp control, USE 3M VHB 2-SIDED TAPE
Size: 48 Inch x 64 Inch Color: White
Quality is good for the price. Note that this is the CELLULAR version which means the shade design includs cells or pockets, which seem to filter more light while also helping with temperature control and blocking more heat from entering the home. (The same company also sells a PLEATED version which appears to not offer the same function of filtering light/heat.) The pull-down/lift-up function works great, no pins or clips required. If the shade position ever becomes uneven, simply raise the shade back to the up position and then pull back down to "reset" it, as the instructions indicate. Cutting down the shade to fit the width of your window is no problem. As the instructions state, measure your window WIDTH three times (top, middle, and bottom), and use the narrowest measurement when you use the included cutting guide to cut down the shade on each side (left and right, using your width measurement as your cutting point on each side). MEASURE MULTIPLE TIMES to be certain you have the right measurement. Then firmly secure the shade to the floor, apply the plastic cutting guide (included), place the slit over the exact position indicating your window width (for instance, "42 3/4") and then use a short, sharp, smooth blade kitchen knife to saw/rock back and forth until you cut all the way through. Repeat this on the other side of the shade, at the same measurement marker on the ruler. Once you've cut down your shade to the appropriate width, hold it up inside your window frame (top, middle, and bottom) to make sure it's not too wide. (It's going to be easier to cut it down further now than after you've installed it!) Then pop in the bar-ends (included) into the cut ends to finish the base of the shade. Adhesive: THERE IS A GOOD SOLUTION to the many problems others have mentioned in the reviews for this product.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME RISKING TO INSTALL this shade using the pre-installed adhesive tape. Instead, I STRONGLY recommend searching Amazon for a 3M "VHB" 2-sided tape (usually back tape with red backing), preferably 1" width, and at least as long as the length of the shade. This should cost you about $9 or so. Order the tape at the same time as you order the shade, and don't attempt to install the shade until you have the 3M VHB heavy duty 2-sided tape (NOT SQUARES). Trust me on this from experience. Now, assuming you've purchased a roll of high quality (3M VHB heavy duty) 2-sided tape, and you've cut your shade down to side: REMOVE the backing from the adhesive tape that came pre-installed on the shade so the sticky tape is exposed. Now, unroll your 3M VHB 2-sided tape and CAREFULLY extend the tape from one edge of the shade to the other, applying it DIRECTLY onto the factory-adhesive tape, and firmly press along the whole way to make sure it's firmly attached with minimal air bubbles. (To make it even more secure, you can now blow a warm hair dryer directly onto the tape to heat up the adhesive, just for 15 seconds or so, and then press it down again firmly.) IMPORTANT: DO NOT REMOVE THE 3M VHB tape backing yet, and DO NOT install yet. Let the shade sit for 12-24 hours so the adhesive forms a super strong bond. It's better to take your time on this and ensure that it holds than regret it later! After you've let it sit for a considerable amount of time, clean the window frame / area of any dust, dirt, etc. (use alcohol if necessary), especially the area where you'll be attaching this shade, and let it THOROUGHLY dry. Finally, remove the 3M VHB 2-sided tape backing from the entire shade. (Optional: you can now use that same hair dryer technique once again, this time on the exposed adhesive, to warm it up and increase its ability to bond.) Now, very carefully press the shade in EXACTLY the position you measured from. HOLD IT IN PLACE for as long as possible, periodically shifting your hands (left and middle, middle and right, etc) so you're evenly distributing pressure, holding the shade and its adhesive against the surface to form a super-strong bond. Periodically shifting your hands, and pressing as firmly as possible, for as long as 5-10 minutes (or more!) will greatly enhance the bond, and decrease the likelihood that your shade will ever fall down unexpectedly. Good luck! ... show more

  • Some drawbacks, but has its uses (updated 6 mos later)
Size: 36 Inch x 64 Inch Color: White
6 month update: The first one, from Vine, fell off 2 months ago. The second one I bought myself fell down last week. Both were installed on freshly painted sills so I know they weren't dirty. Neither left any residue or pieces of the sticky strip on the sills. They just released, like it was too cold to stick. I do keep my office on the cool side, but my husband's office gets sun all day and he likes the warmth so it could not have been an issue there. Going back down to 3 stars (and considering 2 stars) - we're going to screw them back in, but we shouldn't have to. ------- Update about 3 weeks later - I bought a 2nd one of these on my personal account, for our other home office room, and just finished cutting it. I'm raising to 4 stars because it's just working out so well. Because it has no strings, it doesn't have the small openings that traditional blinds do. We had that issue where twice a day the sun would shine through those little holes, for about an hour each time, and be very annoying. A small but very useful aspect. Note for those having sticking issues: The surface you're going to stick them to needs to be very clean. This is standard with all products that use stickies. Windex, 409, whatever, then rub with alcohol and let dry well. The sticky on these is excellent, if the surface is clean it will work well. The good: > Clean and crisp, minimalist-looking. > No strings to deal with. > Light and easy to move up and down. > Lets lots of light in - this could go either way, depending on what you want it for. I used them in my home office, so I like the light. I recommend these for privacy and/or a little dressiness, not for darkening the room. > So far it's stayed where I put it - I'm not fond of having to put it all the way up and pull back down if I want to change the level, but hey, it's really not that much effort. > "Cutting guide" is only partially useful. Will scoot around if you're not careful, and does allow things to get a bit crooked. (see pix) > I didn't find them easily-cut at all. The actual shade material, yes, it's very easy, but the smooth plastic wasn't easy. (see pix) EDIT: Used a better knife for the 2nd one I bought and it did work much better - still a fair effort, but knife does make a difference. > There's a ruler on each end of the top that is quite helpful in measuring. (see pic) The bad: > The blind itself is a material that I feel may be problematic in some situations. If you smoke, or use these in a kitchen, I feel it will absorb smells and/or turn yellow. > It's a little on the delicate, or finicky, side. If you have pets or wild kids or such, I feel it will break easily. > That sticky tape is *sticky*. It stays up well - good while it's being used, but not so good when the shade gets stained or ripped and you need to replace it. I'd love to see this with one of the 3M removable sticky products. > I have a love/hate thing going with the cutting guide. It wobbles, so you have to be careful to keep it straight, all while seriously muscling a knife back and forth. (see pix of uneven cutting it allowed) The slot for cutting is also wider than it needs to be, which also allows variation in cut. > Cutting these yourself, you need to be very, very careful to cut the same amount from each side to keep them balanced. The instructions do not warn you of the reason for this, and it doesn't tell you which end of the cutting guide faces inward (although you can see it on the listing pix, if you think to check). All in all, I'm going with 3 stars (edit: updated to 4), because it's a decent product that I think has plenty of situations where it's useful, but there are definite issues that need to be considered. ... show more
