  • A Small Plane That Started a Big Hobby
Color: Blue
The media could not be loaded. I am a radio control hobbyist. I was mostly into RC cars and drones and purposely stayed away from RC planes fearing I would fall in love with them like my other RC vehicles. However, when I came across this P51 remote control airplane, I couldn’t resist finally giving RC planes a try. The plane is made out of foam. As a novice, I was surprised when I first discovered this. However, I later learned that this is a common feature of RC planes in the hobby, especially for beginner models. The plane is relatively small at 12 inches long. The wingspan is 14 3/4 inches, and the height from the ground to the highest point of the nose is 4 inches. It weighs 1.6 oz with the landing gear attached. It has a nice paint job, and I really like the silver, black, and blue color combination. Although the plane technically does not have operational ailerons, there is a propeller on each wing that serves the same function. If you want to turn the airplane right or left, one of the propellers on the wings will spin while the propeller on the opposite side stops spinning. Both propellers spin together to provide forward thrust. Interestingly, the big black propeller on the nose of the plane does not actually spin mechanically. Of course, it will spin as it moves through the air by force of the wind, but this is all controlled naturally and not directly from any input on the controller. There is really no rudder, at least not one that you would traditionally find on the vertical stabilizer of a plane. There is, however, an elevator at the rear of the plane. This package comes with a nice set of extra parts. There is an extra set of landing gear, two rechargeable batteries, a charging cable, and an extra pair of propellers. You want to be extra careful when handling the charging cable. Mine bent right where the metal part of the USB A port attaches to the plastic hub of the cable, and I am not sure how it happened. It was fine when I unpacked it and charged the batteries for the first time, and the next thing I knew, it was bent. Luckily, I have an extra charging cable...more on that later. So I boldly took this plane out on its maiden run alone without any prior experience flying an RC plane, which wasn’t a great idea. I was relying strictly on reading a little about RC planes, my experience flying drones, and my general RC experience. I took the plane out into a huge lot next to a warehouse. The plane took off well, but I had difficulty controlling it in 8 mph wind. It wasn’t because of the transmitter, which takes three AAA batteries that are not included. The controls actually feel pretty good. My lack of experience flying RC planes was the main issue. The plane elevated to about 40 feet before the wind began to sweep it in a southern direction and onto the top of a warehouse where I was unable to retrieve it. My initial experience flying the plane lasted less than a minute, but it felt great and already had me hooked. Within minutes, I ordered a replacement plane and drove to my local hobby store to buy a beginner model. By the end of the day, I had joined a local RC plane club, bought an RC flight simulator, and have since taken lessons and gotten much better at flying. In other words, my brief experience flying this plane inspired me to fully pick up the RC plane hobby. Overall, I really like this little plane. It is a great beginner radio control plane, especially for kids. However, I realize that I have to be careful when and where I fly it. With its small size and light weight, it is best to avoid flying it on windy days. Additionally, it should be flown in a wide open area such as a large field with plenty of room around you. An ideal setting would probably be a big indoor flying area dedicated or suited for RC planes. It comes with some nice extra parts, including two batteries, which gives this package good value. However, the charging cable seems a bit on the fragile side. Luckily, I have an extra one, but I had to buy a new plane to get it. Despite this relatively minor issue, the plane comes recommended for beginners willing to be patient and fly it under the right conditions. ... show more

Very durable plane, great for beginners. My 3yo grandson crashed it so many times I thought it would never fly again but it just kept going.

  • Beginner friendly ultra-cheap budget flyer.
Color: Blue
I have been flying RC airplanes for a number of years. Most of the aircraft in my fleet are hobby-grade flyers. This is more of a toy-grade RC airplane, and so it is from that perspective I want to share this review. The kind of person who is likely to get this airplane will have no prior RC flying experience. Included with the airplane are some spare plastic props, two batteries (with charger), landing gear, and transmitter. The batters are "1S" mini lipos and provide 5-10 minutes flying time. The charger is on the slow side. Depending on how drained the battery is, it can take quite a while to charge. The airplane works by using two small motors and small props on either side of the fuselage, mounted to the wing. The larger propeller in the front is not motorized, but it does spin as it flies through the air. It just doesn't provide any thrust. It is pretty easy to fly, with one big issue I'll mention below. Setup of the aircraft is very simple. The landing gear is press fit in to plastic holders on the bottom of the aircraft. The only challenging part is getting the battery out of the nose. It is a small opening. I used some tweezers to gently pull up on the wires to remove the battery and install a charged one. There is an on-board gyro that handles wing leveling and attitude control. This makes it a very beginner friendly flyer. My one issue with this model is the quality of the servos and the range of the transmitter. During my maiden flight, the servos were unable to push the aircraft surfaces well enough to maintain positive control of the airframe. This led to the aircraft quickly leaving the limited range of the transmitter, and there was no safety. It just kept on going. I eventually retrieved the aircraft. Flyers should be cautioned to not fly this aircraft too far or high. ... show more

  • Great RC plane for the price!
Color: Blue
Awesome little plane, especially for what it costs. It's well built, sturdy, and a good flyer. The batteries do run down somewhat quickly, so we keep several on hand when out flying.

  • RC airplane
Color: Blue
Love this air plane. Bought this for my 9 year old grandson and my 15 year old nephew. Both found it easy to fly and loved how easy it was to fly. It held up very well during all flights. For the money is good price and I would buy again

  • very cool
Color: Blue
Lightweight, and pretty fun. I'm a beginner and this was easy for me to set up. Also comes with spare parts which is super cool and nice. Seems good quality, at least for these type of things. It has to be light and not a missile that is going to kill someone for safety, which usually means they are making it out of Styrofoam. This is pretty common so don't think that they're just being cheap. Controls are responsive. Really impressed with this for the price point. Value: under $63. I think it's a good value. ... show more
