  • A great Thunderbolt 5 dock!!
I am a huge fan of Razer and have over 3 dozen of their products and counting. So, I really wanted to love this dock and love it I do! I have the other version of this dock already, the Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chroma, and they are identical except for the color and the RGB lights of the Chroma. One of the reasons I love Razer products is because of the RGB lights but I have a decent number of the their non-RGB light products including this dock as I prefer the build quality and functionality of Razer products. The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock is a powerhouse of a dock and their latest update in their Thunderbolt Dock line, having released the Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock several years ago. The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock is exactly what I needed since I switch between my personal and work laptops several times a day. All I have to do is switch out two cables and I can switch bewtween work and personal laptops quite easily. I wish all I had to do was to swap out a single USB-C cable but unfortunately, I am running three external monitors (plus the laptop screen) and I am limited to a Thunderbolt 4 port on my laptop. You can only run two monitors off of a Thunderbolt 4 connection so I have my main monitor connected via HDMI and I simply switch the USB-C and HDMI cables between the laptops. The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock can run three 4K monitors at 144Hz or a single 8K at 60Hz as long as your computer has Thunderbolt 5 connections. Speaking of connections, the Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock has some standout features and connections like the built-in M.2 SSD bay with full PCIe Gen 4 NVMe connection in the bottom of the dock and a total of 10-ports for connectivity. It comes with a decent selection of ports and comes with (4) thunderbolt 5 ports (3 downstream and 1 upstream), (2) USB-A 3.2, (1) USB-C 3.2, a 3.5mm audio jack, SD card slot, and a 1Gb ethernet port. The built-in PCIe GEN 4 NVMe M.2 SSD connection makes it super easy to add storage or to have a way to move large files easily between a work and personal laptop. I am using it for general storage and file migration between work and home. I am surprised that more docks don't come with a built in M.2 slot but think you will start to see it more often, at least I hope we do as it is a really cool feature that I like. Even being limited to the Thundezrbolt 4 speeds compared to the faster Thunderbolt 5 speeds, I am able to transfer a large multi-gig file. The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock is an amazing dock with great connectivity and a buiilt in M.2 slot. If you have a computer with a Thunderbolt 5 port then this dock is a must have! I highly recommend the Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock!! ... show more

  • A Manual Would Have Been Helpful!
I was previously using the Razer Dock Chroma because I needed way more than an average switch to keep the power running to multiple cords and USB dongles for my many devices. When I heard about the Thunderbolt dock, I was intrigued. The last time I used something this fancy was for work, but I keep my work and personal devices separate (reasonably so). I was excited to try this with my personal/gaming PC and oof, I wish the set up process didn't stress me out as much as it did. I am not the kind of person who usually needs a manual, in fact, I rarely ever use one. But the intuitiveness here was lacking, and so of course the moment I truly needed a manual, it wasn't available. That's the way she goes, right? The AC adapter plugs into the outlet, the white USB-C cable goes into your PC or laptop. Easy enough right? Except it didn't turn on. I should also note that there is no power button, no indicator light, nothing. After unplugging and replugging the AC adapter, I just hear a faint fan noise for a second, then silence. No quick tips or a setup guide in sight, I was one second away from a panic attack until my amazing Husband came in and saved the day as usual. Turns out, I had everything right, except the white USB-C cable was plugged in the wrong port. Out of 5 USB-C ports, there is only one it is supposed to be connected to, which is the first one on the right of the USB port with a Monitor and Power Adapter legend printed beneath it. Mind you, when people are usually using these switches, most do not have the ports facing them but the other way around for aesthetic purposes, but I digress. That's not exactly the most intuitive, and so a clear manual or some picture guide pointing me in the right direction would have saved so much time (and stress). That said, I do like the extra storage port and easy close and open door on the bottom of the dock for hard drives and the fact that it has more ports than the Chroma dock to work with. There are about two USB ports, and 4 extra USB-C ports. It is just a matter of working around the dongle/cable compatibility. Thankfully, there are USB to USB-C adapters (and vice versa) that exist. Once it's running, it works beautifully! ... show more
